Stadt map bug on Linux servers

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2003-09-14 · 54 posts
I just wanted to know if everyone was aware of the ladder bug on the Stadt map if you are using a Linux server. On our server you cannot climb up the ladder on the Allie side. We do not want a team to try and call a forfeit for this reason so i was wondering what everyones thoughts on this are?
-Ace
indeed. We had a team say our server was un-fit for a match but realy there was nothing wrong with it. Just that ladder we couldn't go up. We are also on a linux box and have the same problem.

Another bug on linux servers.... the crosshair will move automatically sometimes. Not by much, but if you pay close attention you will see it. Don't know if thats just our server.

About Code Security: Some people think the 2 anti_cheat lines are suppose to be set to 0. One of those two, when set to 1 (on) doesn't allow anyone to chat while its checking for the anti-cheat. ITs a bitch but its how it is. (atleast on our server) And apparently it lags some players out. Just because it doesn't allow you to chat for about 3-8 seconds and because one of you're teamate keeps "lagging out" does not give you the right to play without it. I had something like that come up. Thoug it was our last match i just didn't care.
Well, after being in the stadt map for about 5 minutes the other team decided that our server wasnt deemed good enough to play on because of the ladder, so we went to there server because i did not want them to protest the match. I would maybe like to see something in the rules section about this.

I was playing in a public server and encountered the Stadt ladder problem (don't remember which server though)...we've never had this problem in a match, but i'd have to say it's a rather big issue...what if the glitch was a door that only opened one way?? It's a major advantage, even though allies have the major disadvantage on that map. I would have to agree that the server would be unfit for the match, atleast just on that map.

hmm, this is interesting. we have a linux server, and i do notice the crosshair "drift" effect, but it's not too big of a problem.

as far as the stadt map, i'm just glad we don't play TDM... one less problem to worry about, heh.

i'm not sure that there's any more bugs, these are the only two i've heard of so far, so that's good,i guess.

p.s. ruiner.... FIX YOUR SIG!

yeah godsf, that crosshair shifting is a linux server problem. Atleast u can tell if u r in a linux game when that happens
I have noticed the crosshair drifting, did not know that was a Linux problem, but i do now. I also noticed that some of the edges on buildings and windows seem to be moving, i guess this is also a linux problem?......Ace

Well it's not a door it's a ladder. And you play both sides so it's no big deal. Both teams just have to adjust to it.
I agree with Buster, it's not that big of deal, but some teams make it a big deal. Theres nothing that can be done about it at this time. I have even offered to switch sides so that everyone doesnt have to go to another server.....Ace

Why should a team thats not used to this GLITCH have to adjust to the GLITCH to play a match with a team that is used to the GLITCH. Again is the Pure on Linux problem fixed? If not, how can you be playing matches on these servers with Linux anyway since pure is a must when playing a TWL match? HMMM?

I've seen the fix for this, it does exist, i'll look for it again. I think the crosshair drifting has a fix too, it's got something to do with the smoothing change from the prev patch.

Pure DOES WORK on Linux servers. How many times do we have to write this?

Well buster thanks for you reply. There are a lot of things I would like to say to you right now, but none of them are nice, so in the interest of keeping this thread unlocked I will just say, [sarcasm]I sincerely apologize for being ignorant of the fact that sv_pure is now working on Linux servers, and I am greatful that you have filled me in on this piece of information is such a wonderful and delightful manor. Sorry Riddler but it is a little frustrating to hear about this specially when our clan does have a linux server and have been playing in TWL matches with sv pure on for some time now.

riddler, when you come off rude asking AGAIN the same question which was answered just above you, i also have words i would ilke to exchange with you for your ignorance. i don't know why you would get mad at someone for pointing out your own mistake, you can only be mad at yourself.

i would be interested in this fix, though we don't play TDM, we do have the crosshair drift. i've never noticed whole buildings or edges drift though.

p.s. sv_pure on linux servers DOES work for any of those who have doubt in their mind and/or don't wish to scroll up.

So that's why it moves, I was beginning to think it was my mouse or something! the buildings do that same thing on mine

and please Grin don't start. It's their business not yours.
To say that it is a glitch that both teams have to face , deal with it , is ridiculous. The maps are made to be played a certain way , and if you start removing ways up and down certain parts of the maps then you are changing the way the map should be planned and played. No thanks , i would rather not limit the amount of choke points , thanks.
Secondly , we need a definitive answer to this anti-hack thing. If i had a vote it would be disabled because a.) Insta-hexen at the beginning does the same thing. and b.) Ceratin people DO for a FACT time-out because of it , thereby making the server , in my opinion , unfit.
how can you people see it as a "glitch" just take it as a door that doesn't open. plain and simple. It works both ways doesn't it? Yes. Neither team can go up. Neither team can go down (the ladder that is).

And doors that don't open. Can either team open it? No, they can't. So why the fuss about this ladder? I've played in a few matches on that map. neither team bitched or deemed it as an unfair server. It works both ways so people should just deal with it. No more, no less. Its a server.

