Based on several disputes and informal complaints that have been brought to my attention, the purpose of this notice is to formalize procedures surrounding some common problems that occur during the scheduling and playing of matches.
First, although this is a North American ladder (thus the NA designation) we have an active cadre of European players and our ladder is enriched by their participation. However, it is still necessary that a notation of the date and time (expressed in GMT or any other time zone) needs to be recorded in the Match Comms so that the Ladder Administrator can track the match progress properly. You can complete your negotiations in X-Fire or MSN Messenger, but one party, at least, needs to record your decision in match comms or state that an agreement cannot be reached. It is also necessary that the defender accept the match by offering two dates and times from the listings offered by the GUI and that the attacking party lock the acceptance by confirming one of the offered dates and times ---- even though this is not the date/time you both intend to play the match. If either of you does not do this, the TWL GUI prompts the Ladder Administrator to issue a forfeit against one of the parties.
Secondly, it has always been my policy to encourage flexibility in permitting re-scheduling of matches where one party fails to appear or is unable to appear for a match. However, in a similar vein to what I stated above, it is necessary to record the decision as to whether the match is to be rescheduled along with the new date/time.
Finally, Gamespy has been a constant thorn in our sides in getting matches played. The slightest problem with a computer or an internet connection seems to destabilize the game and/or cause lock-ups or lost connections. If this happens during a match, the parties have two choices, a dispute can be submitted to the Ladder Administrator or, and preferably, the parties can re-start and replay the game. In the event that the parties re-start the game, no condition is to be changed from the original aborted game. The game is to be replayed exactly as it originally began, with each player using the same units, upgraded to the same levels as the original game. The game is to be played on the same map with each player/team on the same side of the map as in the original game. In team matches, players are to attempt to join the game room in the same order as in the original unless it is determined that the problem is with the original host, in which case this cannot be accomplished. If someone is in doubt as to their original configuration, take a moment before the new match starts to inspect the log file of the previous game (it is recorded when the game commences and regardless of whether it finishes) and insure that faction, unit, and upgrade selections are the same as in the aborted game.
