JC's Top 20 North American TWL AA Team Report for November 3, 2004.
-------------------
SUMMARY
-------------------
The top 6 teams continued their domination with a record of 22 wins
and 3 losses. In what has to be seen as a true biblical twist of
fate, the heavens opened up and gave their blessings to the Rising
Storms allowing for an unprecedented win against the very instruments
that gave them life (in the place most of them were born).
In the second tier, we see lots of changes as few teams were able to
avoid losses to teams below them. However, it is becoming clear that
Red Dawn is once again a force and The Final Stand is showing why so
many felt they were a top 10 team.
There are a few newer teams that I am watching closely that will be
challenging this top 20 in the weeks and months to come. Here's
hoping they bring their A game and make TWL even more competitive.

DETAILS
-------------------
1. Instruments of God
Matches played: VV 7-2 Tunnel rS 4-7 Hosp BDK 10-2 RB FR 11-1 RT
Upcoming: FR on BSE, rS on Mout
Lost to rS on Hospital but holds onto number one spot based upon
overall recent record. Will battle rS on Mout for the #1 spot on CQB
6v6 early next week. IoG will easily win Infantry Division in the 6v6
invite and will likely have the most points of everyone in the Loyalty
conference.
2. Rising Storm
Matches played: B2K 7-5 Vill IoG 7-4 Hosp RS 7-6 HQR MaD 11-1 RB Nato 9-3 RT
Upcoming: Nato on BSE, IoG on Mout, Logic on Vill
Huge win over IoG on Hospital followed up with close matches against
B2K (a possible future top 20 team) and an OT win against Reborn
Soldiers on HQ Raid. They continue to fend off ST6 in what is arguably
the toughest division in the invites.
3. Logic
Matches played: Vetro 7-4 Tunnel FI 7-4 CSAR ISR 7-0 WC SOS 7-0 Swamp DVC 12-0 RB BB 12-0 RT
Upcoming: BB on BSE, rS on Vill
They continue to strengthen and show they really are one of the best
teams in TWL. Recent matches against rS have been mostly close but
won by rS so they hold here in a solid #3 position.
4. Reborn Soldiers
Matches played: rS 6-7 HQR tm 7-6 WC oR 10-2 RT
Upcoming: oR on BSE, ACF on MA, SOS on Hosp
Two overtime matches (one loss against rS and a win over Team
Massacre) and an relatively easy win against overRated on Radio Tower.
These guys are very good but continue to be a little streaky (both
good and bad). They've lost Livewire but picked up TeenAgeJoker.
5. overRated
Matches played: tm 7-6 HQR GS 7-1 WC RS 2-10 RT
Upcoming: RS on BSE, RD on MA, tm TBD
A 10-2 loss to RS on RT? Me thinks they might not have brought a full
squad but I haven't had confirmation of that yet. Seems things are
getting a little dicey over at overRated headquarters. They did eke
out a win against tm and took care of Ghost Squad as one would expect.
6. Seal Team 6
Matches played: tm 7-4 WCSE Nato 7-1 Tunnel Nato 11-1 RB MaD 9-3 RT
Upcoming: MaD on BSE
Just getting stronger and stronger. Have added LiveWire, Warpain,
Darktool, and Devastors for the invites and some of their other
ladders. Should be a serious challenge for every team including Iog as
they hone their teamwork and get back into the full swing of things.
7. Team Massacre
Matches played: ST6 4-7 WCSE TKFP 7-1 CSAR oR 6-7 HQR RS 6-7 WC F~T 7-5 HQR 705th 9-3 RT
Upcoming: 705th on BSE, ATP TBD, CORE on BSE, oR TBD
These guys are playing extremely well against most of the top teams in
TWL. I'm guessing that with the two overtime losses to oR and RS,
they must be scratching their heads thinking about how close they came
to those big upsets. They do need to stop the random unexpected losses
and that will only come with improved leadership and match
management. In any case, they move up a couple of spots based upon
their tough matches against the top teams and the relative lack of the
same by NATO and Fatal Impact.
8. NATO
Matches played: TKFP 6-2 Mout ST6 1-7 Tunnel ASE 7-0 Hosp ST6 1-11 RB rS 3-9 RT
Upcoming: rS on BSE, KLO on Pipe,
They continue their dominance against the lower ranked teams but I'm
not seeing them put in as many tough battles against the top teams
like they used to. Each squad goes through ups and downs and perhaps
NATO has lost a little focus recently.
9. Fatal Impact
Matches played: F~T 7-1 Br Logic 4-7 CSAR
Upcoming: FR TBD
Dropped the invites and are only playing 4v4 obj these days. Lack of
focus and drive is definitely affecting these guys. JhoodHopper
jumped ship over to ACF (another future possible top 20 team).
10. The Final Stand
Matches played: Borg 7-0 Tunnel H2K 9-3 RT
Upcoming: H2K on BSE, SF on Bridge
Moving on up and most people expected they would. They jumped this
high simply because everyone in between did horribly this week. They
have recently added Futucular and dropped the 4v4 ladder.
