TWL-All Star Game

hey i thought of this idea with Grin tonight and i wanted to see what you guys think...

i was going to get a TWL All Star Game going where the top clans choose their best players to go and just have a good time with the best of the best, how many of you guys are interested...

i personally think this game should be hosted on a server in Texas so all players can have some decent pings...

i think all the clans in the Top ten in TDM 6man are all good clans, and also other clans like GP, and DoH who just play OBJ, mainly the clans that people actually know about...lol

Gotcha. Don't know what you have in mind but you could do like a east and west coast format. Have players from the west/south on one team and east/midwest on another. Just an idea.

yeah thats a good idea, we just need clans who want to compete in this.

You should probably e-mail all the team founders and get them to see what they think.

Representing East side

ASMD has a nice dedicated P4 2.4GHz server located at The Planet in Dallas, TX. We have members as far as NY and Portland, Oregon all with <100 ping.

If I know about this at least 2 weeks in advance, I would be happy to donate it to the event. (To prevent bumping into any scheduled matches)

GP has a 20 man sitting in dallas as well.

as far as the east/west thing... would that mean splitting up teams. like we have some players in texas (Which would be west), so would we be splitting them up? that would be kinda cool. i j ust watched the X-Games, and they did a E vs W for surfing (East won, btw). it was a spiffy format. i'd say the mississippi river would be the dividing line. for those in canada, they can just kinda continue the river up north, in pretend land, and figure which side they'd be on.

would we want a real, match-like format, or just a round robin and have everyone come in?

i wouldn't mind doing it like a round robin. password the setver off, and anyone who wants to play, can (up to 20 ppl) and then maybe like the next day, have a best of the best. 10v10, or whatever (maybe some OCs just for the heck of it) and have that done match-style. kind of like the home run derby, and then the main event the next day. i would say that we should nominate 1 person (2 max) from each "highly esteemed" clan, and then have a discussion on all players and who we'd like to see playing. these numbers will give us an idea of what format (we want everyone we pick to play, right?).

I like the idea, but why not do something like a all star tdm ladder vs obj ladder. Get the top 5 teams from each ladder and have, either those teams or a ladder wide vote, pick the top two players from each team to play. If one of those people can't make if from that team, an alt is picked from the same team. The match mabey consist of two maps from tdm [total kills wins that round] and two from obj [total rounds won] What do you think?

o, if one team is in the top 5 of each ladder, they get to pick what side they want to represent, and you just pick up the next lower ranked team to participate.

I like the idea. But, I think we should have an OBJ and TDM all star game seperate. Just because there are some teams that are only on one of the ladders.

I like the Obj idea also. I think we should focus though on one event first. We need to first start by putting the clans down that are going to participate. I would like to have TxR represented.

oh yeah, i was just assuming it was OBJ, i forgot some ppl play that TDM thingy ma bobber.

seriously though, as much fun as i had last night playing w/ hobbes and longshot in the LVPS TDM server, it's not fun for me in match play. but an "all-star" game hopefully would NOT revert to camping. so i might not mind playing both. it'd be the same for TDM only clans to play OBJ. i wouldn't mind seeing all teams playing both gametypes. it's just for kicks anyways, right?

maybe have one day of TDM and one day of OBJ, but include all the clans in both TDM and OBJ top whatever. but, maybe not. who knows. i'd like to play against some D12C and LVPS in OBJ. so i wouldnt' want to completely segregate it all.

Do not forget about ol' w00t who play obj rb and tdm 2v2 Realism .

the server will most likly be either UNO's, GP's, or TyS's, cause if it is west coast vs east coast we need to give the west coast players a chance....lol

it would be cool i think to use all three servers, 1 for TDM, 1 for OBJ, and another for TOW or RB, let me know what u guys want to do so i can start e-mailing clans, the list i was thinking was the fallowing: D12C, UNO, wAc, TxR, HEL, DR, LVPS, GP, DoH, OCG, PxR, UG, TyS, TvS and probably some other clans like ASMD, and w00t to get some more clans involved, if i forgot anyone who is interested let me know.

also the teams would be decided at random instead of east vs west, that way people get to play with different clan members so we can mix it up..

OK GUYS THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN, I AM ALONG WITH T-WRECKS(UNO) AND GRIN(GP) GOING TO BE PICKING 14 TEAMS THAT WILL BE ABLE TO PERTICIPATE ALL TOGETHER EACH TEAM WILL CHOOSE 2 PLAYERS 1 TO PLAY IN THE OBJ ALL STAR MATCH AND ANOTHER TO PLAY IN THE TDM ALL STAR MATCH, PLUS ANOTHER PLAYER WHO IS A BACKUP FOR BOTH THOSE PLAYERS, THE TEAMS WILL BE DECIDED BY PING WHICH MEANS BOTH TEAMS WILL HAVE LOW AND HIGH PING GUYS ON THEIR TEAM....

THE MATCHES WILL BE PLAYED ON THE (GP) SERVER FOR THE OBJ MATCH AND THE (UNO) SERVER FOR THE TDM, AND GRIN AND T-WRECKS WILL BE THE OCS FOR BOTH MATCHES AND WILL PROVIDE SHOUTCASTING FOR THIS RARE EVENT....

