Okay folks, the system is set up the same as OGL and the same as CAL's system. It is very similar to the Peterson Point Sytem used in many professional sports.
First, your rounds won/lost has no bering at all until you get to the playoffs and then only if two teams are tied or in determining homefield adavantage. At which point, it is actually your win percentage that counts. And that percentage is based on the amount of TOTAL ROUNDS WON/TOTAL ROUNDS PLAYED.
Yes, who advances is most definetly tied to your round won/lost. While the idea of giving the team all 12 rounds may sound logical, its not. I'll explain:
The system is based on the assumption that ALL teams will play the SAME number of total rounds. It's your rounds won/lost percentage that determines certain things. Now, for the sake of arguement, lets say the season consists of a total 100 rounds. Now, using the suggestion of giving teams the full twelve rounds this is the scenario:
Team A plays all 100 and wins 75, there win percentage is 75%. After 88 rounds Team B has won 65 rounds. On their last match the other team no shows. Using the 'gimme' method
Team B's win percentage shows as 77% (65 actual rounds + 12 gimme rounds divided by 88 total rounds played + 12 gimme rounds played). Without the 'gimme' method their win average is only 73% (65 actual rounds won divided by 88 actual rounds played ). Now, if you were Team A how would you feel? Team B just advanced ahead of you even though you actually have a better win percentage. Why? Because we gave the other team 12 free rounds for a match they never played.
Another example:
Goof Troop joins the league. They win 1/2 of their matches the first half of the season. Season is a total of 12 weeks. Their win record is 50%. Next half of the season all the teams they are scheduled to play quit. Under the gimme method Goof Troop's final win percentage is 75% because we gave them the last 6 weeks worth of rounds when, in reality, they only won 50% of the amtches they played. Under the 'gimme' method you just sent a team that sucks to the playoffs.
Yeah, its possible that Goof Troop may have won all 12 rounds in each of those last 6 weeks, its also HIGHLY PROBABLE they could have lost all 12.
This isn't based on probabilities, its based on facts.
