questions on resolutions

i think i've seen threads on this before...but i can't seem to find them. in battlefield, is it possible for me to run the game @ 1280x1024? and if so, how do i go about doing this?


i remember ppl saying they play @ 1600x1200 so i'm hoping this is possible. thx.

go to your vid card setting and turn the setting up in there and then go in to bf and change the res and it should work but kills your fps unless you have a leet pc. if you need to know how to get in your vid cards settings ask and i will tell.

BF42 doesn't officially support higher resolutions like 1280x1024. There
is a way to force it though.

First go to:
CProgram Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942Settings\videodefault.con

Change the line:
renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0

To this:
renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1

Then go to:
CProgram Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings

Edit the following files:
video.con
videocustom.con

every time you see:
game.setDisplayMode 1024 768 32 85

edit it to whatever you like in this format:
game.setDisplayMode x=res, y=res, colordepth, refreshrate

e.g. game.setDisplayMode 1280 1024 32 75

Then set both files to read-only,
(if you don't want the settings getting changed).

uhh don't try 1280x1024. it looks horrific. 1600x1200 is ok but prolly cauz its a smooth transition from 1024x768

I've created multiple profiles depending on what I'm doing. for pubbing, everything maxed at that resolution between 1280 and 1024, 11sometin.

for infantry, i have everything set to low except sound and 100% view distance. it's at 800x600. compared to what I'm use to, the enemy is a much bigger target. You can also see inside buildings and through bushes better, as well as see mines alot easier on most turf.

For the air, same thing, just up the resolution so you can see more of the horizon, but keep the settings low because you can see infantry alot better at the lower resolutions. No way in hell i'd play at 1600x. tiny infantry.

When I played I used 800x640, 60% texture, 100% view distance, and everything else on low. If you don't care about what the game looks like those are the best settings. Also, make sure to use a hot pink crosshair, they're the best.

orange is the only crosshair colour ill ever use.

So true. It also makes the dot in the middle off-center and it bugs the shit out of me. 800x600 for life.
