Inside Vehicle's + FOV

Before I ask my question I want to ask, I'll explain to anyone who wants it how to change your FOV:

go to your VideoDefault.con file (located in "BattleField 1942/mods/bf1942/settings")

edit the line: render.fieldOfView 1

The number is your field of view, most people like to make their field of view larger. Try 1.4 or 1.5

Now for my question. It appears the view inside of vehicles, such as tank/apc/artillery, are just pictures that overylay your view, and do not account for FOV. Therefore the view is kind of odd when you have changed your FOV, is there some way to just take away that overlay? Like when you're in a plane, and press inside view twice, you're only left with a targeting reticle.

I'm sure you could just hack it or cheat your way out of those images so you'd have a full screen view. Prob just make the texture transparent. I'm sure someone has it done and uses it during matches, a 100% clear view while in tank. Kinda sucks if you think about it.

I like the 1.4 setting best, feels faster while running. That 1.5 is just too wide and when in vehicle is too wierd to look at, 1.4 is better.
Why cant you play the game the way it was meant to be played ? this is how cheats start. Gay bastids..

It's just a matter of preference...FOV is something that a lot of people prefer to change in any game they play. Some people like it, others prefer the default.

If I wanted to play all games "the way they were meant to be played" I'd only buy console games. But no, one of the main reasons I own very few console games is because I love the customizability (not to be read as cheats) of PC games. I'm willing to risk a few cheaters here and there for this aspect of PC gaming. If you're not willing to risk that...tough shit.

Hehehe arqos. Big leap from a FOV tweak to a cheat, but I hear ya. Normally, a 90 degree FOV (standard on most shooters) is fine for me, but I swear BF1942 is like 80 degrees by default. Real narrow.

Not that Im encouraging this kind of tweak

going from CS's 110/120 FOV to MOH's 90 FOV sucked. '42's sucks too, but i'm used to it from MOH, and i'm sorry but editing files is cheating imo

The files/entries being edited are just game options. If you look at any of the configuration files you'll see plenty of entries you'll recognize from the options menu. If it was cheating why wouldn't they just hardcode the FOV rather than make it a modifiable config entry?

I like 100+ FOV cause I like the depth that is added to the game. In T2, Wolfenstein, and BF the default FOV hurts my eyes and makes the game seem so 'depth-preceptionless' (if that's a word ). But once I up my FOV a bit, I get some depth perception and the game is more enjoyable for myself.

This is very similar to how the view distance config was changed in 1.1. People didnt know it was illegal, and changed it to 200 percent so they could see further, thinking it was a game option because you could edit it in game. I thought to myself that this was legal as well till i saw some posts on it.

Now he wants to take the inside of the tank picture out to have a full view from inside a vehicle. Im sorry but thats cheating. The more we start messing around with the game the more people will find new tweaks and methods of gaining an advantage. This is how cheats first start out. Just leave the game alone. Blood patch is the only thing i would say is ok.

Word to big bird on that one Arqos....

People Fear my L337 running away skills...hahahahahaha...!!!
I don't see a problem with fiddling with settings...for single player or pubbing, of course. Matches should run with 'stock' copies of the game.

Unfortunately, EA/DICE left out any way to ensure people didn't have changed settings or many other hacks/cheats/changes installed.

I think it was Duke Nukem 3D that you *had* to have the same exact version to play, and any change wouldn't let players play...but that was back in the day of 1 on 1 only play Ahh...Duke Nukem 3D

Sorry, where was I? I'd like to see a TWL statement to the effect of "For TWL competition, X Y and Z will not be changed. No new skins, no mods, no nuthin (to prevent those that like to make uniforms day-glo orange)" Of course it would have to be on each player's honor, since there is NO way to prevent it.

So this first thing you mentioned, since they decided it was a cheat they took away the ability to change it? Ok...so why haven't they done that for FOV if that's a cheat?

As for removing the tank view, if you can make me something that fits my current FOV, then I'll use that instead of just trying to remove it. It's not like I'm gonna gain an edge over you anyways. It isn't gonna make me magically be able to hit anything I see on the playfield. I only want it removed for convenience. I hardly ever even use the 1st person view anyways, until I actually have a target to hit, in which case, I already know of all my surroundings anyways.

So is it cheating to utilize the ability to remove the cockpit from the 1st person view of the plane?

All I'm saying is that this is my preferred way of playing. The only advantage it gives me is more comfortability with the way the game flows. Everyone else can also tailor these settings to their desire. I even told you how....

If I wanted to make sure no one was cheating, and play a game in stock condition, I'd go buy a PS2 and SOCOM. If that's what you want, then do the same, because you're not gonna convince me and hundreds of others to play the game stock. Especially not when the default FOV on most games give us motion sickness.

Ok... first off I wouldn't exactly call this a cheat it's located in a config file for a reason. If the Game developers didn't want you to mess with these settings they could easily hard code or encrypt this config... Now I am usually a game purist about this stuff but damn you people take it to a whole new level... What's next? Is a GeForce FX a cheat? Or how about all those bastards that tweak there graphics drivers to get better performance. OMFG, don't let me get started on those optical mice fags. Now on to Iced's question regarding the Tank FOV problem, try locating the image for the Tank interior. Rename that to something else and then load up your image editor(PSP etc.) On the empty pallet save the image as the same name and type of the old Tank interior. That should have the proper formating to not throw an exception... depending on how the game is actually implementing the Tank interior view. Post a reply if it works.
