Well, the outcome was not quite what we expected....we one the first round, but lost the second round

Due to some miscommunication, we were under the impression the only game being played was AA. Imagine our surprise when we found out AA was one of three games they had to play. The had to play one X-Box gae, one PC game, and then play AA.

They were severly handicapped by the fact that most hadn't heard of the x-box games, let alone have played them. The other PC game was UT2k3. And even though the other teams said they didn't play UT23K they sure knew alot about the moves and weapons :
The scoring system was more than a little confusing. You got points for each game and bonus points for having the overall MVP.

So, I will give you a quick rundown on what happened:

1st game- Soul Caliber on X-box. We got spanked, but not bad by Team Armed and Hammered. Score 1-0.
2nd Game- UT2k3, Team Warfare got spanked and spanked hard.
Score 3-0
3rd Game- AA. Not sure where to start.

First, the VR pod has no keyboard, monitor, or mouse. The controls were either buttons on the side of the gun you used or on what looked like a TV remote control they also had. And they viewed through VR gogles. So everything they were used to was gone. The map was Combat Search and Rescue. They got a 20 minute practice seesion, but that was spent trying to get familiar with the pod. Right now we can't get into details of the map or what its like. I can say that it wasn't played normally. The Opfor was not teh otehr team, but G4 staff. And through good teamwork, communication and planning, they destroyed the OpFor. And they were out numbered 4v8 Add to that the fact that NATO_NaphcoN was given MVP for a stunning 13 second KO in teh X-box, we ended up winning on points. Boy,w as the other team PISSED OFF....

Okay, next round was against Team Gazoo. Same thing- 1 x-box, 1 pc, then AA. This time x-box was FZero. Spanky Spanky.
Score 1-0 Team Gazoo.

Game #2- again UT2k3. They held their own this time. There were two long ass overtime rounds...
Score 3-0 Team Gazoo.

Game #3- Hospital rescue. Due to the fact that we were running WAYYYY behind the schedule, they didn't get a practice round. When the game started theywee on a map they had never seen before. And 2:30 seconds into the game a major mishap occured that left the BBR guys dead. So, it was looking real bad. ]rpe[ins0mniak and NATO_NaphcoN were left in a 2v8 situation with no idea what the map was like. At that point I was off to the side watching them on the monitors with the script writer. The general feeling from everyone, including me, was that they we screwed.

Fast forward to the 9:00 minute mark....

Not only had they managed to stay alive, theya lso managed to damn near wipe out the OpFor AND were on their way to completeing the mission. The group at the monitor was up to 9 and we were all glued to the monitor.

Yes, over all they lost. But, they went their to play AA. Not only did they dominate AA, but they were complimented by everyone their.Including the Special Forces rep that was there.

So, with that-

I can only say this- THEY KICKED ASS!!!!

On the second map ]rpe[ins0mniak and NATO_NaphcoN played some of the best AA I have ever seen. And that is the truth. Everyone was totally blown away with the performance. The communication was excellent, they worked together, covered each other, everything was text book perfect. even to the point that ins0mniak chased an OpFor right into the waiting barrle of NaphcoN.

And the first match was just as good. All four of them took the OpFor totally by surprise by using a plan of action that was opposite of what the OpFor expected. And OpFor got caught with their pants down, to the tune of 8 unanswered kills.

Regardless of the outcome, they did what they set out to do. They played AA the way they felt it should be played and proved to ALOT of folks that an organized team will KICK YOUR ASS!!!

To the members of 'Team Warfare'-

Thank you. Youo guys did above and beyond anything I hoped for. Both your attitude and gameplay was excellent. Communication between you was great. Short, clear, and to the point. You guys even impressed the hell out of the VR people.

And special kudos to ins0mniak. As the team leader you impressed the hell out of everyone. You made excellent choices and your planning was great. You knew the tactics they were looking for and excuted them perfectly.

Again, thanks to all of you, you represented the name 'Team Warfare' far better than I could expect.

About the tape-

One of the G4 folks is going to take a copy of teh show and upload it to his website and theya re going to allow us to download it. Due to the size, and the fact I could care less about the other two games, I will probably edit out all but the AA portions and make it available in our downloads area. But, that probably won't happen tilla fter next Monday when it airs.

