Ghost Recon - Last Man Standing Rules

These are the current Ghost Recon rules. In the interests of democracy, if you don't like anything in the rules, by all means, tell me!

I think most of the concerns will come from the maps available. Currently, only the multiplayer maps are legal (including the ones from Desert Siege). Do people want all (or some?) of the mission maps to be played on too?

hehe... when I saw the title, I thought this was going to be a post about how Ghost Recon rules!

Under squad info:

"Each squad must fill a squad of 4. If a squad is unable to meet this requirement, the offending squad must either forfeit or re-schedule the match at a later date with cooperation from the opposing squad captain"

I disagree with this. If you've scheduled a match, and then you can't field enough people for it, you should just forfeit. The way this is worded, the "opposing squad captain" is the bad guy for not wanting to reschedule.

Typically (From the T2 ladder), you've already waited a week for this match, and now by rescheduling, you're going to have to wait another week. (And what guarantees are there that the team will be able to field enough people then?)

Hmmm... Later in the rules under "Failure to Appear" is how I think the rule should read.
ok, I will look into that.

But I was more concerned with the actual gameplay aspect of the rules. How do those look to everyone?
It appears that we play 3 maps, and each map is played best of 3 right? A bit more clarification might help minimize confusion. Maybe change the "How points are scored" to "How to win a map"?

Everything else looks good to me.
It is played:

- Best of 3 games per map.
- Best of 3 maps.

So, it's the first team to win 2 games on 2 of the maps.

Does this make sense? It is standard TeamDeathMatch format. Once you actually play it, it will make more sense.
I say if the team cannon't have 4 players on, they can play with what they got. If they don't have any, well they get admin forfeit. Cause it's gay, I play T2 arena 6v6 and we won alot of match 4v6 even if we weren't allowed to play. If the other team is nice, they will agree to play 3v3 or 2v2... but they are not forced too because they are still some gay people in this world... Everyone got a life, they can't always be there at a certain time, some work, some do sports... if you got no life and think everyone is like well.. you're stupid :P

Ok, I would agree with allowing a team to play short-handed.

I have a major problem with being called "gay" because I refuse to play shorthanded. Our guys have lives just as much as the other team, but they are able to make it on-time to the match. Why should we have to sit people to make up for the other teams lack of committed players?

You've chosen to play on a competitive ladder. Part of that means having enough people to play.
If a squad is unable to meet this requirement, the offending squad must either forfeit or play shorthanded.

That is how the rules have been amended. The team that showed up with a full roster has the option to also play shorthanded, but is by no means required.
You rock! Thanks Red Mercury!
No problem.

Hello to everyone at TeamWarfare! I am Pyro from «ß» - The Butchers, and am considering signing us up for the GR ladder. Before I do so, though, I would like to comment on the rules.

I would first like to address the map choices, as Red Mercury mentioned in his original post.

As far as I am concerned, all maps are fair, with the exception of a select few. M12 Docks gives an advantage to the team spawning in the southeast corner of the map, MP06 Castle gives a MAJOR advantage to the side that spawns on the west side of the map (this is the least balanced map in the game), and D06 Ghost Town gives an advantage to the team spawning on the north side of the map.

If you want to eliminate a large portion of the camping that will undoubtedly take place in some matches, you might also want to consider removing M05 Embassy and M10 Vilnius from the available maps. Both of these seem to promote camping to one side or the other.

I would also like to comment on the server rules.

You say that the server is to be in dedicated mode, but you also say that remote access is to be off. If it were this way, the host would have to sit at the hosting computer through the entire match, and I'm sure this is not what is intended. We have played in numerous matches in The Rumble, and have never had a problem playing matches on a server in which the host was playing. Also, with any 4 vs 4 match, we have never experienced a problem with a host's connection. Generally Cable/DSL and above are capable of easily handling a game with only eight players - dedicated or not. I am only bringing this up, because many people («ß» included) might have a hard time finding someone with a T1 line which they would allow them to use as a server during a match.

we need an admin like you Mercury on T2 arena even if Janus is doing a great job, some rules are crappy. We have to ask to the ennemy team if they allow us to play shorthanded.. which they always say no so they get free wins.. (sigh.. when are they gonna understand...)
What is the maximum number of people we can have on the roster? I know the games are 4v4 so can we have say 6 guys on the roster in case 1 or 2 can't make it on a given night?
Owen, there is no limit to how many to have on your roster. You can have 100 guys ready to play, as long as you realize that only 4 can per map.

Pyro, I will take a very close look at those maps and see. But yes, they are by no means set in stone, and can easily be removed if they are not well balanced and lead to camping.
You can challenge anyone above you 10 slots or 50% of the remaining ladder from your current rank - whichever is higher. (Ex: Rung 100 can challenge rung 50. Rung 48 can challenge to rung 24. Rung 15 can challenge to rung 5).

Can better ranked clans challenge lower ranked clans for matches? Sometimes you just want to play a match and are not necessarily worried about upward movement...

Hmmm, I have never heard of that being an issue. In fact, the engine doesn't even allow you to challange anyone ranked below you.

If it becomes highly demanded, I will see if we can get some code written for that (which is kind of a big deal), but for now, I would say no. If you wanted to play a team below you, just challange them to a scrimmage (just a 'practice' game... for fun, and has nothing to do with TWL).
euh razor.. this is called scrimming.. no need to use TWL ladder to do this..
We play in the Rumble and constantly do matches with lower ranked squads. We usually are the ones to initiate the challenge. In this case, it is not called a scrimmage.

I don't know if the ladder code here supports the possiblity for impromtu matches...most of our matches are done by just contacting someone on ICQ, playing, then having the losing team report the loss. I don't have any experience here, so I don't know, but can that be done on this ladder? I'm not necessarily requesting that it be added, because I know that would be a major pain, but would just like to know.

I have another question, as well. How does the system of moving up work? For example, if a squad ranked 50th beat the 30th ranked squad, how far would they move up.
If Team A (rank 50) beats Team B (rank 30), then Team A is ranked 30th, and Team B is ranked 31st.

You can have spontaneous matches, but it takes a few minutes to setup (you need to select a date, time, side choice for 3rd map, 3rd map choice). If you are well coordinated, it could take 5 minutes... but still, only a weaker-ranked team can challange a stronger-ranked team.

...these will all make a lot of sense one you actually play a game or 2.

This should read "Team A will be ranked 30th and Team B will be ranked 31st"

Challenging team always takes spot of the Challenged team if they win. If the team that is challenged wins, they will stay the same rank and the challenging team will not advance in rank either.

Just to help ya clarify Red Mercury

OH MY GOD! I have no idea why I made such a retarded mistake. Yes, Crash is right.

I need more sleep...
I was SO confused!

Glad to have that cleared up. Man, kinda scared me there Red...
TWL general rules are great.. it would be cheap if the #1 could challenge other clan and if the last clan could challenge the #1 right after they joined.. 50%/10 rank challenge is good and everyone wanna challenge #1 so only the 9 best clans could play them.
Uh... I'm not sure if this has been covered (I'd have to imagine it has been), but I can't find where it says which colors are to be used. I see that it says platoons 1 and 4 are to be used, but the insertion points to be used are based on the colors used, not platoon number. Which colors are to be used, and for which platoon are they to be used (1 or 4)?

www.butchersquad.net
It's based on Platoon 1 being Blue and 4 being Gold. Sorry, I should have made that more clear.
Ok, good. Thanks for clearing that up.
