Can someone help with my problem?

Problem: horrible frame rate

ok, i tried all of your tricks listed in these various threads and nothing has helped me...not the cachemegs, not the modding of certain ini values, not the connection thing, not even the net speed...could someone please help me out here, I can't stand it when I die in the middle of a fight because I had video lag...

my specs:

AMD Athalon 1800+ XP processor
MSI motherboard
128Mb Asylum Geforce 4 4200Ti AGP video card (NVidia chipset)
SoundBlaster sound card
896Mb DDR-RAM, PC-2100
40Gb Western Digital HDD, 7200 RPM

At best, I can get 60 fps but only if I am in a map with very little detail and I am looking at a wall...anytime I see someone in a CQB situation, my fps drops to 20 or less (even with the min frame rate set at 25)...every new map, every room that I entire gives me horrible lag (often a second or longer)...even with my image settings set as low as they can go, it makes no difference...kinda hard to kill someone in these conditions...I have all of the latest drivers for Windows XP, and my video/sound drivers...

Can anyone help me out here? I would really like to join up with a clan again, but everytime I go to "prove myself", I get owned cause of my problem with frames per second...although most people that I play would agree that I am an incredible sniper with almost any weapon, this is due largely to the fact that I can't engage in CQB fights...thus, the sit back and snipe strategy...

someone help?
i never even heard of any tricks, ill get you an awnser but could u list me some, i get video lag after about 2 maps no clue why

Intel P4 2.4ghz
512 pc 2300 ram

What type of monitor are you using and what resolution do you play the game at and what resolution is your desktop? I can help you but I need to know things.

What kind of soundblaster card? Try setting UseSound=False in your RavenShield.ini. Play a bit with this set to false. Its wierd with no sound, but if your fps problem goes away, your bottleneck is your soundcard.

Myself, I had to turn decals way down to prevent fps dips in firefights. :/
Hell, your not the only one with Frame Rate issues. I have a GeForce FX 5900 Ultra and during single player, Im over 300 FPS @ 1280X1024 with 8X Anti Aliasing and 8X anisotropic
Filtering. I can drop all AA/AF and drop resolution to 800X600 and Im capped at 60 FPS during multiplayer. I've done everything from running 3rd party refresh programs, Omega video drivers, Messing with DirectX you name it. Doesn't matter what set up I use, in Multiplayer, Im capped at 60 FPS.

Great game but all the bugs in this game are really making me lose interest in it. I've had nothing but problems with the game and Im about to hang it up I think. Just so you know here are the system specs:

Soltek nForce2 Motherboard with 333 FSB O/Ced to 390MHz
AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Barton Core @ 2.322 GHz
GeForce FX 5900 Ultra 256MB
1GB Kingston HyperX PC3200 DDR @ PC 3500

I think the above system which I just built a couple months ago (Except for the video card) Should be more than able to push well past 60 FPS. Oh well. RVS Gay.

Orion
turn the sound off like he said..& try it......if your rate goes way up then play with the sound to find an acceptable balance
Im running Onboard audio. Soundstorm audio is actually better than my Soundblaster Card.

RVS gay me thinks. Had enough for now at least.
The RvS engine uses something called Dare (I think) engine for audio. If the sound card doesn't support it, it struggles with the alternate.

New Splinter Cell demo and Raven Shield Update - Mikael @ 05:53 EST

An updated demo for EAX Advanced HD Supporting Splinter Cell has been released.

Splinter Cell use the same audio code as Raven Shield which unlike I yesterday incorrectly guessed is not using the same audio code as the latest Unreal engine but one named the DARE Audio system. It's not even using OpenAL but the traditional DS3D. Another interesting difference is the EAX support is not exclusively EAX AdvancedHD but features backwards compatibility with EAX 1.0/2.0 cards.

Thanks to Anders Albrechtsen for the correction. He also reports that the 3D sound as well as the reverb works just fine in both the Raven Shield MP demo and the Splinter Cell SP demo using his Audigy 2 card.

Soundstorm is a good audio system, but I don't know if it supports Dare audio system. The audigy, which is probably on the machines Ubi uses, does. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Ubi tests software on virtually identical machines and I bet it rocks on that exact hardware/os combination, only.

the reason ur capped at 60 during multiplayer is your netspeed setting.

In console type "netspeed 8500" for starters you can tweak your netspeed per server basis to accomidate for latency and other lag related issues. Keep your netspeed above 6000 and that "60 fps" cap during multiplayer goes away. If you got cable or dsl 8500 - 15000 is a good ball field to work in.

tried the net speed thing, worked a little, maybe 5-10 fps...but i still get get only 50 fps at best...usually below 20 in firefights...tried to turn off all sound, didn't help...and in single player, i get the eact same fps... should i get a new processor or something?
Does the FPS drop over a period of time?

