Noticed a lot of people complaining about these two programs being resource hogs. I've been being kicked for key packet loss, so I searched for a solution and found this:

1. Click on the start menu, click on Run.... Type services.msc.
2. Under services find PnkBstrA. Right click it and stop it from the option in the drop-down menu.
3. Now double click it. On startup type select disabled.
4. Repeat 2 and 3 for PnkBstrB.
4. Go to your windows/system32 folder.
5. Find the two files, PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe and delete them.
6. Go to Activision/Call of Duty 2/pb folder.
7. Delete PnkBstrB.exe and PnkBstrK.
8. Go to http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=dl-cod2.php and download the pbsetup for your operating system.
9. Install. Select game directory and update PB.

Worked wonders for me and now I don't get kicked for key packet loss anymore.
I did that, and they both just got reinstalled.
Just did it, wonder if its gonna work out now :S
I did that and i still get that lag when my enemy is nearby or around corners. PB needs a fix asap!

remove them

go into System32/logfiles folder and locate a punbuster folder in there. (there is one, find it and delete it)

goto process (right click on pbA and pbB) and disable them, then go back to evenbalance and run the auto update to get all the correct files.

problem solved process no longer run, and no more game lag.

**note*** ...
Vista O/S can NOT disable as these are for you.
Or how about upgrading your pc? I run both files and I experience no lag whatsoever.

LOL you sound like the ppl in the Cal forums. Thats what they all say Upgrade or get a new PC, when the problem is very minor.
i could care less if it uses up some minimal amount of resources. I dont like that it installed a service to run outside of the game without my knowledge. Could be taking SS of all the sites i visit for all i know!

What sites would those be?
just found this faq on evenbalance. I'm assuming it's new since there was no mention of it yet. http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsvcfaq.php

I ran the program and it does have an uninstaller so that might be a little more thorough than just deleting the executables.

What's funny is after reading the faq i reinstalled it to see if that keeps me from having to run as admin in Vista.

It is best to leave Punkbuster alone. It is not recommended to follow any unofficial directions as results may vary and may cause additional problems.

These new services are in place for good reason and have been established to help resolve OS/Privelages related errors. No additional lag should be encountered because the same files are running as before, just in service mode.