And I urge all of you to download it and watch it. You will see AA at its best. These guys went to great lengths studying actaul tactics and planning prior to going. Even though they had no clue what the maps were going to be like, they utilized what they learned to overcome the lack of intel. I'm still amazed at the second map. There was no luck involved in that one. They kicked ass, plain and simple. IT was sweet guys, absolutely sweet.

Well Done!
actually psi, 2nd episode UT2k3 was 2-1.

and all console games were played on GameCube. and our squad consisted of no real console gamers other than myself.

but like psi said, we went into this being told all we're playing is AA. everything else was just by surprise.

Nice work, Team Warfare. So tell us about the VR pods. Was it very realistic as far as holding an actual VR rifle and using your entire human peripheral vision instead of a monitor? And what's up with that remote control item? Did you just ignore that entirely or were you forced to use it for certain actions?
GJ team
VR pods werent intended for AA. so it was rather funky. they did say they were making a gun soley for AA. the VR helmets itself, well there was a good and a downside to it.

using your head to turn, well it was interesting. because you had to turn 360 degrees to turn 360 degrees. that just took getting used to. what was a really neat feature, if you tilted your head left and right, it recognized that as leaning around a corner. but the thing with this, you could progressively lean around a corner, instead of going all the way left or right.

few downsides were it took a while to get used to. few guys on the other team were near throwing up, and one actually did. also the major downside was, they were sync'd up in order to use iron sights. because there are two images in the vr helmet, one for the left eye one for the right, you came out with one messed up iron sights. so that put us at a major disadvantage. also the vr pods were really pixelated, and it was hard to make out further objects.

but what was really nice was that everything was 3D. the trees, rocks, everything. you had a good sense of distance.

the gun wasnt made for AA, and button combinations which were a bitch were used for basic commands. double tap this button to reload, hold for 2 seconds to change rate of fire, really confusing stuff. the most confusing was to hold all 3 buttons on the gun to swap weapons. so in order to get to a flash bang, we'd have to press all 3 buttons about 3 times.

the remote control, was basically a modified tv remote designed to work with the system. that was added last second to put what basic keybinds we needed. so in order to crouch or go prone, we had to get one hand off the gun to click on the remote on our waist. which was really difficult to pull off.

outside of the difficulties, i was amazed at how well myself and naphcon completed the hospital rescue, down 2 men at the start. honestly, it was an out of body experience. i wasnt even thinking. all i saw was 2 guys go down, and keep in mind we had no death messages throughout this whole thing. so i had to ask if we lost friendlies, apparently we did. i heard the host saying it was all over, saying that we were gonna get swept out of the show. well that sure as hell pissed me off. so naphcon and i put up a hell of a show, didnt even panic. just went ahead and showed em how its supposed to be done.

that was seriously, the most realistic experience in AA i have ever played. only because, we went in with a briefing, and a overhead map is all we got to see. sort of like a satellite intelligence. we had no death messages at all. and could barely see our ammocount on the vr helmet. we had a rough idea where the objectives were, but no exact location. it seriously put us in a tough position, but a realistic one as well. so as team leader, i put together a strategy based on the small amount of intel we had. i have never used the in-game compass more than i did then.

thanks again to psi for this opportunity. was great to finally meet the brains behind TWL:AA. haha dont matter if the host gave us crap, we still put on a hell of a show. As for the rest of my team, it was good playing with ya'll, and we didnt kno each other much going into this, but i do look forward playin with you guys again eventually.

naphcon, you kicked major ass on the 2nd map with me. thanks again, couldnt have done it without ya.

I've always thought AA was a great game for VR, with the right equipment of course, which you obviously didn't have. Sounds like it was fun tho, which I guess is what counts. Well, that, and showing up the competition, which it also sounds like you did. Great Job!

I love those times in the game, vastly outnumbered, no one thinks you can do it, but you pull it off anyway. That's what makes game play so much fun.
Good job guys, way to represent. Naph knew you had it in ya buddy;-)
Naphcon for president!
VR sounds fun ... hope they market it
Good work Naphcon! MVP, hot damm!

Thanks to psi for making this happen for us. A big thanks to my team we did great guys, we had a good run at the end their insomniak. It was good times.
way to go guys...cant wait to see your actions on video!!
This was for the show "Arena" I take it? Sounds like that from the 3 games and the scoring. Did it already air or not?
