A bf1942 anti-cheat prog in development...
It's going to be like WON... clients will require a *FREE* key to play on the network. The server will have to run a server executable, and the client will have to run the client executable. They will exchange data with one another.

No thanks...

If I have to choose between a ghey punkbuster and this game being ruined by cheats, I'll run the punkbuster. Hopefully it won't come to that but it is good to know that option will be open.
That would be up to the TWL admins to decide. IMO any anti-cheat software should be implemented by Dice.
punkbuster was great, until hackers came out with punkBusterBuster.

There is always a way around these 3rd party anti-cheat programs. It needs to be implemented into the netcode. All critical calculations need to be calculated by the server. Just like t2, unlike CS

Then we'll have to come out with punkbusterbusterbuster

year-2012
anticheat program in use- punkbusterbuster*10 to the 23rd
punkbuster has been higly successful for RtCW and SOF2. CS might be a different story. I would like to see punkbuster support BF42
Man, I'd sure hate to have to give up the MC addon.
Major Features in PunkBuster™
(some editions of PunkBuster™ do not have all of these features)

*Real-time scanning of memory by PB Client on players' computers searching for known hacks/cheats
*Throttled two-tiered background auto-update system using multiple Internet Master Servers to provide end-user security ensuring that no false or corrupted updates can be installed on players' computers
*Frequent status reports (highly encrypted) are sent to the PB Server by all players and the PB Server raises a violation when necessary which causes the offending player to be removed from the game and all other players are informed of the violation
*PB Admins can also manually remove players from the game for a specified number of minutes or permanently ban if desired
*PB Servers can optionally be configured to randomly check player settings looking for known exploits of the game engine
*PB Admins can request actual screenshot samples from specific players and/or can configure the PB Server to randomly grab screenshot samples from players during gameplay
*An optional "bad name" facility is provided so that PB Admins can prevent players from using offensive player names containing unwanted profanity or racial slurs
*Search functions are provided for PB Admins who wish to search player's keybindings and scripts for anything that may be known to exploit the game
*The PunkBuster™ Player Power facility can be configured to allow players to self-administer game servers when the Server Administrator is not present entirely without the need for passwords
*PB Servers have an optional built-in mini http web server interface that allows the game server to be remotely administered via a web browser from anywhere over the Internet

After seeing what punkbuster can do I feel like I'm being watched when playing those games now.
The hacks for battlefield are not that serious as of this moment. If they do get out of hand I believe a client side requirment should be put into place, but as of right now the cheats out there are basically harmless.
punkbuster for q3-based games has been succesful because its implemented into the game. For sof2 when i believe patch 1.2 came out pb was built in.
Exactly what cheats are getting rampant in BF42 at the moment? I figure ppl are using neon skins but what else is there? Is there a working no-fog hack or wall-hack?

I also would hate to give up MC but would if it meant I knew no one was using wallhacks, no-fog hacks etc.

damn cheaters :/

I would say that pink tanks, blue planes, infantry neon skins, grenade-expack-mine neon skins, all vehicles sonar, see through water, no-fog, & anti-recoil cheats are a serious problem. (Oh yeah, and they are all currently available for 1.31)

Use of any, or even all of these will give a person a decisive advantage. I feel I'm a good enough player to over come these on a pub. But how do you beat an entire team utilizing the above cheats. You dont.
That is why CAL has initiated the new pre-round screenshot rule. My hope is that TWL will do something to fwart the current breed of cheats as well.

EDIT...I apologize TWL for ever doubting you.

what is wrong w/ knowing everyone is playing fairly. I know for one that i want to see this implemented. Of course lame brains will crack it but, it just has to be updated. I know utPure keeps ut pretty clean.
some of those hacks you name are handy, but they do not make a novice player seem god-like. If you are new to the game and have all those hacks you will still suck. And if you are very skilled in the game you will have no trouble without them against skilled players using them.

I cant find that rule in the conquest ladder rules..Is that a rule now?

I think it would be very tuff to beat a descent team if they were all using those hacks and your team wasn't.

ahhh T2, MoH all over again

"I think it would be very tuff to beat a descent team if they were all using those hacks and your team wasn't."

This is very untrue, as we all know this is a game of mass teamwork and individual fighting skills(which most of these hacks aim to improve) have no serious outcome in competative matches between skilled clans. This game is more about timing and teamwork not individual skills, and any team perfecting these aspects will have a serious advantage over any cheats.

Imagine bocage, when the guy in the arty is using no fog and a wallhack. He knows your every move, he can hammer you from way out of sight, and not need a scout to expose himself. Of course that can be just practice, as I know within 4 shots I can put one on the tiger spawn from the sawmill. I didn't one day wake up and be able to do that. My team practiced, and practiced, and practiced. Wouldn't you feel cheated if some noob downloaded that "skill" instead of earned it like you did?

typically these 3rd party AC programs tend to cause more problems then they create early in their devolopment. When the program is stable, and it actually works, then it's something to discuss. Is that the case presently?
dont get me wrong, i think that these cheats are dumb and should not be used, I was just making the point that they do not alter game play so much as need for anti cheat programs. If something like auto aim or god mode comes along then we may need to implement some of these AC mods.
The sonar cheat is almost "god mode" and that by itself makes me want to ban cheaters.
i HATE the punk buster for RTCW because its incredibly hard to get it right.. have to install in certain order and such, and it kicks me from servers for no reason. ill be playing like normal (no cheats, i never cheat) and it would kick me saying i did something illegal.. FOR NO REASON... i dont want to see this happen to BF 1942.. it would ruin it
to be honest, if EA/Dice hadn't screwed up so much in making the game this wouldn't even be an issue.
I'm sorry but I do see these cheats as a huge advantage, sonar for all vehicles = no one hides from tanks anymore if the tank driver can just see when someone is near. No-fog = sniped from across the map while using AA or waiting for that next tank or plane to spawn or even while setting mines or hiding and defending a flag. Wall-hack = exactly what Capt.Morgan said, sit on a hill and arty spam spawn points with no help.

