The developers of the Cryfield 1942 mod have posted an update:With the intention of recreating some of the most famous battles of World War 2 the team has been hard at work on several maps which include; "Omaha Beach", "Battle Of The Bzura" and of course "Iwo Jima", which is detailed below. The mod looks to give the player a full and authentic WW2 gameplay experience, with both the inclusion of many new assets, vehicles and weapons. Here is what the team has to say about the modification.
We have currently been working on a well known battle named Omaha Beach, A remake of Battlefield 1942's epic map, this map is concluded in two parts a map based on battlefield 1942's map: Omaha Beach, and another map based on the actual Omaha beach, all made to the correct sizes and terrain features. There will also be custom assets included in these maps and will be released shortly after the release of the map pack. This map pack is being released shortly as it has been finished.
We are currently also working on a very historically famous map named Iwo Jima, this being a map built upon real terrain features and realistic landmarks, including Mount Suribachi and the two kilometer no mans land dividing the two ends. There will also be custom assets included in these maps and will be released shortly after the release of the map.
Away from the pacific theater we are working on a map that is in final testing stages called The Defense Of Bzura unlike the other maps released this one is purely fiction and is made to show how the poorer armies of the second world war had to put up with what ever they had. This map will contain some custom weapons but like all they will be released after the final map has been completed.
Screenshots
Detailed below are four work in progress screenshots from the Iwo Jima map. The gameplay style will lean heavily on stealth and includes trenches, hidden sharpshooters, mine fields and a dark, ominous atmosphere. The real life battle at Iwo Jima, known as "Operation Detachment", revolved around a daring raid on the island made by the US marines in a bid to secure the bases and airstrips to stage strategic raids on the Japanese mainland.
