Here's a good one for all you folks that are quick to blame SCI-

The fact is, there's a glitch in the game and some folks have figured out how to lag and crash servers by using radio meassages.

The devious bastards
Actually Psi, as I have heard it, not the game itself - but a combination of both PB and the game. So it's not really SCI - it's can happen on any server.

BTW-

If we find anyone here purposely crashing any commercial server I will use every bit of influence I have to have your AA account banned.

Stupid shit like this is what causes people to jump to conclusions and blame SCI for everything that goes wrong.

No matter how many times someone proves it was either a developer screw up or an outside source, SCI still gets blamed.

yes, but they were going after official servers and everyone was blaming SCI. Its been going on for a little while now and as the information gets out more and more people do it. Hence, the growing amount of lag and server crashes.
Allfrag servers still > SCI

That's not the point. The point is people love to witch hunt and blame people when its not their fault.

Now, lets see how long we get to live with a readily available means to crash a server at will.

The lag yesterday was on nearly every server. I don't blame anyone for that but I'm pretty sure that the radio messages have nothing to do with it, cause you have to be in the server for that stuff. If you want to flood the server without playing on it, your IP gets blocked (at least i hope so). + the lag was different as if you would lag the server with RM, you can notice that.

People should seriously start listening to what is said by people who know what they are talking about (ie. Psicotic1). It is rediculous that SCi is being blamed so much when it is not their fault.

If SCi were a bad game host, Unreal Tournament 2004 would not have low pings of 30 or less, they would not be contracted by the world's number one publisher Electronic Arts, and then bashing them might actually be legitimate.

How exactly is this exploit done? Using radio messages? I know you can create lag, piss people off, get banned/votekicked/kicked, etc from spamming the radio, but that doesn't seem like it would crash a server.

If you are crashing a server on purpose, your account should not be banned. YOU SHOULD BE SENT TO JAIL INSTEAD! Or at least fined or legally held responsible. You're purposefully attacking the server. This is illegal.

Doesn't matter how its done, they have a fix rolling out.

And yes, SCI provides servers for Epic and Atari with no issues.Just AA. And a large part of the equation is the fact that in many respects certain aspects of UT2k3 engine sux donkey balls.

CDC & PB needs to catch this.

What about the servers that are not leased/official?

As Hunter said, PB is part of the problem.

Dunno.

In alot of ways its almost like a DOS attack. Only from a built in command...go figure...

This radio message thing just happened to us on Mout. Someone was blatanly cheating, I kindly reminded them this was a cheat free server, and politely asked them to play on a cheat enabled server. 10 minutes later the server was flood attacked, and there was a constant beep, like you do when you radio message someone. Huge lag spikes, that makes everyone warp.

Hope it get's fixed, but it just adds to my many reasons for not wanting to play on public SCI server's anymore.
and yes, I am leaving out many details. You don't need to know how or why or what the process is. It happened, its being fixed.

Like I said, the pings and lag should be much better after tomorrow and the crashing should stop.
Last night I was in a server that the above mentioned thing with the server locking up happpend. When it did lock up all I could hear was the radio beep (constant untill the server resumed). On the other team was a person from the clan [DivX]. From what I have read, this is a known clan that cheats. In fact he was bragging about hacking while I was in the server.

So if the server locks up, you can bet there is a hacker in there messing with things.

dunno.

Its almost a DOS attack because the effects can spread if you are on a cluster based system.