Like you join game its really good FPs and slowly falls to really low FPS after a while?

If so I know another way to fix this.

I stay at almost a constant 100 in MP games because I have vsync on and my refresh rate caps out at 100.

after doing all these improvements it is still around the same i get an increse of about 10 fps... i am also on all high settings for the game, i think my monitor is holding me back ...

"Dont fear us, death is Inevitable"

More than likely your being dragged down by a slower older proccesor we all know how CPU and system demanding this game is. Though 50 fps is not too bad so I wouldnt rush out to upgrade quite yet. Wait for that 1.4 patch to come out and some of your Fire fite FPS issues should be fixed.

Sorry for all those who dont get to play at a nice 150-170 fps like me... I have even gone above 220's on some maps (looking at a wall but still...) than again I have a absurdly expensive system but I use it for other things than just gaming.

OctaNe
There's a damn good possibility that it might be your monitor holding you back. See, I have modified my driver monitor so that it only allows my monitor to run at one resolution(1024x768) and one refresh rate(100mhz). Any FPS below 60 is detectable by the eye. Any FPS over 60 isn't detectable by the eye, but you can still tell through the gameplay.

i got 2.4 ghz and 512 ram , is that too slow?

"Dont fear us, death is Inevitable"

NO thats more than enough
looking at my clock speed on my CPU, I have 1.15 Ghz (shitty AMD 1800+), wtf?...and I have 896 Mb of DDR-RAM...and a 128Mb Geforce4 4200TI...

how is that?
THAT 1800 is slow thats prob ur problems in CQ other than that its more than enough.
Actually, if you're getting 1.16 GHz with the 1800 you have your box set up wrong. The 1800 is rated at 1.54 (or is it 1.53, can't remember) GHz.

I run an athlon xp 1800+ and the game runs fine. I get between 80-100 FPS, and it dips to about 50 in firefights.

My gfx card is only a little better than yours is henge. I'm using a geforce4 ti4600.

Check the memory settings in the bios and make sure that when you load yer pc it gives you the correct speed of the cpu.
Don't forget to upgrade your Direct X to 9, that was my problem (I had 7, lmao).
Actually, I'd recommend not upgrading to 9 unless your video card handles/supports it. Just takes up CPU clock cycles and GPU clock cycles for figuring stuff out that isn't even used...8.1b is probably still your best bet. Also try running it in Windows 2000 compatibilty mode, makes a great difference.
Yeah something is not setup right in the bios. Your 1800 should be at 1.54ghz. What motherboard do you have?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

When I first bought the game I was running:

1.2 Athlon
384mb 133 Ram
Geforce 2 Pro

When I turn some settings down, I would get 40-60 fps. In smoke+firefight...it would sometimes drop to 15-20. Still, it was very playable.

I have since updated the mb, ram, and processor and that let me turn the settings up.

turn vsync off, change cache size to 128 (or wtrv ur card supports, i think ultra is 256) change connection type to t3(important, at cable it stays to 66 for some reason), i have fx 5900 w/out ultra and i avg 120 fps.

=====================================================================
The irony of life is that no one gets out alive..
DO not turn vsync off, because you run the chance of image tearing. Do not turn connection type to T3 either, that increases packet loss risk. Norx isn't the brightest of the bunch.

ok dont do it and keep ur measly 60 fps,
im not the only one who does this , i asked what was wrong and kempi told me to do this , it worked so im passing on my knowledge. so if u want dont take my advice and listen to deklin worthless advice

You're a dolt norx. Part of the reason he is hitting 60 fps is because of the refresh bug in windows xp. Another reason is because something in his bios isn't set up right and his 1800+ is only registering at 1.15 when it should be at 1.54.

iw as posting regard orion, not gamhenge or wtrv. i had same problem as orion, now ill keep the names i have for you to my self, i hope u do the same thing. im not usualy civil about htis shit, but i see no sense in escalding it cuz so far seems to be a misunderstanding , and if you have a gforce fx 5900 then u will get only 66 fps unless u do what i said. even if ur bios is setup right and stuff.
=====================================================================
The irony of life is that no one gets out alive..
the highest TRUE fps you can get is relative to your monitor just because you see 120 doesnt mean thats what your seeing so you might as well keep vsynch on to maintain immage quality of course if you like the buffer room vsynch off leaves you well than it may be worth the image tearing you occasionaly reacieve... as far as t3 connection no one with DSL or BROADBAND should ever go above 15000 netspeed it will just make matters worse for gameplay. anything above 6000 netspeed will give you the same performance increases so tweak it to your liking.

OctaNe
ah thats true, i gota new monitor that might have been why i saw an increase appologies to deklin (i think), although i still think ur an @$$hole for the name calling. becuase i was just trying to help.
