Some of you might remember me from a few weeks back, when I couldnt get MW4 to run on my computer no matter what I tried....well, turns out the problems was Win2k. Im back to 98 and able to "get my mech on".

To all those who contributed posts to help me, thanks. As a regular T2 player, I was more than surprised that none of the posts flamed me, but almost all tried to help. You guys rule. Sharpe especially, as he tried several times to help my solve my own dumbass problem.

So, I guess I might see some of you guys in multiplayer. I suck, but mostly because need an effective strat against those damn players who sit back 800 meters and launch 40 missile salvos at you. Ughh....I thought you could fit more than one AMS on, oh well.

Thanks to all of you who helped, it was apleasant change.....and if someone would post a good anti-missile strat, my love would know no bounds...
Just try to join up with a clan that holds the same interest as you. You will learn in a hurry.

Anti-missile strat?

Run with radar off.
Keep behind or with a big fat Daishi, let the missile boats tag him first. You take them out.
Speed, Speed, Speed. Be fast, Be small. Raven, osirus and Uller with max speed. If they get a lock on you, you will still have plenty of speed to either run out of range or behind a hill or building to deflect the missiles.
If you want to get some info on MW4 tactics check out www.mw4online.com although the site has been down a lot.
.
Light Gauss 1200 meter range, LRMs 1000 meters range....dead missile boat priceless!

(as a missileer myself, you learn what can kill ya!)

If there's not a hill or wall between whatever you're shooting then something is wrong.

Dealing with boats is easy. Few tips:

1. Cover. You always shall have cover between you and them. If you don't, you are doing something wrong. On very large open maps (scrub i.e.), you still can have a hill you can move around if flanked by fast missileboat. "Ghost" aka Loki comes to mind...

2. To gain lock on you, missileboat needs time. To hit them with any direct fire weapon, you dont need this time. Therefore, you can hit them once, survive one salvo, and than hit them second time, killing the mech.

3. Electronic system on your mech means that he will get the lock easier. If you happen to have BAP and ECM, he will lock on you almost instantly. Remeber this.

4. Running in a way that ANY mech, either yours or enemy is in front of missileboat in 90% of times will make him loose the lock on you (if he will allow his reticule to pass over any other target than the one he is locked on, he will loose the lock).

5. AMS / LAMS helps a lot. It effectivelly kills 5 missiles from each rack, therefore it makes clrm5 useless, clrm10 have damage halved, etc. If you have problems with missiles, you can benefit from this systems (I dont usually sport one, as missileboat rather rarely lock on me)

6. Damage spread. Missiles do not impact into one point as ERLs for example do. If you see missiles incoming, start twisting your torso rapidly. Damage will spread, and you will not be cored in 3 salvos hitting directly into your central torso. Effect will be rather pleasant, you can end eating about 600 missiles with having all parts orange, but none red or critical.

7. Movement. If you move directly into incoming missiles, or directly away from them, they cannot miss. Thats typical fault of light mech which is attacking missileboat, to go in straight line towards them. Its suicide. ALWAYS move side, like in "T" letter. Big part of missiles will either spread or miss completly.

8. Faster you go, more missiles hit the ground around you. In laggy BK environment, its especially true. Faster you go, faster you can close with mboat (if situation allows) - up close mboat without jump jets is almost useless.

Finally, thnx for your positive opinion about MW4 community. Hope you will have fun playing this game.

RUN FOR THE HILS!
ams rocks, and i rarely use radar.
its true, the faster you go, the less rocket damage you take. i stay around 60-70 kph and use hills alot, when you hear the "beep beep beep", and have no cover, and have jump jets, wait till the rockets are close, then jump,, most will hit the ground.
wanna make em useless?, some chassis type are obvious where they hold rockets- catapault, vulture, ryoken, mk2, etc.
remeber where they are, and stip em down. nothin's funnier than a catapault with no ears on it runnin around lookin to get killed so they can respawn .
kills are worth points, but strippin it of its weapons, then killin it gives you more.
if your workin a target down, then someone else finishes it off, dont go ballistic and start yellin, its down hill from there.
put armor on your legs! i've been booted and banned from 8 servers for takin legs off, cause the ones i did it too arent bright enough to put armor on the legs of their rides.
on hot maps, pack on as many heat sinks as you can , cause the shutdown override feature will cause you to suicide if your not careful. then you'll hear about it for the rest of the game "wahhhhhhhhh, tk'er!" not to many rides can use lasers on hot maps effectively.
when you go to a server, dont trash talk everybody in there, saying things like "im gonna own this place", usually results in a severe beating, by 4 or 5 vets playin under an alias.
even if your teams losing, dont split in the middle of a game just cause your team score is low, stick it out, youll get a lot more respect that way.
need help with a chassis loadout? you'll find that more players are willing to help you out instead of giving you a crappy loadout and watching you catch the smackdown for 30 mins just for a chuckle. i only use 6 or 7 variants, if ya need a hand, get me on icq or messenger, and ill walk you thru a few.
no-heat servers are a whole different universe, the groups that run them (pk, oa, aod, etc) arent worth goin on, cause youll catch the boot real quick. theyre just morons.
if your lookin to join a group to play with and learn from, theres a ton here that'll be more than happy to snatch ya up, and show you how all the tricks of the trade.
The importance of your mech variants is vital too. I remember the first week I got the game using a 5CLRM20 Daishi.

