1.7.0

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2004-01-05 · 21 posts
As you all know, it is official. Same deala s always:

#1 You have one week to get patched.

#2 If you have a matched scheduled in the next 72 hours, it can be rescheduled or killed. Killing the match DOES NOT require an agreement on teh part of both teams.

#3 If you have a match scheduled after the 72 hour period, you can only reschedule. Rescheduled matches due to new patches are exempt from being withing htree days. We want you to ahve some fun and learn the ins and outs of the new patch first.

#4 For the next week you cana gree in match comms to play either version. You CANNOT force someone to play 1.7.0 until after 5/7.

CDS WILL NOT be a requirement for the next 7 days on ANY ladder. We need to make sure what effects, if any, the new patch has on teh CDS system.

Just a quickie, is the bug that only friendly guns are empty of ammo or does it affect opfor guns too? I don't have time to test it before tonights match..... bah work how much better would it be to play AA all day
The bug is only friendly weapons. Here is the funny part. I took a friendly saw back from an opfor i killed and it was loaded out at the opfor RPK ammo settings of 100 rounds per belt. Looks like an opfor has to touch it and you get ammo.
The opfor ammo settings on friendly guns were like that in 1.6 too (and before as far as I remember). But that's good to know you can pick them up after opfor has manhandled them; I was told you couldn't.
I've gotten a friendly saw back from an opfor in prior versions and only had 100 ammo limit. That's nothing new.

The new "bug" is to eliminate spawn trading. I think it's because they want you to play with your loadout as the match goes - accept your role type of thing.

Anyways, I'd love to see them institute like a one minute rule at the start of a round on friendly weapon changes, instead of how it is now.
Striker this is a response for this issue:

Well, this one has us scratching our heads here. The bug wasn't in 1.6, and it wasn't in any of our internal builds that the beta team tested. The only changes we made for 1.7 was the addition of Bridge_SE and a new audio .dll, so we're a little perplexed. The programmers will look into it and get it solved by the next patch.

This weapon bug is a serious problem, especially for matches. I don't know why they keep calling it a minor problem that will be fixed with the next patch. This should've been fixed instantly! Any map that puts emphasis on key weapons like m24 and m203 (mountain pass, bridge, radio tower) will be unplayable now for matches. Is this ladder on hold ?
If everyone selects the right weapons and you do not over select the crew served wepons, everyone gets the right weapon. why is that a problem? Look at weapon selection in a 6x6 you can pick 8 (or 9) just because you can select 2 203 and 2 saw, you do not get that many of each. Someone can correct me here but I believe it is 3 crew serverd weapons, any combination. make sure you use the avoid leader check box and everyone selects the correct weapon. One guy does not do this right the game can then take over and give you what it wants to.
Regardless of how you prepare, the inability to pick up a friendly's weapon is a major bug and can lead to major problems.
How is it unplayable? The bug affects both sides.

Granted it affects both sides but if your 203 or sniper on mountain pass take it in the head by a fluke bullet in the first 40 seconds or they disconnect- your prolly gonna lose if you can't pick that critical weapon up adn continue to use it.

I don't think there's anyway you can say we aren't gonna play it -lol- but it just sucks.

It's not that it's necessarily "unplayable," but just that you must take a slightly different approach than when the ability to pick up friendly weapons is present, which should not be the case.

I need to check a few things. I'll let you know how we are going to handle this shortly. You'll have an answer before the 72 hour grace period is up.

One appraoch would be to stay with 1.6 till a fix comes out. I'd say 1.8, but it'll most likely be 1.7.1 that fixes it. But, this means to play on the pubs you would have to install another instance of the game in another folder for 1.7. Due to CDS, for TWL play, 1.6 would HAVE to stay in the default directory.

Other than the new map, the only thing 1.7 added was an audio .dll I find annoying.

BTW-we could still use the new map, just need to make another .ini entry in the 1.6 .ini to point to the Bridge SE map.

1.7 is here to stay until an update comes along. Most have upgraded by now and saying that would have to use 1.6 for matches now, simply won't work. It would create chaos for 75% of the players out there!

just hang back with the matches, until CDS is running again (or play without if you NEED to play right now). The gun bug, well live with it...

just my $.02

I realize it changes the game and your team would be hurting if on MP you lost your sniper/203 quickly. But my point is both teams have equal risks.

We have already started the process of upgrading our server to 1.7 (sent in the reqest to tech support at our host). I'm sure they wouldn't be too pleased with the idea of reinstalling the game all together. Please stay at 1.7.

1 big problem with the gun bug, is teamplay, example:
we play let's say Mountain pass, I'm the sniper, I get hit, and I'm red. I will usually ask a teamate to take the sniper rifle so HE can be more efficient. But with the rifle bug, he will not be able to shoot ....

that change a lot on the strategy.
