I am planning on hosting a composite tourney towards the beginning of November. For those of you who dont know what a 'composite' tourney is, its a tournament based on a composite of several gametypes. Something to test the TRUE overall skill of a team . Here is what I have in mind for options, let me know what you think'd be more fun.
Option1:
Having each round of the tourney split among gametypes. For instance, for each round:
Game 1 - TS
Game 2 - CTF
Game 3 (Tie-breaker) - TDM/FTL
This would continue on every round until a winner is determined.
Option 2:
Break up the rounds by gametype:
Round 1 - 3 games of TS
Round 2 - 3 games of FTL
Round 3 - 3 games of TDM
Round 4 - 3 games of CTF
There's the two options, let me know which you prefer. Personally, I like Option 1 as it mixes it up, and will keep teams that are strong in one gametype from getting the 'easy' win over a team who isnt as strong in that particular gametype.
With Option 1, you have some more balance. A strong TS team will have to win both a TS and a CTF game to advance. Which should even it out a bit. If they split the games, you settle the match with some good old fashioned ass-whoopin (tdm)!
I am planning on having at least 16 teams signed up, which would give us 4 rounds including the final. If we have more then 16 teams sign up, we would have to shoot for 32 teams to keep the rounds even. With a 16-team bracket, option 2 works out well as there are 4 gametypes, 1 for each round.
Let me know what you all think, and I will get working on setting it up! I'm working with a few groups to help get some prizes for the winners, probably nothing spectacular, but at least its something
