U.S. Army contracts PunkBuster developer

The U.S. Army announced today that it has contracted Even Balance, Inc. to integrate their PunkBuster Anti-Cheat software into the America's Army game.

Even Balance, Inc. spearheads the effort to fight cheating in the online multiplayer gaming industry. The company's flagship product, PunkBuster, spawned the Anti-Cheat movement in online gaming several years ago and was the first system proven effective against cheating in online games. The Army is incorporating this technology into the game in order to make sure that all America's Army players are able to play on a fair, cheat-free playing field in order to have the best gaming experience possible.

Punkbuster is not the savior. I'm sure it will be good for awhile, but from what I remember of this being used in the CS community is that since it is 3rd party that you can also get hacks for the program specifically. We shall see where the future of AA is going, but I am personally excited by HYDRA's program than punkbuster.

This is great news, specialy on the public servers. Punkbuster has done a good job on RTCW where unlike CS it for the first time was directly supported by the game developers. SOF2 is another game where punkbuster has done a sucessful job. The fact that an automatic update can be put online at any time, find a new hack on a cheaters PC will hopefully mean we will not see cheaters with more than 20 honor points ever in the future.

Reg: Hydra's program

I am very excited about this program and it has been tested by SAS and another helpful Squad lately. A few problems still needs attending but its looking good.

No matter if they stop the cheaters or not there will still noob clans yelling that they got cheated due to the lack of skill they have. Personally I hope they due stop the cheaters but more so the clans that complain about awesome clans cheating. Psst
