List any 1.4 bugs you find here plz.

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2003-07-16 · 29 posts
Well just to quicken things up I would like everyone to list anything they find "odd" or buggy in the 1.4 patch.

So far only thing I have noticed was the Tiger thing. I tried to reproduce the others listed to no avail. So far here are the "bugs"

1. Firing to the rear of a tiger if the barrel is "through" the gas tank causes 2/3rds damage to tiger. (Think we will just have to work around this)

2. When prone and trying to fire over another prone player the 2nd player takes damage (unable to reproduce as of yet)

3. Textures being incorrectly drawn on some systems (There is a comment about things "not working" on certain ATI cards, nothing we can do about this)

4. DC does not work correctly with 1.4 (DC teams will have to stay with 1.31 until a patch for DC is released)

Thats all we have so far. I will update this list as we get more. Pending any MAJOR bugs such as the wallhack in 1.3 we should be making 1.4 mandatory in a day or two.

and your point being...its still in 1.4 yes? so its still a bug....troll elsewhere...
Yeah, that's an old one.
Keeper, his point is that the Tiger bug should NOT affect the decision to upgrade to 1.4 because its also in 1.31.
FYI, CAL is switching to 1.4 but they're delaying their matches a week. So, round 2 of the TWL playoffs is happening BEFORE round 1 of CAL.

This means you guys have to decide whether to keep 1.31 for round 2 or just go ahead with 1.4. Hopefully soon, its REALLY annoying to switch between the 2 versions this time :/
My stance is we will play 1.4 over the weekend if by Monday there are no significant bugs, the league will adopt 1.4 for the next round and next season.

So far things look good. Just a little longer.

On the Tiger thing...

It's more of a modeling issue than a bug, to really split hairs. What happens is that the barrel of the tiger is "massless", if you will. It can go right through matter, ie it goes through walls, tanks, and good stuff like that. Then you have gas tanks that stick up slightly. What happens is the barrel is running through the gas tanks. Finally, when you fire, the shot travels through the barrel and right in to the tanks, causing catastrophic damage.

At least that's how it looks to me. It has always been a problem, and, as long as the Tiger doesnt get a "real" barrel like the defgun, I dont see it going away. Either that or the modelers shorten the gas tanks.

Just my 2 pennies on that little problem.

FWIW, I tried for a while to reproduce this one too, and I couldn't.

Any chance of making the 1.4 upgrade sunday instead of monday if things look good? Heh, selfish, have a match sunday. I completely understand wanting to be cautious.
sorry, i'm not understanding why you guys are having a headache over waiting a week or maybe even less to find out if the patch has more bugs in it than what everyone is expecting. The admins realize that the things EA said it came with will be good additions to the game. But at the same time EA has also released another patch that was full of bugs that you guys supposably feel was already 'tested'. Maybe you guys weren't around then? Who's to say that can't happen again? All in all, I'm not an admin or anything but i'm even getting tired of hearing everyone moaning and complaining. Its like listening to a kid ask repeatedly a question over and over again even though he knows the response he's going to get.
I think the reason people want to switch now is becasue it is hard to find a server playing 1.31.

Which ATI cards are experiencing the glitch?
Some other "wierdness"

Player launching with tanks again, not a huge deal - we've all played with it before - but in this case, at least on battleaxe: if a player is in a building, and a tank shell gets tossed into the building, the player will launch *through* the roof

I have been able to replicate the prone player problem, though not as described there - the problem appears when firing over a player that is prone

Odd issues sometimes when reloading - this may have been due to lag though (ie, it performs the reload action, but doesn't actually load)

It's laggier on older machines than it was

The red line when "console.showFPS 1" enabled is annoying

It won't. I just want them all listed so people are aware of them. So I dont have to hear "They hacked the server I couldnt fire behind the tiger without damaging my tank" etc.etc..

When launched in the air by a tank shell you don't die till hitting the ground - once a guy popped his chute and lived (I could never pull it off myself). Another enemy's tragectory landed him on a low embankment and he ran off; and then when I was blasted I was deposited on the 3rd story of a ruined building (jacked up but alive - well I was until the tank machine gunned me)
1.4 has a few bugs but not many. I find myself a lot laggier than i did in 1.31
I also Found out that when i Go to find a server. The Servers say they are equipped with a PW even though they are EAUK or EA servers. (public) Sometimes my game will just Kind Freeze up and than when i click on Multiplayer it will not brind down the Interenet,Create game menu, Only the Menu where you locate a server.(server Detail's) That just about all teh glicthes i have noticed. Besides In game Glitches like BS shots, and Walking through Trees and stuff.

the only major bug IO know of it none of the remote server tools work on the linux servers, and using the remote tool ea gives you crashes the server, you must use the in-game console commands or use the server console to do admin commands on the linux server.
The MGs on the allied destroyer on Guad (haven't tested any others) will cease to fire after depleting its rounds (despite it being set to unlimited ammo). It will still pretend to fire (screen shakes), but it won't actually fire thereafter.
The 180 up/down view seems to be causing some interesting bugs. Once we get some more testing/confirmation of these we will post them here so every one knows what to look for.

