make it so that when TD is off players from your own team cant kill you with concussion...IE grenades or Exp packs...

either take away the concussion or make whover dies as a result to an explosive concussion gets a proper TK...

BF 1942 has the worst online community with regards to greifers i have ever seen...
and WTH is a greifer?

I agree, I've never had to deal with tk'ers in any game like a bf1942 pub. But then again, thats why I avoid pubs like the plague

It would seem to me that any game which wants to be a serious competitor in the MP arena needs to have the following features.

- Demos
- User friendly admin features
- Matchmode features
- Server logging
- Voicecom

I don't know why these aren't standard features for any new online FPS.

It worked in Counter-Strike fine, even on pubs. As long as there is a mute feature I don't see what the problem could be.

Agreed, ingame voice comms is a waste of Dev time. Just use any of the great solutions available outside of the game (TS2, GV, RW, etc.). The one that is really missing is:

- Linux server!!!!!!

I don't know why they don't just start development on a linux server first and then build the MS server after...
I want to play this game in windowed mode damnit! I hate playing games in full screen mode...

yay! sig works!

Half-Life voice comm is craptastic :/

But yes, we need:
Demos!!!!!!
Proper spectating features (free-team specs as well as teamed specs that are forced to watch their own team)
An in-game server admin and player voting GUI

Matchmode features... I think they're pretty good right now. If you add in the voting, teams can just start matches themselves by voting for admin.restartmap commands.
I miss the old Tribes 1 match mode where you could actually assign a player to a team based on their tag. Or maybe that was just a Shifter thing...
If anyone has played Tribes2 you know what I mean... We should have a built-in buddylist and a built-in Chatroom... That would make the community much better than it is now. Hopefully Road to Rome will include this...
Well problem is, most of the serious teams already have an IRC server channel registered... and they arent going to 'go for' anything else haha. We, as a community, need to find our own way of making the 'community' work. Cant rely on game devs to hold our hand on that too

Another thing I don't see here is when you kill people on the top floor of a building (Stalingrad comes immediately to mind) their weapons fall all the way to the bottom floor. So if you kill a medic and you took some damage you can't pick up their pack.

Also when you pick up a gun it goes through the motion of putting in the clip. But if that clip was empty when you picked it up you then have to reload it -again-.

Most importantly though - Fix the damn chat lag! Nothing worse than hearing a friend's comments 2 maps later than when he typed it.

How do you get it into windowed mode!!?!!

*edit - after much searching I finally found out how to play in windowed mode, = D

If anyone else wants this, go to your VideoDefault.con file (located in "BattleField 1942/mods/bf1942/settings"), and edit the line renderer.setFullScreen 1 simply make the 1 a 0, start up the game, and it will be in windowed mode!

Remember, the game gui runs at a different resolution then the actual game.

Thought of this while playing on pubs tonight and was curious how many of you would agree with it. I would like a server option that if enabled would automatically switch everyone to the other team in between rounds.

To see how the winning team fares on the other side? Never thought of that, seems like a pretty good idea...

I would want that as a feature of Match mode. I also think a team balancing option should be put into the server. I find that the Allies team often become stacked because new players joining the server automatically end up on Allies. Either that or n00b tards like to change to the winning team even if the teams are already unbalanced.

- Demos
- User friendly admin features
- Matchmode features
-- Auto team flip between rounds
-- Team balance on joins
-- Prevent unbalanced team changes
- Server logging
- Linux server

The "G" key is another alternative. Although I give out the Alt-F4 advice in '42 regularly.

Hey Euroranger, do you like pie?

I like pie.

PIE!

Pie gooood. (Opium better )

Listen, since this is referencing a suggestion for a new patch lemme cut and paste something I just dropped on another thread.

Y'know...reading the mod details on this patch brought an old issue back to mind.

Why the hell don't they limit the availability of parachutes to those people who fly airplanes? I mean, it's not like the guy who runs off the landing craft with a BAR in his mitt is gonna be toting around a parachute. Better yet, they ought to add an entirely new class of player: PILOT.

PILOT would be armed much like the pilot in RvS (Raven Shield) is armed: sidearm, knife, a few grenades...and that's it. No more of this bullshit of some smacktard grabbing a fookin' plane, flying it over to the other guy's carrier and jumping out with a freakin' bazooka or assault rifle (as if you could fit that into the cockpit of a fighter).

It'd cut down on dumb shits using fighters and bombers as personal taxi services, that's for damned sure. Of course, anyone other than the pilot could be appropriately armed...but that would mean that for a smacktard to bail out over yer position with a real wep...he'd have to have a pilot buddy agree to take him there.

So far, I think I have yet to see a smacktard with a friend...they're all pretty much loner losers.

Well?

I dunno, I don't see how the pilot class could add a lot to the gameplay overall, especially since not every map has airplanes. The class I'd like to see is mortar armed soldier. Nearly every infantry company in every army in World War II had a mortar squad. I could see it being useful on just about every map. The size of mortar explosion being less than the artillery but larger than the grenade.

Also, the guy manning the MG on top of the tank should be able to duck inside!
After a brief discussion with a teammate I want to revise my suggestion. How about instead of a PILOT class...you simply lose yer main wep when you get into a plane? Swap yer big gun for a chute? Either that, or you get a choice. You can have one or the other...but not both.

This isn't something that would particularly affect match play here very much...but I do maybe 5% of my play as matches. The other 95% I spend staying pissed at tards on pub servers doing stoopid things.

Like using airplanes as their personal taxis.
