"give players the chance to fly and fight at the same time with a top secret German prototype Rocket Pack."

wtf, that has to be the gayiest thing they could introduce into this game.
cough cough tribes cough

now wheres my history book with the page about the "german jetpack brigade".....

Oh great a expansion pack based on a "what if" idea.... I for one would rather have more historical maps and weapons, screw that crap.

This expansion is a great idea, provided they start supplying the community free "theater packs" of maps to round out what they have already started.

If not, I have to agree with Maher.

I knew they would start a "what if" expansion because eventually you run out of real events because it is history

However, i think they should make just a general expansion, and add just more battles that really happened...like more pacific.
well, rocket packs and surface to air missiles...

sounds more like desert combat than BF'42. maybe it's just me, but i can't envision a ladder match in 6 months where we play Bocage with m10's and '51s and then the 2nd map is using missiles, rocketpacks, and friggin laserbeams

One of the objectives will be to stop a giant laser that the germans are building. The alternative will be to pay them ONE MILLION DOLLARS!
the jetpack is the most retarded thing they could ever add to this game. they have jetpacks nowadays that can only go for 30 seconds, these old ones better last like 2 seconds and malfunction half the time killing the noob flying. and i thought this was bf1942 not tribes?

agreed, wtf are they thinking?
So is TWL gonna do Desert Combat?

The 0.3 release screengrabs looks really cool. I'd rather be flying an A-10 than a nazi rocketpack.
when its out of alpha

Amazingly, I agree with Maherdogg 100%. (How's that snowstorm down there Satan?)

This would've been a nice expansion maybe if it was the FIFTH (Hey EA, Dice here, we're running low on ideas) expansion for BF.

I think there's a lot more semi-realistic stuff they could've touched on in their next expansion. Not to mention all of the real battles that were never included in the original game.

I do like the inclusion of an objective style gametype though. That would be nice if it works out.

OMG i agree too. Give us a break, yeah, maybe 3 expansions down the line go all ghey and come up with this stuff, but how about offering the basic WWII experience first, like a PANTHER tank, yeeesh. The thing i like about the notice is that there will be new gameplay modes for securing specific objectives. BF really needs some more team-based objective oriented gameplay. eg. instead of taking flags 1-4 and winning, you must blow the retaining wall with 4 expacks, then advance and take bunkers, then spawn there and try and take the internal camps, etc. Sounds familiar? RTCW maybe. Get it together BF you idiots. I am incredibly unexcited about this news.

Next online - Soldner, BF killer?
I think if they tied in taking flags + completing mission objectives, the game would really rock. Like, advance your way to locations x, y, and z, then once z is taken blow up the objective.

And also, lets hope they actually let you play ALL the maps with this new gameplay mode. It would be pretty lame if you could only play the 8 or so maps included in the expansion with this new gameplay mode.

Is it me, or does this look a bit cartoonish?

The only thing I've seen in the screenshots that really belong in this game are motorcycles. It otherwise seems pretty lame to me, and unless it turns out to be amazing from the start, I won't be shelling out more money for it. And what are the chances of it being amazing with the quality control of the original game? Nil, I say.

They should concentrate on making the original game (also RtR since it fits with the original game) better instead of concentrating on taking our money for what seems like questionable content. Make the game better with patches and some free content and more people would by the original game, too.
I wonder if they would get the hint if we mailed them a shoe box filled with human excrement and asked for a 20 dollars service charge for customer feedback.

I'm not very impressed. I guess if they wanted to create a "Battlefield 1942: Operation 'What If' ", maybe it would be a bit more accepted. I do know a lot of what we use today was being developed and considered back then or is a spin off of what we used back then... however much of the technology was not used in WWII. So, I find it pretty pointless myself.

Again, if they want to create a bunch of "What if the Nazi's won" maps depicting 1995 battle scenes from Richmond Virginia... vs 1944 scenes of the Normandy Invasion...

whatever, silly.
But seriously, I'm sure there are more than enough historical battles and historically accurate vehicles/weapons they could've included instead of getting all fantasy on us.

One semi-obscure one I can think of (although I don't know the name of the battle) is when the Canadian Army made the first beach landing/attack of the war. They got slaughtered in the end, but it still would've let them put in a new army (Canada) and have a map based on history.
I'd be happy with more "official" maps. Each one has it's own set of stratigic and challenging goals as it is. That's an easy way to keep the game "live". Look at how popular Aberdeen is.

it looks a bit ghey to be honest...
unless this expansion comes with some really great maps, i probably won't buy it... especially not for $20.

btw, i too agree with maher..

I am down with a boycott on this expansion. It looks like they are trying to completely alter the game instead of expanding on it. If they want a "new" game they should officially get Desert Combat built, much like how Sierra made Classic an official Tribes2 mod.

I think the leagues should turn to community built maps and if the maps are not good enough, get the map makers to build specific match style maps that we will endorse. IMO, some of those community maps on BF42.com are as good or better than the RtR maps.

The only thing I want to see out of EA/Dice right now is cheat prevention in a free patch.
Community maps almost never catch on unless there's an autodownloader. With the size of some of these custom maps (50+ megs for Iraq), I doubt an autodownloader would be viable.

Best way to spread the word would be for EA/Dice to feature a custom map on battlefield1942.com every so often.
My main complaint with the community made BF maps thus far is that they are typical user made maps with too much clutter. Mappers have habits of focusing on what they think is cool and ignoring actual playability. ABTF is a good example of a user made map that is overdone.

"Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII is being developed by Digital Illusions CANADA, a subsidiary of the original Battlefield 1942 Sweden based developer, Digital Illusions. "

I think we have our answer!!
I think they got jealous of the G.I. Joe mod, so they figured they would make it look cooler...
sorry folks but this looks like another extreamly gay way to get another $20 from us.

I think the only way they feel that people will "buy" an addon is if they add new vehicals to it. Pretty much ATM theres not much more that can be added. So they came up with these New ones.
They aren't getting my $20 I'm heading to planetside anyway.
I see it as: Battlefield 1942 was a great game to begin with. EA took advantage of this and decided to make an upgrade pretty damn early into the game. Seeing that this was an OK hit, they decided to kill the game and see if they could get any more money out of it before they abandone us and work on another game *cough TRIBES2 cough*
