Question for an admin:

This was brought up a while ago when the IRC bot was first introduced but I don't know that there was ever a decision made.

So, here's the question again. Is the IRC bot legal to use for TWL sanctioned matches?

As far as I know there is no advantage to having it on a server other than allowing players not in the match to keep up with the way that it's progressing. It creates no lag to speak of and while it "takes up a space on the server" so does and admin spectating.

A final and definite decision on this would be greatly appreciated. And please don't say, "well, if it's agreed upon by both teams then you can use it." Cuz that line is way over used by some to basically make no decision at all.

For you to use an IRC Bot in match you have to ask team in comms when you post server info. They have to agree to allowing the IRC Bot if they do agree that IRC bot can be used then it is fine. If not then it gives you time to remove it.

Any team can want it removing for match if they choose if you did not ask them before the match.

It might cause problems if the other clan doesnt know what it is and sees it in the match. It would take alot of time explaining before each match, unless it was explained and agreed upon in match comms beforehand.
The problem that seems to come up is when a team comes into a server for the match, not having seen that an IRC bot is continually running on the server 24/7 and will use it as an excuse to play on their server.

What I think TWL should do is either say yes, the IRC bot is okay to have on during matches or no, the IRC bot cannot be used at all during matches.

It's a simple 2 second decision. Personally, I don't care one way or the other, but I want to know before a match whether or not we're going to be playing on our server or their's on something as stupid as this.

You're right. Actually it expands the number of available slots on a server. We've had upwards of 20 players on the server at one time. Kinda cool actually.

Sol the decision is "no desicion. Figures. Why can't we get a straight Yes/No answer. Forget match comms. Either say yes or no.

Server Types

"Matches must be played on servers running the most current TeamWarfare mandated version of Rainbow Six: Raven Shield and the associated maps. Currently NO gameplay mods are to be installed on the server. The match must be played on a dedicated server connected to at least a T1 connection. Cable, DSL, Satellite or other broadband connections are not acceptable at this time."

Per TWL Rules. Key words here are "No gameplay mods" The bot is considerd a mod.

Pardon me for sounding like a dumbass, but doesn't the term mod imply modify? A IRC bot doesn't modify the game in any way, shape, or form. All it does it just sit there and records the global chat. Please post a offical TWL meaning to the word, 'mod', to clarify for everybody from this point on.
