The Raven Shield Patch 1.5 / 1.51 Dilemma
A Detailed FAQ Concerning This Most Infamous Patch
Q: Can you get right to it and tell us what the fuss is all about?
A: There are a few problems with this patch (as we all know) but there is one main problem that was alarming and why most ladders would not mandate it. The problem is this: You have the ability to peak through any solid surface, clearly view the other side of that surface/the entire map and watch other players movements. Youre able to do this entire action for as long as you want, at any given time, at any point you choose and on virtually every map.
Q: I just tried to do this. So why was I only able to peak for a split second?
A: On most maps there are certain enabling points which allow you to initiate this ability. Once you have enabled it you are then able to look through surfaces as long as you want and anywhere you want. Also, some maps dont require these points for this glitch to work but some maps dont have these points at all and therefore are unaffected by this problem.
Q: Can you tell me where these enabling points are? If not, then why.
A: No. The reason for this FAQ is to explain why these patches have not been mandated and to help the community understand why that decision was made. With that said, these points are not very hard to find and once you discover one (on one map) you will know what to look for (on other maps).
Q: Ok, I have tried this out but the players seem to disappear after about 5 seconds. I know this may help teams but it seems limited and you stated before that the time was unlimited. Is this not the case?
A: Yes and No. If you are to look extendedly through a wall, player images will disappear after 5 seconds but all other images will stay. You can always see breaking glass, bullet holes form and footprints being formed.
Q: Is there any way to get around the 5 seconds?
A: Yes. One way is when you look through a wall with a HBS then your view becomes unlimited to character images. Another way is with a thermal scope just zoom in, enable
thermals then zoom out and the image will reappear. In addition, you can shift with thermals and look clear across rooms at players with thermals on that you normally would not be able to see. They stay visible indefinitely. Finally, if you just un-peak then look at any other player then peak again the image will reappear. In some cases, depending upon your frame rate, you can look as long as 15-20 second at any given time.
Q: Are you able to shoot though any of these surface or throw grenades or ?
A: Yes and No. You cannot do this through solid walls or boxes (and there could be consequences if you do) BUT you can do this through any surface that normally breaks, like windows or doors.
Q: Can other players see you looking into/through a wall or door?
A: In most cases it just looks as if your player is just standing beside a wall looking forward. The only exception we discovered was peaking through a breakable surface like a wood door or window.
Q: What about PB? Wouldn'tt they detect this?
A: Although I have not tested/checked any PB sss, I will answer this with a few assumptions. I assume PB would take a screen shot of you peaking through a surface but that ss would have to be very obvious, to be noticeable. First, PB sss are based around your reticule and do not
use the full screen. In most cases, when looking through a wall, for example, it can/will just appear that you are beside the wall and looking in a general direction. The only noticeable sss would be ones that show you looking at the full map (like in a ghost cam mode) and you see everything.
Q: I keep hearing that this bug has been always around. Is this true?
A: In a sense yes but nowhere near to this extent. In past cases you may be able to peak for a millisecond but that was it just a flash of other side that was so useless that it was never mentioned before now.
Q: Do you know why this is happening?
A: There are a lot of hypothesis as to why this is happening and we do not know the exact reason but I can give you a relation. If you were to bring up your FPS, you will notice that it displays much slower and changes at an equal interval (about 5 seconds). If you were to look
through a surface at a player image, that image will most likely disappear at that same interval. So I will speculate that the static mesh was screwed up when something was done to help the FPS issue. Again, just theorys. ☺ One that that we have noticed is that you can look longer if you are running frame rates over 100fps.
Q: Some ladders seem to know what this bug is but still mandate 1.51. Why?
A: We are more concerned with the integrity of our own ladder and its community. When we became aware of this problem we immediately decided to mandate 1.41 only but not force that if both teams would agree to another patch. We believe in the maturity of our members and never thought it to be an issue. I can only speculate that other ladders which mandated 1.51 either did not have the full facts of this problem or have total trust in all their members not to use this exploit.
Q: How did you come to know of this glitch and some of the other ladders didnt?
A: The chain of events was quite simple. A team had discovered the glitch while playing. They relayed the discovery to one of their members who is an admin at The Combat Zone. After testing, the admin passed on the info to Holden (Lead Admin/Founder TCZ) and Witness (Lead Admin TCZ). He then contacted Casey BulletTooth Keefe from UBI who proceeded to pass on the info to the developers. Since his team also competed at TeamWarfare, the admin then passed that info onto the senior admins from TeamWarfare who tested themselves. At this point BulletTooth asked both of the ladders not to reveal the nature of the problem, hoping that a fix would be in short order.
Q: Why release the info now?
A: Since a fix has not been released yet, the topic has died down and we are not being asked to hold off in revealing this info. We feel it is in the best interest of the community to know what 1.5/1.51 is all about and they can judge on their own as to what patch they wish to
participate on. The release of this information will in no way change the mandated patch from 1.41 until a fix for this problem is released.
Q: This patch has a serious multiplayer glitch, why didnt UBI scrap 1.5 or fix it with 1.51?
A: um .. yes.
Q: Anything else?
A: We are providing Screen Shots and Video of this bug, to show first hand what this bug can do. Click - http://cyberwebwerx.com/files/glitch_final_twl-tcz.wmv to see the video.