Some of you might have more members so the actual priceing of a server isn't what matters. But when you have few members in a clan well any server that works (linux or not). Easy as that.

-Fury
Fury , i love ya man but you are off-base on this one ... IMO. As an example , what if (and i know it wouldnt happen but roll with me on this...) what if Linux caused you not to be able to cross the plank at Stalingrad , or go through the middle cut-through in Algiers , or go in the Hotel at the bridge??? It would change the way the maps are played and make any strategies involving those areas useless. The maps should be played in full , the way they were designed to be played.
Anyone has decent prices for non-linux servers?

Right now we are paying $80us a month including 20 player server and 20 player teamspeak.

I was wrong I apologize, I missed the first post responding to my question. I will not justify my rude comment, only again say I apologize. Grin, you are absolutely correct, I should have paid more attion before I made the comment.

That being said, I agree with Diesel on this, this isn't something teams should have to put up with it IS a glitch and teams shouldn't have to play with the glitch if they feel it could be a potential problem.

Also, I've seen the sniper drift, I've played with it a couple times and I didn't find it to be too big of an issue, actually I was sniping a helluva lot better than usual in the server that had the problem.

Riddle me this...
>TvS< The Riddler
>Television Studs< http://www.tvstuds.com
I think a team souldn't have to play with a glitch like that....I understand it's not a big problem of TDM because of the team switching but on Round-Based it is a big problem.
well, riddler, you are one of the few ppl to earn my respect. i did jump out on ya, but unfortunately the norm is that they would have never understood why they were jumped on in the first place. so from my rudeness, i do apologize, i know it can be a mistake, and you have earned my respect in handling it better than i did

now onto business. yes, i agree that any doors being locked and/or ladders being "broken" i would see that as a problem. as far as the scope drift, it's there, but it doesn't drift if you are moving it, i have had no problems, i just notice it when i'm sitting back waiting on someone. never has been a problem for sniping them.

as far as the anti-cheats in CS... i haven't actually tried that yet, so i'm not sure as to if it does cause lag or not (i do not personally know). only thing i could say is i know that MAM does the same thing (forcing certain cvar values) and it does not lag the server. but i did want to mention that, but i do not wish to get into the debate of using MAM in a match, not in this thread.

and lastly, yes, i agree, being a clan with very few contributors, we had to drop down to a linux box. personally, i like it a lot, except for the poor linux support from EA. we've got a linux box 20 man, with full control of teamspeak (installed ourselves). so however many ppl we want and whatever codec (just have to pay attn to the server's performance) for $60/mo. i couldn't dream to go back. not to mention the things you can do to a linux box gives you so many more advantages than a shared windows server. i didn't go to a linux box at first because of the sv_pure issue, but once i saw it was working, and we were short on money... we went in a heartbeat.

/me is still waiting for this said fix for the broken ladders and crosshair drift

Hey dies..... i hear you but its not the case. It would be a very different thing if it was but its just the ladder. And you and i, and everyone else knows it works both ways. So are you saying that we ban Linux servers for matches? That would be a little harsh for those that have them don't you think? I'm sure alot more have windows based server but some have linux. Like it or not they seem to be cheaper so people jump on em.

I do understand what you're saying and what you mean. But its not the case. You are able to cross on the wood thing on stalingrad, you are able to enter int he hotel. It doesn't affect the game that much. Just stay away from it. Besides, its rare that i see someone go up that ladder. Though its a crucial spot int he map, many ways around it.

Anyways, my posting here is pointless. So i will not reply anymore. I'll only get upset.
No banning Linux boxes wasn't what i was thinking. A fix of some sort would be better , and simply if you have one and stadt is one of your matches , i think agreeing to a 2 server match would be in fairness until a fix is found. And keep posting or we will get lonely
you'll get lonely no matter what. I'm gone for a week starting tomorrow! so no posts from me for a week! =P enjoy it!
ok well, I couldnt find the fugger, so I decided to just make my own by porting the win32 stadt scr over to a linux mod, try this and tell me if it works.

http://www.tekmunki.com/pz/zzz-pz_linux_stadttfix.pk3

edit:
obviously you have to stop and start the server so the scr may load.

could the admins PLEASE make up their mind on this and post it as a sticky and stick it in the rules? i thought it was illegal, then just recently after the dropped honesty config, both were "OKed" officially, and now antihack is back to 0. i don't care which at this point, just make a rule please and make sure it's well known.

Please, right now our config for matches have both set to 0. One of them cuts out the typing for 5-8 seconds.

I tried it on the Quazar server and it doesn't work.
ah, back to the drawing boards. it's hard to do without actually having a linux server to test with... :/ I'm convinced it's because that little hut is too low on linux servers so the head of the character hits the rafter.
I am working on a linux fix that will put boxes at the bottom of that ladder you can jump up on like in Flughafen to get on roof.. I will work on it this weekend. That should bypass the ladder blocking.

This may interfere with sv_pure if it changes the actual pak file.

No, it would be a seperate pak file. 110% sure
