TWL Ladder/League Thought

Everyone,

I've been pondering this for a few days now. And in between this stupid Reformat/install of XP and my job. I've had some time to ponder TWL rules and such. Now all is good to go, but there's one thing that has piqued my curiousity.
With the addition of RtR into TWL. Adds a few new maps into our lineup, and also Gazala and El Alamein have been added as well. My concern is this, numbers in game. Now before the hooting and hollering starts, please finish reading this.

Basically alot of the RtR maps are more open and bigger. Sure Bocage is big for instance, but most of the play takes place in one small area, the middle. But alot of these RtR maps are open w/ routes going all the way around and diferent angles of attack. The same goes for Gazala and El Alamein.

Now I'm not asking for a HUGE change here. I was just wondering what everyone would think (as well as the TWL staff) w/ upping matches to 13vs13? Now just an extra person may not seem much. But in head-to-head maps. That one extra person can now assist in overloading an area.
Also being that just one person, I believe most teams can fill that one extra person. Instead of jumping to 14 like I was originally thinking. 13 will only open up 1 extra spot which many teams can easily fill.

Now on to the fun part. Thoughts and ideas:
I realize I will get positive and negative responses in regards to this. My only request is to keep it civil. If you don't like the change, please state some reasons. Not the simple, "This is a gay idea, go die" comments. If I'd wanted those I'd go suggest changing the player limits in T2 Classic. If you support this idea, list some other points I may have missed or things you see as positive.

If this brings out a positive responses and not alot of negative. I would like the TWL BF admins to maybe do a founders vote or look into this issue.

Well thanks for reading. And please keep criticisms on a more respectful level.

Thank you.

I love the idea of larger scale battles. 13v13 or 14v14 would be cool!
Thing you got to consider here is servers and the number of people they can host. I think most clan servers are around 24/25 people. The ones running larger servers typically are not clan servers though some are. Nonetheless, its a consideration.

Personally, I think team sizes should be based upon the map. For example, 10v10 would be fine on bocage but 10v10 in Kharkov or El Alamein bites ass since you cannot utilize everything the maps offer. There should be three levels. Large scale maps should be 14v14 (ex: rtr maps, El Alamein), medium scale maps should be 12v12 (ex: Kharkov, Tubrok), 10v10 for small scale maps (ex: Stalingrad, Berlin). This way it prevents clutter on the small maps and gives a team a break from stretching to get the required number of players of the large maps.

That's my 2 cents.
You can play 13-13 14-14 ??-?? anytime you want As long as both teams agree on it.

was AFK.. but he said what i'd say. :P

I am gonna comment only because we are going to rejoin for season #2.

While I personally am all for 13v13 or 14v14, you have to take into account the numbers of clans with server's out there that can support that number. 13v13 for example, the config would have to be set for 28 players, for admin spectators and such.. For clans that rent, that could be an extra $40-80 dollars.. We do not rent, and luckily have access to a T1, and while we HAVE ran 28 players, 26 is about the limit for guaranteed smooth play.

As far as the RtR map's, we have played/scrimmed Salerno 5 times, Cassino in matches and scrims 4 times, and Husky in 3 scrims for our upcoming match with 2 more to go. I just wanted to let you know my present experience on those maps, and 12v12 is actually perfect size. The only map from my reckoning that would require more players would be baytown, which hopefully would not be included due to the massive size of it.

As for Gazala and El Alamein, once you gain air superiority, how many guys really need to sit at a flag and stare at the sky? Same really goes for Salerno and Anzio and Croce for RtR.

If you want to do this for the ladder only, by all means go ahead, since we plan on participating in the league.
i don't see a problem other than the already mentioned server issue for having 13v13 or 14v14.

Air superiority isnt as grand in 1.31 and it is in 1.2 since mounted machine guns can take out smaller planes plenty quick. Even AA are still good despite the reduced damage. Not to mention plane to plane battles also seem to be over much quicker. Air teams will need to learn the ground battle for once. Therefore team sizes for maps like Gazala and El Alamein need to be considered, but I can deal with it however its ruled.
Air Superority is much more then being able to bomb armor with "impunity". If I know that 3 tanks are moving up to point A long before they get there. I can suicide and make adjustments to the number of defenders, and their classes to deal with the incoming threat. That is part of the strategical aspect of the game that gets lost the larger the teams get made.
I have always liked to play games with more players. More players always means more fun (when you can get them to all show up). My team has a pretty big roster and I doubt I would have any problem getting 13 or 14 guys to matches but I am happy with 12. It is a good number.

If we were to make a change, I would only do it in the League, leave the ladder 12v12. I think most of the serious teams are in the league anyway and those are the teams that are most capable of getting more players. Also, with the league playing every thursday, I have found it easier to get my guys to commit to that time, unlike the ladder where times tend to change from week to week.

I still think that the ladder should change to the one map format, but it could find other ways to be different from the league, such as in player numbers or time limits or both?
well i for one am 100% in support of the idea of increasing the # of players...

a lot of maps just aren't meant to be 12 vs 12 with proper tactics being used.

i don't think the server is that big of an issue considering the fact that most clans have 30 player servers from what i have seen, and since this seems to be a mature community i'm sure that if 2 clans meet that only have 24 player servers, then another clan can loan them their server for the match...

simply say something like this in the rules:

"all matches will be 14 vs 14 provided there is an available 30 player server to be used... if not then clans can roll back to 13 or 12 vs the same."

i personally think there shouldn't be any issues with that.

what does everyone else think?