11. Red Dawn
Matches played: EoR 7-2 WCSE SF 7-3 RT MaD 7-0 BSE EoR 7-4 Br BB 12-0 RB DVC 7-5 RT
Upcoming: DVC on BSE, oR on MA, ISR on IC
Starting to play like the Red Dawn of old. Almost total domination
across the board as they won 6 matches against quality teams. Total
score was 47 rounds won versus 14 rounds lost. They have also recently
added Railz and Bushwick adding some quality depth to the team.
12. Force Recon
Matches played: CYBA 7-0 PSF UEO 7-2 WCSE mC 5-7 Tunnel 705th 7-3 MA AZ 2-7 BSE IoG 1-11 RT
Upcoming: IoG on CSE, eX on WC, FI TBD, SS on RB
2 losses to (formerly) unranked but quality teams and Warpain moving
onto ST6 was not good for FR this week (though Warpain is still on a
couple FR ladders and they've added LiquidSmoke).
13. Diligencia Vis Celeritas
Matches played: ACF 4-7 WC Logic 0-12 RB RD 5-7 RT
Upcoming: RD on BSE, Sponsor on CSAR, BB on Pipe
Not sure what hurt the most...the WC match against ACF or the very
close invite loss to Red Dawn. The RD loss puts DVC in a tough
position as the invite playoffs are just around the corner. They have
to beat RD this week if they have any hopes for the invite
postseason. They have also recently added 4 new members to the squad.
14. Blood Brothers
Matches played: rX 7-2 Mout H2K 7-5 MP RD 0-12 RB Logic 0-12 RT
Upcoming: Logic on BSE, FTC on PSF, DVC on Pipe
Continue to be a strong mid-tier team but one having a hard time
putting anything together against the top squads. They are 0-5-1 in
the invite league and have lost 0-24 in the last 2 matches against Red
Dawn and Logic. They do, however, continue to beat the teams ranked
below them and haven't had a loss to any team currently ranked below
them in several months.
15. Rogers Rangers
Matches played: BDK 7-3 Sand IAF 7-4 WC JSOC 7-4 WC SF 6-5 Sand UNITY 12-0 RT
Upcoming: BORG on CSAR, AAF on Artic, AZ on WCSE
Another solid mid-tier team doing well against the lower ranked
squads. After a bit of a tough patch, it seems these guys are holding
their own and avoiding bad losses. They have added 7 new members over
the past month or so and who knows what impact that will have (if
any).
16. 10th Special Forces Group
Matches played: LB 6-3 Mout AZ 9-3 RB Hoser 10-2 RT
Upcoming: Hoser on BSE, USA on WCSE
Very solid team focusing on 2 areas: the invites and the 6v6 obj
ladder. They will easily win the Stryker division (and most likely
the Honor Conference) but will start facing tougher challenges in the
intermediate postseason.
17. Masterful and Determined
Matches played: RD 0-7 BSE VX9 7-0 Swamp rS 1-11 RB ST6 3-9 RT
Upcoming: ST6 on BSE, CHG TBD
Unfortunately, MAD just hasn't been able to compete with the big boys
in the toughest invite division and they got banged around on BSE by
Red Dawn (which is a map I would generally think they could compete
well on). They should beat CHG easily but will very likely lose to ST6
in this week's league game.
18. Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance
Matches played: Logic 0-7 WC GS 7-5 RT 705th 9-3 RB Fon 12-0 RT
Upcoming: RD on IC
Nothing for Logic on Weapons Cache but very good games everywhere else
(though the 7-5 RT match was tighter than I would expect). They have a
league bye this week and are playing RD on IC where, in all honesty,
RD should rock.
19. Team Special Forces
Matches played: RD 3-7 RT RR 5-6 Sand H2K 9-3 RB AH 11-1 RT
Upcoming: EoR on MP, TFS on Br
They beat the now folded H2K and America's Homies (who have left the
intermediate league). Very close match with Rogers Rangers on SF
Sandstorm but couldn't come up with the necessary strats and shots to
beat Red Dawn on Radio Tower. They have a real tough week ahead of
them and a number of quality teams nipping at their heels so these
guys continue to be on the top 20 bubble.
20. Absolute Zero
Matches played: FR 7-2 BSE 10thSFG 3-9 RB rX 8-4 RT
Upcoming: rX on BSE, RR on WCSE
Huge win over Force Recon after what can be easily called a major
disappointment in the intermediate league (though they did beat rX this week
for their first league win).
-----------------------------------
How I determine rankings
-----------------------------------
These rankings are mostly based upon matches against other top teams
(both recent and over the past 4 months). Most important is quality
wins over the past 2 months against teams ranked above you (at that
time) and bad losses to teams ranked below you (or unranked).
These rankings cover the 4v4 and 6v6 leagues as well as the 4v4 obj,
6v6 obj, and 6v6 CQB ladders. No other ladders are included so matches
in the special forces ladder, 2v2, and others are ignored.
So, if you are not on this list and think you should be...well, all
you have to do is join these ladders and leagues and beat the teams
that are on the list. Until then, don't squawk to me that you should
be the list. Oh, and 1 or even 2 wins is not good enough especially
if you have recently lost to unranked teams.