If your team is using wallhacks and mine isnt, you dont think your game will be easier when you know exactly where all my players are at any given moment? Knowing where my armor is wont give your team any advantage? Knowing most of my team is concentrating on taking one base or making a sneak attack on another base isnt gonna help your team?

Gimme a break

Id really like to see how much they can do without an SDK or help from the dev team
Whoa, I didn't even realize these cheats existed. Well I'm always for anti-cheat, as long as it works somewhat. It's hard to filter out cheaters from servers 100%, and this is something I'd like to see this software do if it can. Though any amount of removal of cheats is good, so I'd take any percentage really.

I've always found BF's gameplay to be rather fast, and I've felt it would be hard to tell whether someone has any form of hack. I can't tell whether a guy found me hiding because of a "wallhack" or whether he just looked there, or even whether my name was just showing through a wall. I don't think there's really a way to tell if someone is cheating, unless you get a screen of their game directly. So I'd love to see a program handle these hacks and auto-kick/ban them off the server.

Well, out of curiousity (only) I tried some of these cheats on my own server.

While they do give some advantage to the person using them, it really isn't enough to get your panties in a bunch. Sure, the no-fog thing can help out a lot, but the sonar thing is basically worthless except for finding someone who is hiding and contesting a flag, or trying to sneak up behind you. The removal of the tank HUD while inside a tank (like you can do w/o cheats as a pilot) is a very small advantage, and to be honest since they allow you to do it in planes, i'm still not quite sure why this isn't an in-game option for tanks either.

By and large, these cheats are petty, and while they may give some small advantage to someone and maybe useful in pubs, as has been already said this game is played on a team level in matches and therefore I really don't think that competeting teams really need to worry about it to the level of installing an anti-cheat program.

I'm sorry, but I just don't get it... People with an unfair advantage don't bother you, even if it seems petty?

AFter hours of play and practice, I think it is totally wrong that someone smacks me in the face and is dishonost like that.

Guess we just have to let it up to the admins, that's all.

Well, it's not that it doesn't bother me. It's just to me a question of whether the cure will be more inconvienant than the desease. And this is assuming, of course, the cure even works.

I guess I personally would rather play as is, and live with whatever cheats are out there and trust on the honor of teams in TWL, than become like CS and have to have a million different anti-cheat programs installed just to join a server, and then STILL have people cheat. To me, the cheats that i have seen just aren't worth that at this point.

[Team Horsemen]|[BF1942]|[T2]
i dont like cheaters and dont support them either

however, if it comes between anit-cheat softeware that works agiasnt cheaters AND non cheaters, or just living with it.. i have seen enough to just live with it...
i would ask TWL to use it just for the fact of Fair Play make the showing that TWL does not support hackers in the gamimg world. and then ban the players that are cought using the hacks . i know that many of the AC programs have had problems in the past but at least give them the chance to prove that this AC can work before killing it .
For the most part... there are very few.. if any cheats available for most current games. Saying so is just a way for sore losers to prevent a horrible record. Personally, I would just hand them a tissue and have them scamper off.

Well there is a big difference between trying the cheats yourself and other people using the cheats on you...you might have found those cheats petty when using them, but it gets alittle bit frostrating when you try to implement a tactic and get blown from accross the map, or spend 2 minutes to get undetected to a good hiding possition and suddently u find your self hammered by passing tanks and infantry that could never have noticed you without the cheats. It gets even worce when u see clans using this cheat.Plz excuse my english
In reply to using punkbuster for bf1942, I have a good friend who was totally banned from sof2 for a PunkBuster error, they admitted it was an error but would do nothing to see to it that his name was reinstated. I think the idea is a great idea, however if it's not balanced with accountability for any errors that occur, I can't agree with its usage in BF.
My 2 cents:

Before setting anything up as a standard, TWL has shown to EFFECTIVELY test patches/mods and such BEFORE they allow them in to league/ladder play. For the most part, this has been their trend. (applaud)

The cheats are there..and i am a FIRM believer they are being used .. however i refuse to be included in the ranks of those peeps that make a habbit of accusing clans of this. We go out and work hard EACH match..and for the most part..we can see WHY we were beat when it happens. There have been a couple matches where suspect issues have arisen that have caused us to question.. but we NEVER make it an issue. Those peeps wanna do it..they will do it.. its on them..to deal with it.. they can't affect our outlook.

To implement an anti-cheat is a must in my opinion.. This game is WIDE open for the cheats..far to easy to get them in, and keep them quiet. Dice/EA needs to take a close look at it..no doubt, but in the interm, it would be advantagous for the TWL admins to start testing out something that will cut down on the Client Side issues that plague.

all my opinions BTW.
