TWL PunkBuster Configuration

Friday, March 28th, 2008.


The (REQUIRED) PunkBuster Script (CVARs) have been updated from the time of this post. This will be available under the Operations tab; under Downloads/Files.

The Logs WILL be streamed to PunksBusted, AON, PBBans, AAGUID and ACI.

It is highly encouraged that Teams also take screenshots/demos, or run the "pb_cvarlist" console command to show the script was/wasn't running.

This will be in the ruleset under Server Setup very soon, as its currently being updated as we speak.

Servers with FTP-Access.
Servers without FTP-Access.
  • Step 1.) Register your server here:
  • Step 2.) Download the latest configs from here:
  • Step 3.) Copy the twlacscript.twl into your "C : \Program Files\America's Army\System\" (or your AA system folder location)

  • Step 4.) Log into your server as admin, or player admin and type "exec twlacscript.twl" in your game console.

    If you have issues running the "exec" command in console you will have to do the following to disable CDC's Exec Protection.
      • How CDC Blocks File Execution
        • This feature works by automatically changing one of the players aliases in thier User.ini file to a new alias. By Default CDC uses the following normally unused Alias:
          Aliases[32]=(Command="Axis aBaseX SpeedBase=100.0 DeadZone=0.1",Alias="SpaceFighter_JoyX")
          CDC changes it to:
          Aliases[32]=(Command="say Exec not allowed.",Alias=exec).
          This effectively blocks any file from being executed in game. When the user shuts down CDC the CDC Alias is removed and the original Alias is returned.

      • To Disable CDC Exec Protection
        1. Re-open CDC and look at what the "Current Alias" is set to. ie.. Aliases[XX]
        2. Open your "America's Army/System/User ini" file and scroll down to Aliases[100].
        3. Copy what is in Alias 100 from the "(Command" on to the end.
        4. Scroll to the Alias number you found in the CDC GUI.
        5. Paste what you copied into this Alias. (Make sure you paste after the "Aliases[XX]=".

Troubleshooting PB Server Setup/Streaming.

Steps to resolving issues with PB Server Setup/Streaming.

  • If the server is not streaming or active (online) using the Check Streaming Status link:
    Use the Check Registration Status link to verify the server is registered.
    • If the server is registered, but not streaming or active, then the server is in the database and as soon as it comes online with the proper TWL Scripts it will be streaming/active.
      This can mean one of the following:
      1. The server is running in pub/custom mode, and is either not streaming or streaming to someone else.
  • If the server is not streaming using the Check Streaming Status link, but says it is active:
    Use the Check Registration Status link to verify the server is registered.
    • If the server is active, but not streaming then the server is online, however the scripts are configured incorrectly.
      This can mean one of the following:
      1. pbucon.use file is not in the pb directory before pb was restarted. (apply another restart)
      2. The scripts are not updated to the latest version/has incorrent streaming information.

I am not sure why, but there are still many teams that haven't updated their scripts or are not using them at all.

I have actually participated in a match, in an opponents server, where they actually asked me if I was serious about having to run the TWL "Mandatory" Scripts.

I cannot believe the number of teams that are not checking this when they enter a server. These are "Mandatory" not "Optional". Make the team FORFEIT that doesn't have the right scripts running.

Cipher has done everything that he can do to make this simple enough for any idiot to do. Trust me, I can do it.
Either with the program he has supplied or through FTP access.

There are no excuses for not having TWL Scripts running. Every bit of information is out there for you to get these scripts running on your match servers, and has been for a long time.

The (REQUIRED) PunkBuster Script (CVARs) have been updated from the time of this post. This will be available under the Operations tab; under Downloads/Files.

Teams that are not updated by Monday, June 2nd, 2008 (6/2/2008) or Teams that do not run the TWL CVAR script will be given a forfeit loss if a team files a dispute for an invalid server and the scripts are not running.
