Season 1 - the wind down

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2003-05-22 · 25 posts
Ok folks week 8 is up and ready.

This is the final week of the Regular season before Playoffs begin. Once all results for that week are reported and my DC's - Xeno and Evil - have notified me that their conferences are finalized we'll announce the Playoff contenders.

Good luck!

And once the regular season winds up, I would like to ask the captains of the teams not advancing to email myself, ICRED, EvilNapkin and Xeno their thoughts on the league. Once the entire season is over then I will ask the same of the teams that made it to the playoffs and further.

Maybe. We feel we have to do something with RtR because of its populatiry. The 1.3 patch is still a problem, but RtR for fun would be a great thing to get going.

Standard NFL style playoff tournament. I am not sure how the seeding will work yet, thats up to Reign.

Canadian Army Group not to be scheduled for a week 8 match?
i suggest we use the rtr maps for preseason. This way we can get actual match play.. and feed back from teams. without it effecting rankings in anyway
so that means you are going to 1.3 for season 2, regardless of a fix ?

I'm sure DICE has figured out they've screwed the pooch lately. Game of the year, and yet you turned that piece of junk 1.3 ONE DAY before you release the next to worthless 20 dollar RTR.

I cannot express how disappointed I am in RTR. I pray few ladders will incorporate them. Or at least I hope there will be very few RTR maps, as I just refuse to play them. They're insanely imbalanced, are almost exclusively plane duel maps and the new so called "tanks" are hardly that. Planes were already too powerful in the basic game, but RTR has turned them into Nuclear Warhead carrying machines.

This has been my daily catharsis for the damage RTR and 1.3 patch has done to my sanity.

How can I love the basic game so much, but despise everything else they've produced? Therapy please! :-)

Looks to be that way. With the record you have you look to be in the playoffs chief.

And the seeding process will be as follows:
top 2 teams from each division (Alpha 1 vs Beta 2; Beta 1 vs Alpha 2 - for both Conferences) will play each other. This will run 2 weeks. The "survivors" (Conference champs) will then move on to the finals.

As for RTR and League:
Here's a suggestion -
How bout an "offseason" with nothing but the RtR maps? I'd hate to toss them into Preseason and people get disillusioned by the usage of the maps period. Then we can get adequate feedback from the League teams on their inclination for being League maps.

The top 4 teams from each Conference? I thought the rules said the top 8 teams from each Conference?

The American Conference will take the 4 top teams in its Alpha Division and the 4 top teams from its Beta Division = 8 teams.

The National Conference will take the 4 top teams in its Alpha Division and the 4 top teams from its Beta Division = 8 teams.

That was a typo that was never caught apparently.
Oy - my apologies.

The map schedule is listed at 3 weeks so it would suffice to say to say that the top 8 from each conference would take much longer.

I was never very good with these playoff scenarios. But if the top 4 teams of each conference are going to the playoffs and there is only one week left...

In the American Conference if Hells Katz Squad and |NERV| both win then the last spot will be a tie between |NERV| and the winner of the Kindread and Warsaw match. How will this be worked out? A tiebreaker of some sort or a one game playoff for the spot in the playoffs?

haven't all teams played each other in conference? if so there's your tiebreaker

hmm, well we played |NERV| but I was thinking it was on the ladder and since I can't find our league history anywhere...

But since it doesn't show a match with |NERV| in our ladder history I will assume it was a league match and that answers my question. However, looking at Warsaw's history it looks like they haven't played |NERV| though so assuming they beat us and |NERV| wins its still an unsolved equation. I guess half-solved is more like it.

Problem INCOMING! Lol
ok, tonight we won our match Vs CAG making them 5-1. Ok, heres the brakedown thats going to happen in our division.

1.CAG 5-1
2.|NERV| 5-1 (though this is kind of up in the air ) Given that the mythical hord hasnt shown up for there last few league matchs ..and they have ended in forfit..
3. the winner of the kin vs Warsaw match. making that team 5-1
anyone not able to see we have a 3 way tie for #1 in our division Incoming

Just someting to think about.

Not all of the teams have played each other... SiS seems to be new to our conference and for some reason TD has been taken out (I musta missed that). Also, that Omaha week that we missed meant that other teams did not get to officially square off against each other.

I thought we were going to get that week added on to bring us all up to 8 weeks again?!?

I see more problems in our conference but maybe it needs a new thread.
Here is also another problem. Some of the teams have been getting forfeit wins but they haven’t been earned them as two won rounds. Prime example being the last three teams that played MH (Kin, Warsaw and DLR) where none of us got to add two rounds to our "rounds won" category. In fairness, the RW column should equal 2x the W category so that teams are not penalized for having their opponent not show up (and other mathmatical errors can also be corrected).

/sidenote
I'm thinking some code needs to be fixed in the match reporting system. Maybe instead of having input fields you can just have a radial buttons or check boxes reporting. Also, we need to make sure RW and RL isn't affected by matches that aren't counted towards the league play.

The Standings just looking at the Beta Division in the American Conference: If Kin wins, we take 1st and NERV & CAG are put into a tie. If Kin loses, Warsaw, NERV and CAG are put into a 3-way tie where none of them have played each other.

This means that these teams would drop to breaking the tie by the Round Win Differential. IMO after looking at each of their records, they would all be tied because a forfeit should give you 2 RW, putting them all at 10RW, and all of them currently have 3 RL.

Thus they would have to have their ties broken by “Strength of Schedule”. I honestly don’t like the sounds of that and after looking at all three of their schedules, I would say that you would still have a tie. The only tie breaker would be for Warsaw to beat Kin since Kin beat the other two, so Warsaw would take first and that would still leave NERV & CAG in a deadlock for second.

At this point, the only way to break it would be to set up more matches. CAG & NERV hasn't played each other in league play because the Omaha week didn’t count. So from what I see, CAG and NERV are going to end up needing a tie-breaker. The only scenario where the tie-breaker won't be very important is if Warsaw only beats Kin 2-1, thus knocking them out of the "Round Win Differential". Still, in this case the tie-breaker would be needed to decide which team was #1 and which was #2.

Just want to point out that CkB will be giving its playoff spot to the 3rd place team in the National Alpha division. We feel we did not earn the #2 spot in the Nat/Beta and only retain the position because of a division shift.

Well if we had known it was gonna cause this much trouble, we wouldn't of let Kin win last night

-CAG|Puppet
let?
lol

well it works out for us We win we get into the playoffs, we lose we are out. It also kinda works out for Warsaw because if they win completely they are in, if they lose or go to OT they are out.
