TWL CTF League scheduling.

OK now that the season is pretty much over, I thought I would bring up the scheduling. There needs to be a system in place other than the admins just picking who plays who. So I am starting this now in hopes that the so called random way it is done can be changed to some kind of formula. The way it is now with admins just saying you play this team and you play that team just doesn't cut it for alot of people.

Lets see what ideas everyone can come up with to fix this problem.
How about this.

The first weeks matchups are selected by the admins.

The second week the team that scored the highest in the least amount of maps gets first choice to pick who they play next week. The team with the second highest scores gets to pick second... on and on.

Ofcourse the team that scored the least would not get to pick.

Once a team have chosen and played another team, they can no longer pick them again.

This rewards a team that does good that week to get to chose thier apponent next week. They could suck at the next map and choose an easier opponent. Or they could be good at the next map and choose a hard one. Maybe they feel they have the best chance against a certain clan on the following map.

Its not like a team could go all season playing only the easy ones if the divisions are balanced. If they pick all the easy ones they will have the hard ones in the end. But its not likely they will have their choice to pick half of the time.

This eleimates teams from wondering and bitching "well how come i play them? (A) because you got picked. (B)Because they picked you. or (C) because you scored the same as them.

Well, you may ask... what happens if two teams get shut out or score the same? Who picks?. Well if no other team has picked them for the week/map, they would have to play each other next week.

The playoffs would then go as they do now where 1plays4 2plays3 or however it goes.
any word from the admins on this?
I'll be looking into the way scheduling is done for the upcoming season. All scheduling will be done by admins, that's the only way it can be set up. Neverthess, there will be a more concerted effort to schedule teams vs other teams of similar talent on a regular basis, especially as the season progresses and we have a better idea of what each team's record is.

The problem with using a "formula" is teams drop and join the league during the season.
problems with admins picking is if their team plays they can choose a hard team on say sands were anyone can win. A set formula will keep that from happening.
I have been holding off on commenting here because I was hoping to get a broader discussion involing more than just 2 or 3 people. As I have said, I agree that there is room for improvement in the system. There was, infact, a logical system which was used to create matches last season. However, it did not, at all, consider the map being played. Any, suggestions on how to improve the system are greatly appreciated.

Thats sound great!
Kailen: with the admins just saying you play this team and you play that team. is fine, you have to trust the admins that run the league to make the proper decision. sure a formula could work? but the variables are pretty deverse. I.E.(team age, win percentage, past history, etc...)

teams of similar talent sounds pretty good.
it would really suck to be a new clan playing -x- your first week in the league.
now as to the fact teams do join and quit during the starting weeks of the season.
the admins are just going to have to know the players history.
I.E. (if players from -x- and [e] started a new clan)

so as you can see this is a very compilcated matter.

STA has the swiss scheduling, which matches up stronger teams together. TWL could run it like STA, one division swiss style, or make it 2 divisions with swiss style in each. I think Clanbase runs multiple divisions with everyone playing each other. I have yet to play an euro cup so I'm not sure how exactly it works. Those are the only 2 leagues for urban terror I know of. It might be worth while to check out other game's leagues to see what they are running for more options.

Or start a record for each division where overall caps for the season are recorded. Most caps plays 2nd most caps. 3rd most plays 4th most, etc. So people who run up scores play each other and average teams play each other, etc.

And for the first week, it's random.

Not the best idea, but it's better than the "random" way now.

This was discussed less then 6 weeks ago in a similar thread. Seems we are repeating ourselves.

16 teams(Hypothetically)

In Round 1 you are drawn at random
against another Team

If you lose you play another team that lost,
If you win you play another team that won.

Hence in Round 2
the 8 Winners will be drawn against each other
and the 8 Losers will be drawn against each other.

By Round 3
we will have 4 Teams that have won both matches,
8 Teams that have won then lost or lost then won
and 4 Teams that have lost then lost.

Again Winners are drawn against Winners,
the 8 in the middle play each other
and the 4 that Lost are drawn against another Loser.

By Round 4
we will have 2 Teams that have won 3 matches,
12 that have won 2 & lost 1 or won 1 and lost 2
and 2 Teams that have lost 3.

....And so on
well i know from most euro leagues not just urt if they have divisions setup you get put in a division based on how good your team is. Once the divisions are set up you only play teams in your division and then once the season is over the teams lowest on each division get bumped down a division and the team with the highest in each division has the option to move up a division, well the lowest division last place team wouldnt move and the highest team in say division a wouldnt move any higher. not sure if that makes any sence the way i said it. im just going off of how a clan i was in played on barrysworld

That would work *IF* you don't have teams quit the leage afte a few weeks. This problem has plagued the league the past few seasons.

We had far too many clans playing shorthanded last season for this to be effective. Playing with a man advantage and running up the score (we've done it) does not measure how good you really are.
Now what about incorporating something like what the national sports teams do, they must have a system to decide who plays who. maybe something like football where there are 2 divisions in each "league" (rangers, seals) and you play each team twice once home once away? Having the better teams in one division and then that would open up some cross division play.

only way to set it up???

just cook up some systematic formula to decide schedualing instead of letting admins hand pick who plays who....
audio haxes ur fat
Swiss Scheduling > All
Swiss Scheduling > BV
Lets get back on this scheduling process. What have we come up with so far besides admins picking what matches they want to see?
ok since its aparrant that no alternative formula scheduling has been brought to the table [the idiotic idea of letting admins, who are in clans, pick matchups doesnt even count], just use Swiss Scheduling.
....and lets just rename the league to STA2 while we are at it.
...better than letting admins pick match ups themselves

i have never seen any competition with such an incompetent scoring system in my life
Just think about it.... how dumb would it be if 5 NFL coaches get together and get to choose the scheduling for the entire league season play
