Controlling a Plane

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2003-03-11 · 13 posts
I like to think I am a fairly good pilot but I have noticed over time I get into a dog fight with someone and their plane seems to turn on a dime.

Is this a tweak like the FOV or is it the joystick/controller they are using? I have the sensitivity turned up as high as it will go but I would like to have a plane with a little more sensitivity. Is there a way people are getting the plane more sensitive?

Thanks in advance

Some planes, the corsair most notably, will slow down considerably if you pull it into a tight turn.

Yeah, Gatsu hit the nail on the head...The Zeros turn radius is greater then all planes in tihs game....But then again the Zero was probably the most predominate plane in WW2...Its really the only plane that doesnt suffer from speed loss on tight turns....I think the Yak is also pretty stable in tight turns also...It pretty much just depends on what plane your in...Frag On..

i like planes :>
I don't know this for a fact but my observations (at least while playing Coral Sea) are that while the Zero is somewhat more maneuverable than the Corsair, the Corsair is just a hair faster and can take a bit more damage than a Zero...which would be pretty accurate historically.

If yer in a Corsair yer best bet is to attack a Zero by making long slashing attacks, preferably from a superior altitude and using the increased speed while diving to make your attack and your getaway. The Zero's best best is to maneuver onto a Corsair's tail...and stay there.

Course the best tactic is to learn how to shoot the deflection angle correctly. I can't tell you how many pubs have called me a cheater. I've even been accused of using a bullet hack.

It's actually a joke with me and a few buds. Someone calls us a cheat and we just run with it. Currently, I'm telling people my teamies are using the "Silver Bullet" cheat. When they ask what that is I tell them we're not actually hitting them with dinky little bullets...but with full cans of cold lite beer.

The very existence of flame throwers proves that sometime, somewhere, someone said, "You know, I wanna set those people over there on fire. But I'm just not close enough to get the job done".
LMFAO....that is all i can say about that Euro..

If yer flying with a keybd and mouse, you'll get circles run around you by a pilot with a joystick. While there are different handling characteristics of each plane, the #1 thing you can do to level the playing field is to go buy a joystick

P-51 > all other planes.
I'm with Mav on that one

I use a joystick. It just seems even with the same plane as others some can turn on a dime and was just thinking it maybe a tweak like the FOV is.

my joystick has the twist-the-handle rudder controls, and early on when i was flying with it i accidentally twisted the rudder when i turned and found that it makes for a quicker turn
Man, now you let the cat out of the bag!

You have to use the rudder in a turn...to do otherwise is to is to become someone else's bitch in the air.

Additionally, when looking for an air to air engagement, you ALWAYS want to start from a high altitude. Diving out of altitude will give you speed, and thusly maneauverability. The guy climbing to meet you (if he even sees you) will be handling like a slug, in a Zero/Stang/whatever.

Go look up some basic fighter maneauvers online, you can learn a thing or two from those Air Force pukes that figured it out the hard way (or Navy too, I suppose...).

Edit: Study this link. http://www.aggressor39.org/index.asp?pageid=BFM_MANEUVERS

Nothing anyone pulls online in a BF1942 aircraft is more complicated the BFM stuff. Altitude, speed, surprise, and proper lead/shot deflection are all you need. Low, slow, pants around your ankles and bad aim are going to get you killed/parachuting every time.