I WILL BE PICKING THE 14 TEAMS THAT WILL BE PARTICIPATING AFTER I COME UP WITH THE FINAL LIST, IF YOUR TEAM IS NOT SELECTED THEN BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME, WE WILL TRY TO SELECT THE BEST OF THE BEST....ANY QUESTIONS FIND ME ON IRC TODAY.

i can tell already this might end in disaster, so i want to make one thing clear, that only clans will be picked by a committee so if your clan isn't picked dont take it personally, it just means ur not "out there" and showing ur stuff...

Well all in all this is a fight for fun. Like the Pro-bowl in football. When you are picked have fun, if you are not try harder for next time . Good luck to all clans that are chosen w00t!

here's a thought... why do we have to do Clan vs Clan? We can TRY to divide clans based on where the leaders live, and have East clans vs West.... That way, players from DIFF CLANS play together on a team, like 7v7

east coast vs west coast is no, cause of ping difference, besides the majority of player live in the east, we will be deviding it up, and dont worry XCON wAc will be in this for sure....

i hope -(FS)- will be involved in this.. considering we were #1 in 3 ladders while we were HotA.. if not that is fine.. but i think we deserve a shot.. thanks.

All the gametypes should be played IMHO

I can run a large Ventrilo server for it...maybe TS...I can't promise anything since I've never setup a TS server.

ok, here's the deal.

the vision was to have a game where all the "prominent" players got to play each other. that means all the ppl who talk to each other in IRC, MSN, the forums, and just generally have fun playing with each other. more or less, "active" players, who make themselves known...

XCON, i don't know if you are a sure shot in this... but i might vote for you, just b/c i would want the chance to be opposing you and snipe ya in the arse a few times. but see... that's what this is about. how many ppl have wanted to shoot me for stuff i said on the forums? now's your chance. how many ppl want to shove a rocket up shirley's dress? this is what i will be looking at (above average skills will be required)... just the "popular" players. as those are the players that are most active in the TWL SH community, the ones that keep everything going. and most of all... the ones that make it fun, or interesting. so, i can tell you now... for those new clans, i'm sorry, but i can tell you now, there's a 99.9999% chance that no one from your team will be in it. no offense, you haven't even had time to make your presence well known. but hopefully all will go well and we'll have more.

as for >V< i know some of yall are from a former clan, and therefore only those ppl we knew of formerly, will even be LOOKED at.

again, this is an all-star game for fun. to bring together those of us who enjoy playing with each other, or WOULD enjoy it, but never get the chance to. so please don't take it personally if you aren't picked. if you'd like to make your own, you can. or if you'd like to try and make it the next time... become more active, get talking in IRC, use the forums more, provide your input, joke around w/ the locker room talk that goes on in here.... there's plenty of room for it.

it's the same thing with me posting pictures. i have pics of ppl on my clan, but no one in TWL really knows them that well. they aren't active in the forums, and only clans who play against them in matches see them for just a short time. occasionally someone will see them in a server. their pictures aren't of much interest. the ones i choose are pics that everyone in the community... as a whole, (everyone, as a whole?) would enjoy viewing. that's how this "all-star" game will be. i guess think of it more as a celebrety match. because it's not all based on skill. we'd never be able to finalize a roster for that.

i hope this clarifies any questions, and hopefully doesn't shatter any dreams. like i said, hopefully more will follow, assuming this one goes through. as for any dates of progress, i'm gonna be busy getting ready to start up classes again after labor day, and working on various other projects b4 that starts up. so i can't devote a huge ammount of time. but when we can discuss who will play, via email, MSN, whatever.... we'll let yall know the progress.

Grin I am not wanting to participate just to have the chance to kill you but I would like to participate just because I think it is a good idea. There are far better people in my clan than me. I am a sniper, 1 of 3, in my clan. I thought the clans sent there better players? but if I am reading you right, now you guys are going to pick them? I think it would be best to be left up to the team founders/leaders....sure I would like to play but hey if Ace thinks somebody else should go well so be it. And if I do end up playing we will see who ends up sniping who in the ass. lol

hopefully I will see all of you guys on the battlefield!

XCON, you know i was just using you as an example. i'm in it for just the fun and the atmosphere of the game. that'll be good enough for me.

as for teams picking the best of their squads... i realised that some clans have more than 1 very prominant member who should make it to the game... other clans, albeit high ranked, might be somewhat quiet, and not really have anyone to submit. we really haven't talked that much all together yet to figure out the best way. i'm actually kind of thinking about asking each clan to select 2-3 ppl to submit from their own squad, and we'll use those as a list to pick from... kind of both the idea i just talked about, and what we had originally planned. eitherway, if we have another one, we'll try to include ppl who didn't make it the first time, and furthermore, we're gonna try our best to be the more fair in figuring out who IS going to be able to show up, and lastly, we're gonna try and figure out the mostest funner way to do this, so that we have the maximum happiness.
