Upcoming Changes to the 8v8 NA Leagues at TWL

TWL NA 8v8 League Announcement

As most of you are aware, our 8v8 competitions at TWL are highly popular leagues and ladders. The current signup for the NA 8v8 League has topped 100 teams. While we encourage everyone who wants to play in TWL League play to sign up, we recognize the issues playing with that many teams in 1 league. With that in mind, I am pleased to make the following announcement regarding the 8v8 NA Leagues.


So what's the deal?

Myself and the League Staff have worked out a plan that we believe will give the 8v8 NA League teams the most enjoyment while making TWL the place to play for 8 man competitions.

First, I am proud to announce the opening of 2 8v8 leagues for this season in NA. The NA 8v8 Open League and the NA 8v8 Intermediate League.


The Open League will be of course open to ALL teams wishing to signup. For this season, we are breaking it up into 4 divisions with 32 teams each. Each division will have an admin for scheduling issues. A 4 week, 32 team playoff will be held at the end of the season to crown the Open League champion. 128 total slots are open for teams to join in.


The Intermediate League will be by invite only for its inaugurial season. Teams who have participated and placed in the finals bracket of the Global Crisis Tournament will get first consideration. After season 1 a process to petition for admission to the Intermediate League will be outlined. For season 1 a 3 week, 16 team playoff will be held. Currently we are looking to seed 32 teams in the Intermediate league divisions.


In season 2, (Demand existing) we will open an Expert League. Rulesets and participation requirements are forth coming. We expect only the highest level teams will want to join this league and the rulesets will be as stringent as possible.

What are we trying to accomplish?

-Good competition with peer teams and not teams wildly outbalanced opponents playing each other.
-A tournament atmosphere with each league season.
-A spot for everyone to play.

Those of you who are currently signed up in the 8v8 NA Open league, the staff is working diligently to get you setup to play next week (9/22). Teams that are eligeble for Intermediate will be contacted over the course of the next few days to get your league up and running as soon as possible.

NA 8v8 League night is Thursday nights.

you have open and intermediate so what prompted the change to "expert" in the league naming?

Its a description, not a name. It doesnt exist, therefore we have not named it yet.

The intent was to show teams the tier system we will be using.

So will the Intermediate league be on thursdays also? Because we don't want to be in the open league, we'd rather be in the Intermediate league.

Please help me understand what this means, "Teams who have participated and placed in the finals bracket of the Global Crisis Tournament will get first consideration."

1) Does this mean the Division winners or a subset of that group?
2) What's the medium for communicating a team's status with the "I" League?

Lastly, I know my squad is excited about playing in the 8v8 League, but we have not received an "I" invite, nor have the option to add ourselves via the Team Admin panel. A little guidance, please.

8v8 league night is Thursday for all levels.
