GR League Announcement

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2004-12-26 · 29 posts
Ladies & Gentlemen,

It's finally arrived. I am pleased to announce that the Ghost Recon League will be kicking off on Friday 3rd December 2004 with the Pre-Season map M08 Battlefield.

The ruleset has been finalised & the maps chosen.

You can find more details about scheduled dates & server/gametype setting in the rules, here.

The Pre-Season week is there to get everyone familiar with how things work. So you'll still need to report matches as you normally would, the scores however will be reset before the League begins proper.

Out aim is to run the league as follows:

1 Week Pre-Season
5 Weeks Regular Season
Play-Offs

Each team will play the other teams in their division once.

The top 4 teams from each division will go through to the play-off's, which will consist of a straight:

Quarter-final --> Semi-final --> Final's format.

Rosters will be locked 2 weeks before the end of the regular season. This is done to prevent last minute free agent moves to stack play-off bound teams.

All teams on the league should see that they have a scheduled match for 3rd Dec 2004 - use your match comms to sort out server details & to sort out if you want to play earlier. The home team has server choice.

Have fun guys.

I know I'm an idget... but could someone please explain this to me:

Game Type: Hamburger Hill
No of Players: 4 per Team (Min)
Number of Maps: 1
Time Limit: 15 Minutes per round
Rounds per Map: 2
Rounds per Side: 1

How you win:

The chosen map will be played for 15 minutes on each colour spawn, the team with the most amount of smoke time at the end of each 15 minute round will win that round.

There is a possibilty to draw a match - i.e. both teams get the same number of seconds in the smoke at the end of each 15 minute period.

Rounds per map 2. But we play each color spawn? So only blue and red?
You play 15 minutes on side 1 (green) then 15 minutes on side 4 (yellow). Hope that helps.

cool should be fun and different....nj TWL

Hey Bullet,
Get with manowar and he'll help you guys out if he can. Hope you guys can get in on this!

Currently the teams are locked, however we expect that not all teams currently enrolled will participate and anticipate having room for "fill in" teams. Send me a email at manowar@teamwarfare.com and I will make sure if there is a slot available you guys can get in it.

We played a match based on these rules this week. It was a LOT of fun to play a different game style competitively for a change.

One question I have though: it says "total time at the end of both rounds". Am I wrong, or is time or smoke points NOT indicated in the recap screen at the end of the game? If not, where do we tally points?

Because of the infinite respawns - the game engine should pick the winner automatically based on the team who has the highest smoke time (as you wont be able to eliminate the other side) - correct me if I'm wrong on that.

The total smoke time can be calculated from the after-action screen - it shows the time each player had in the smoke & a cumulative total at the bottom. (/me hopes his memory is correct on this)

Thats why we set the after-action timer to 1minute30seconds to allow screen shots of both teams scores.

The score is PER round - so team A could lose 1st round & then win second round for instance. It's scored per round, so we have the possibility of win, lose & draw.

My understanding was that we totaled time from both rounds to decide a winner. Based on what you say, my understanding is now that if Team A wins the first drop 254-0, and Team B wins the second drop 150-125, the match is drawn. Correct?

Yep.

Win - Draw - Lose scenario.
Hmmm. interesting I guess... but that could make things very interesting in terms of figuring who moves on who does not. Especially, when one side can be dominating in terms of spawn point form the smoke and other advantage points.
I would say add both drop times together. If they equal the same then you consider it a draw. If not then one team always comes away a winner. Trust me ... it will be easier in the long run.. and is an easy fix to the rules..

Again just a suggestion to help you guys out..

I disagree totally with you Irish, and I'm in fact worried that you've resumed your "habit". Don't the twelve steps mean anything to you, man? Be strong, brother!

Splitting colour advantage is why we alternate sides. I think if we total up time, we'll have a team that may have had an advantage in the first drop camping out the smoke in the second drop. There's been enough camping in GR...

Here's a shot of the after-action screen - it shows the total smoke time as 'Team Score'

Right, 'cept based on what I said here, which you agreed to, smoke time means nothing: what matters is whether you won or lost, period.

From what I orginally understood the winner was determined by which team got the most total smoke time from both games. This way having very few if any ties. Keeping smoke time as the tie breaker in case two teams have identical records.

---

The other way there will most likely be a number of ties since the chance of a team winning one game and losing the next is likely.

this there a link t sign up for this asap ? Or have i just missed it !!!! ?
Optimus contact manowar. There is a post above with his e-mail. good luck
Sep, you are correct, smoke time is only used for deciding who wins that particular drop. It does not matter if a team wins by 100 points or 1 point. In order to win the match you must win both drops by having the most time in the smoke each drop.

There is no way to sign up now sir, the teams are locked in. However if teams drop due to not showing up, or whatever reason we will be looking for "Fill In" teams. I currently have two teams in line to fill in and will add you to the list if you send me an email. It is just simpler to track emails then forum posts.

Okay, I understand you point Sep.. but that would make more sense if it was best out of three. Again, just looking at the whole tie thing. The more ties the harder it is to figure out who moves on. With only two maps the possibility of spliting into a draw is much much greater. Espicially as i have stated.. if one side is quicker to get to the smoke then the other.. or easier to protect. Thisstill will not stop teams just protecting the smoke then going for it.
If a team wins hte first map.. then they have no insentive to go for the smoke.. same senario.. just protect the smoke and grab the other teams spawn point..
Best of three just makes a whole lot more sense..

Irish Stout

Best of 3 won't work because of the inequality of spawns. Not that this is a vote, but total smoke time from the two drops seems simple and concrete. And its kinda hard to camp a infinite respawn game setup like we have before us, so its all about the smoke time.

However, if ties are anticipated, they could be considered 1/2 pt wins instead of a full win. We'll still need a tie breaker rule as it never fails that we'll end up with some teams tied at the end of the season.
1/2 pts seems reasonable to me... good solution.. if it can be implemented.. if not then I think.. it might again be tricky... MC to rock around to rock around, that's right it's tricky.. it's tricky, tircky, tricky

LOL

Either way i really don't care.. I am going to have fun reguardless.. I was just looking at ways to make everything easier for Admin's

Just for reference the points are awarded as follows when matches are reported.

Win = 3 points
Draw = 2 points
Loss = 1 point

ManOwar,

I sent you an e-mail on Wednesday regarding fill in team slots, are there any available for tonight?

Thanks!
So it looks like we may have recoreded our game incorrectly?
We reported the game as the "Report Match" implies.
Something to the reguard of...
If team A did not show place check here
If Team B did not show Place check here
Otherwise please put in the total amount of points for the map / all maps played.
Team A ( )
Team B ( )

Report Match

We took it as reporting the number of points earned in total. If this is incorrect.. then thank god it was just a pre-tounrey game.. I take it all points will be removed anyway before the Leagues 1st offical match starts.
One thing I have found interesting is that no team has won thier match yet.. well except the no show. Sure would suck to not get to move on because a team has a win from a no show.