We will also add more things to the cheating section as this bug will be listed under "exploits"
My turn:

1.4 does NOT properly represent pings like past versions did. I can have connection interrupted, but people on voice comms will say I have a 66 or 22 ping. And I know for a fact that isn't right, because even if it was just comp lag -- I never got below a 150 ping before.

After v1.4, the clipping is totally screwed. This is a MAJOR bug and needs to be addressed ASAP. Don't bother hiding while prone near walls, because now your figure will be shown on the other side without fail.

Firing a tank shell at someone in a building it will only kill him 50-60% of the time now. I've witnessed this and done it myself numerable times on at least three maps. I jump in a tank, shoot at someone in a building and they fly through the air. The problem is, they fly through the ROOF. On the bunkers in Battleaxe as someone has pointed out, they sometimes land directly on top of the roof. No, they aren't thrown a mile into the air and float gently down to the roof, it's more like an elevator effect. They just get tossed up to the roof somehow, magically. On Omaha Beach, the German bunkers have the same problem. I fire on them, and somehow they magically get tossed to the roof of the bunker instead of getting killed. On Stalingrad, I hit someone on the bottom floor only to see him be transported 3 stories up in the building and throw grenades down on me.

I'm shocked that this wasn't caught during the internal testing.
Not a whole lot we can so to prevent that from happening but thanx for pointing this out. We can add it to the list and send it all off to EA with the sloim chance that they will listen
Yes, I agree the splash effect of getting launched through roofs is very annying when it comes to getting a kill. They just get lainched through the roof and just land on top. I find it to be a bit of a bug.
Again to the clipping thing: when I played Midway a few days ago I walked around the bunker at Coastal Defences, and the clipping f***** up... Suddenly I found myself inside the bunker even if I didn't enter it, then outside again. Happened to me twice already.
I've witnessed the explosion through the roof, land on roof instead of die bug a few times, especially on Stalingrad.
What is the deal with landmines now in 1.4? The patch notes only say you can't back over them like you used to, which is fine, but they also made them way too sensitive. I think they increased the radius too. Not only can you basically not move over mines at all anymore, its so bad now that if you throw a landmine at a stationary tank that is firing, that tank will blow up. Its like having a single expack that will blow up any tank and you don't even have to detonate it.
I can't call it a bug but the AA is seriously off. Pre 1.4, the AA would take damage if you shot into a sandbag, which I agree should be fixed. I don't even mind the AA being more powerful (now two-three near hits = kill). Still, the 1.4 patch makes it so AA can shoot *through* the sandbags. Worse, AA guns can now shoot at a downward angle through sandbags (or carriers) so flying low does absolutely no good. An AA gun can literally shoot through the carrier and take out a plane skimming the water on the other side. Not very balanced.

The only way an AA gun could have it's new range is if it sat up about 15 ft off the ground in a ball turret, like a tee ball. Make that change and it would be more balanced

Landmines=nukes now, a tough change for us tankers, but nothing you cant get used to and deal with. God forbid now us tankers have to actually wait for our infantry, so they can support us instead of being the 1 machine wrecking crew's we were before..
Any way to verify the Ping issue? We had a match last night where the pings were pretty good, but it was laggy for most everyone.

A lot of people think the power of the AA hsa been increase. I found this on the EA forums.

I installed 1.31, then tested.Then 1,4 and tested.
I was glad that in the tests everything was at least very consistent.
Results are.....
1.31 Hanomag, or tank Mgun, vs plane.
6 - 8 rounds to the nose = plane explodes.
Checked 10 times. even got into the plane after each round, to look at the armour bar.
17- 19 hits on tail = plane explodes.
14 hits to wing = plane explodes.
center of fuselage - same as nose.

1.4 Mguns on Hanomags, tanks, vs plane,
14 - 16 hits on the nose of plane = explodes.
24 - 26 hits on tail = explodes.
center of fuselage = same as nose.
so they have reduced the Hanomag, or tank Mguns by around 45%

This is in my opinion good balance, The Mguns comfortably kill planes with only 14 well aimed rounds.... before with only 6 - 8 rounds it was a bit too easy.

Flak, (AAA) 1.31 vs planes.
5 or 6 hits to the nose of plane, or central fuselage = plane explodes.
13 hits to the tail = explodes.

Flak (AAA) 1.4 vs planes
EXACTLY THE SAME.

In this i will apologise for all of my statements made in which i have sided with those who believe the flak to be stronger in 1.4.
Curiously it seems that we all get the inpression that they are better, just because of the new flash animation, which aids aiming.... basically peeps before didn't aim them right, and found flak to feel underpowered.
Some peeps say thay used flak with no problems before 1.4, but now think its easier, and they are right.
It IS easier to bring a plane down now, but only due to the new aiming flashes.

To conclude, The Mguns are less powerful, and the AAA are the same power with better aiming anim.

I also studied the 'Blinding flash' you all describe, and found it doesn't really actually get in the way of aim, its below the eye level, and cursor or crosshair, planes normally attack from above and i dont see the real problem, if you fire in bursts as you should. Conversely i couldn't care if it, and the shake were removed, as it was the ridiculous 6 to 8 caps"
