I must say I'm a little disappointed that there are no "wild card" spots for good teams that happen to finish below the top teams in their division. There are not nearly enough matches to determine who is clearly the #1 team on the division to make it that way, plus, as in all American professional sports, the playoffs need to be as long as the regular season.
P.S. this has nothing to do with the fact that my team is currently in 2nd place
hey red dawn, dont worry, 6 teams is not really enough for a playoffs, I bet there will be wild card slots. Keep kicking ass Red Dawn, and im sure you can take it.
Only 6 teams in the playoffs? For 1, 3 / 6 teams in a playoff thingy doesn't even equal out some team will end up having to get a bye which is unfair. Not only that but I'm sure there will be ties in some divisions, and how do you suppose to determine who goes out of that? How to determine who gets bye when the record is the same? Poo on all of this..
I also believe in 2nd chances, just because a teams record is the best doesn't mean they are the only team deserving of playoff hope. Post edited by °NeX° at 2/4/2003 4:59:22 PM
I agree with what has been said about having more than 6 teams in the playoffs (note all these complaints are coming from second place teams, lol). Skimpy playoffs are, IMO, what hurt otherwise great sports like Baseball and College Football. I think we should have an 18 team playoff. I know that sounds overblown, but it really rewards the division winners because they get an extra week to practice the map and it allows more teams to particpate. Only drawback is it does somewhat trivialize making the playoffs, especially in the National Conference, but I think it is the fairest (considerign some of the confusion of the first season), and most fun solution as well.
It should be the top 6 teams in each conference with the 3 division winners and the three next best records. Teams 1 and 2 have a first round bye. Then, teams 3 v 6 and teams 4 v 5 in a wildcard playoff. The lowest ranking winner of that plays team 1 the next week and the other plays team 2. The winners of those matches then play a Conference Championship where the winner of that moves on to the League Championship...Any questions? =D
If rounds are going to count in some kind of a tie break runoff...just in case then I want our match score levels to be corrected. It should be 46-2, if someone could correct this plz do so now. Thanks! Also, I would love to know how [2ID] has more points than us when they are 4-1...you get points for losses...I have NEVER seen a league where losses net you points. I remember them saying at one point that you will get a point for a loss simply for "showing up" and playing the match. The only stipulation I don't like there - is it possible (no I havent looked.. no time now) for some teams to play more matches than others due to whatever reason?
The reason we have more points than you is that we haven't had our bye week yet. We only have one match left so our highest possible score is 16. I believe you have 2 matches left so your highest possible score is 18, which would put you ahead of us.
Yeah I didn't have time (still really dont - heading out) to look over when each team played when.. but I assumed the bye week would play a part. Also wondered if possible matches that were to be played - but were not - could hinder some teams ability to be placed higher by points. Anyway - Im sure it works out.. will look at it when I get back
So any word on how it's going to be done Psi? I also think that just the #1 team per division is not a real layout for a league. There should be a semi-finals, or wildcard spots or something along those lines. With the way things are now, a team could have all their wins handed to them by forfit and win their division. I'm not sure if this happened or not, but I do know there were forfits.
I think rounds won should be a bigger importance then wins. Becasue if you get forfiets then you win no rounds. Plus if you play a match and the other team leaves once youve won 7 rounds, the rest of those rounds should be given to the winning team. That way with the rounds won being more important I think more teams will play out the matches.
