MAXIMUM OVERTIMES

We recently played a match that wasn't settled until the 5th overtime. The problem is the match lasted 3 hours and exceeded some time restraints of players for school and work. I recommend that TWL put in a maximum OT rounds played at the end of a match, ie. 3 max OTs and if still tied, allow resumption of play within 48 hours of the original match time until a winner is declared.

This would prevent the problem that presented itself last nite for future matches. I would add "mutual consent" after a number of OTs does not work as one team may not have players with the same time restraints of the other team. What we need is a fixed OT rule that levels the field.
If it is a ladder and SD, home team picks side, and it is one round. So you probably did not read the rules.
My guess is that he is talking about the BAS OT rules.

-Draws/OT:
Should the regulation period end in a tie, then the map is to be restarted. Unlimited 20 Minute Overtime periods will be played with teams switching sides at the end of every round. The first team to destroy an enemy base (bomb must detonate) wins the Overtime period. The Defending team has side choice for Overtime. There will also be no substitution of players in Overtime.

There will also be no substitution of players in Over Time. In the event of a tie/draw, the OT round will be replayed until there is a deciding winner.

3 hour BAS match would be brutal. lol
I didn't even know people still played BA, my bad on the post.
^^^lol its base who cares...............
sounds like a good time
you don't know fun until you played 2.5 hours OT in 6v6 CTF on Arnham.

and for any old SH teams 3 hours on Malta
It's not likely that a CTF or Base Assault OT would take this long; however, it makes sense to stop the OT at the 60-minute point and then begin setting up a reschedule. The OT reschedule would need to be completed within 48-hours. Thoughts?

if you cant resolve the match after 1 ot, then the option to reschedule the remaining ot should be given. 60 mins per match is quite a bit, specially when you consider many matches start late and pause for half time breaks... almost like football - 60 min game that takes 3 hours to play!
If you were just concerned about Base Assault's OT, then you are looking at -- "Unlimited 20 Minute Overtime periods will be played with teams switching sides at the end of every round."

CTF OT is different -- Time Limit will be set to "0" and a sudden death round will be played (Unlimited time). PamUO will set the Overtime minutes to "0". The first team to capture a flag, wins."

I am asking for suggestions on Base OT. I posted 60-minutes or 3-OTs and then reschedule. Teams should also know they can, as a last resort, after regulation, reschedule an OT if it is very late and it makes no sense to continue. Both teams would need to agree and set a reschedule date and time in match comms.

i have a different view on this.

i was a part of the LOOOONG overtime game on Arnhem for CTF, i was playing spearhead (not with D12C) when i heard about the friggin long campfest on malta.

it's hard enough to get a match date that everyone can show up on (as in they have other matches on other days, or member availability might be off). i say that it's a "fight to the death" in OT. if your players can't take the long overtime, then the opposing team will become victor by your forfeit. think of it more as say two sports teams (whatever the sport) playing in a neverending overtime. the first team that "just can't take it anymore" and falls to the ground... will lose. same should apply here. no matter if ppl have work the next day, school, a paper to write, have to pee (i know ppl took bathroom breaks while camping on malta)... you gotta press on. i know it's only a game, but "this is war" still applies. last man standing wins. if you can't take the heat and have to leave... then the other team has shown they can last longer than you and should be the victor.

I'm not about to lose to a team of kids because I have to wake at 5am to go to work and they can just forge a note and skip school.

Why the drawn out overtime? Why not just set the clock to zero, let defender choose sides and first to destroy a base wins?
I'm sorry I wasn't specific about the game in the first thread. It was Base Assault and I disagree with the reaper, there is a responsibility to parental time restraints on school nites as well as work. To go three hard hours in a BA match takes a lot out of anyone. No one wants to forfeit especially in this case as it was the #1 rung on the 6v6 BA ladder. But in any match, I believe there should be a limit, time or rounds, that is reasonable for a length of play. If tied, the OT could be rescheduled withing 24 or 48 hours and played either in the customary 20 min rounds or set to 0 and play till the first base is destroyed. Three hour matches shouldn't happen.
Gentlemen or ladies as applicable -- this is a computer game. OT in base assault is about the first base to be destroyed goes the winner. Except it is done in 20 minute rounds. Maybe it should be no time limit and all out war until one blows. Hmmmm.....

There should be an opt out for a reschedule when it gets too late to continue, but we need guidelines -- for the kiddies who need to get up at 7am. Believe me -- they do not get up until the last minute anyhow.

i'll preface this with the fact that i haven't played BAS since almost the start of UO after i tried it out (just isn't so fun in pubs).

i still stand to the point that a match should not be forced to a reschedule... but if both teams agree (as with ANYthing in TWL, then there's no reason why you can't postpone it to a later date (like after the 2nd or 3rd OT, or whenever).

as far as the 0 time for OT in BAS, it only brings 1 question: are there any unfair advantages for being on one side over the other? if so... do you think that being the "defending team" should get that much of an advantage to be that one side for all of overtime? if that sounds reasonable, then that's the way you should go.

without ever playing a BAS match, but comparing it to other gametypes that have severely lopsided things... when it comes to overtime, it's overtime, and the home team gets a big advantage. in MOH, when we played bridge or hunt (in OBJ) and forced overtime to V2, and we knew we would get the poop end of the stick and get allies, we knew it was game over. BUT, that's how things happen. they got side selection.

so my opinion is, it sounds like a good idea to change it to a 0 time limit OT and may the first base destroyed, end the match. defending team picks side.

Are there ties in all other gametypes. If so how come they arent allowed in base? I played in the match in question and I must say it was a long hard match and I had to work the next day. if twl allowed ties after the 3rd overtime. I think that would be the best thing to do thats still a a 2 hour match.

It was a question worth asking, now you know the answer.

I have been in a few OT's and this is the first that went beyond 1 OT, so it's not like it happens all the time. I think we are on the right track though by putting a time limit on the match.
For those that think it should be a play till you drop, just consider that HS kids have parents yelling at them. Some guys that aren't divorced yet may have wives nagging them to get to bed. Or just need to get up early for work. These things will take your mind off of the battle and can work against you.
I'm sure we all stay up later than we should pubbing but defending a #1 spot takes a bit more out of you and demands full attention.
Also, I think that the 'No substitutions in OT' rule needs looked at. I can't think of a good reason for this rule to be in there, but in a drawn out OT like we are discussing substitutions may be very necessary. Also if there has to be a reschedule/resuption of OT the next night it might be next to impossible to field the same squad.

Someone tell me why substitutions are not allowed/fair in OT. I would be reluctant to let a scrub/new member play a second round because they may allow the opposition to catch up and tie. Then I would be stuck with that player for the OT too. Also some guys are better with certain weapons (american, german, russian etc) so you should be able to adjust your squad accordingly.

My 2c.