Try and balance your mech with weapons of the same range and recycle time, this will give you an effective "alpha strike" (firing all weapons at once).

A good and very simple tactic for new players to pick up is "pop tarting", the art of jumping from behind cover and firing. In its simplest form, kit out a MKII with JJ, 3ERLL, 2 Clan Gauss. Stand behind a wall/hill and jump so your weapons just pass the wall/hill and alpha your target in the CT. Try doing this without radar and don't jump too high.

When you get better you will need to manage your heat overrides very well. The better you get at it the more room you have for ERLLs because you won't need so many heatsinks.

Ah, another thought...

Learn what maps are hot (Dustbowl, Vbase) and what ones are cold (Lunacy, Cantina). This will have a massive effect on what type of weapons you should be using. On Vbase I want my heat sinks to give me full yellow or green... on Lunacy I take a red bar cos it's so cold.

I am guilty of playing 7 ERL relfective Nova with 7 heatsinks on VBase though . It can be done, you are just very very dead if ANYTHING will manage to get near you. And in pub games, it will happen rather sooner than later.

As guys previously said, try to hook up with good clans, like HEL (), -X-, MG, AC, SI etc. Watch them playing, and learn from that. Playing with noobs will not do you any good, you will just catch a lot of bad habbits which later will be hard to get rid of. Good place is either Win2k or MG Killing Fields server. Nice games are also played in any NS13 place.

Writing about anti-missile things, I forget about jump-the-incoming-missiles trick. It works, and works very well, as my colegaue stated. I use it all the time... how could I forget, sheesh. Finally, if you have problems with mech designing, mail me, I can send you my variants (about 75 for now I guess).

Just a small add (wow what a thread!)

Small mechs at 800 meters from a missile boat are nice too...get within 800, and smack him, then turn tail and run (not STRAIGHT back as was already mentioned, swerve (sp), torso twist, etc, but keep running away). A couple things may/will happen....all your swerving and torotwist will mess with the missiles and they wont hit, or at least most of them, and you might get past the 1000 range of the missiles and they'll just fail. Bear in mind though, that a good group will have a laser boat that will tag you :P But you'll get away from the missiles. Works great against teams with little cohesion or a preponderence of missile boats
Little addition to the jump from the missles tactic. IF your close to a hill, jump so that you land on the other side of the hill. But don't just jump, shut your mech down to while your in the air. Even a big target like my Thanny will take practically NO damage if I jump, kill and kill the power. Landing behind the hill does two other things. Provides cover so you can start up without being shot, and gives the missles something else to run into besides your mech.
WOW....I said it before, I'll say it again.....you guys rock, thanks for the proliferation of help....damn....

And I rarely talk trash in the games Im good at....so when it coems to the MW4 multi, I definately dont since I don't last long at all.

Thanks a ton....this is almost unbelievable....hell, it feels like something out of a 1980's feel good movie....are any of you John Cusack in disguise?

All the talk on how to avoid missiles, here's a few tips on how to use em effectively. Use your zoom! You will get a lock much easier and faster since more mech is under the reticle, especially if using the "pop-tart" manuever. When being charged, back up. This helps keep you out of range of thier weps (sometimes hehe) and allows you to keep the all important lock. Never forget you don't need a lock to kill a stationary Mech, great for killing snipers that think they're invisible hehe, no beep, no warning and no LAMS saving them. Also you can selectively target with missiles. Wherever the reticle is when you fire is where they will go. There will be some random splash but the majority will hit what your aiming at. So if you want to take the arms off that pesky Nova Cat you can do so easily. Best mechs for boating are BKs, Lokis (for stealth missiling, which is the BEST way), MKIIs, Ryokens and if you really have to, Catapults. Cougars make good ones for use in Goliaths or as a support Mech. With practice you can get locks on ANY Mech in a couple of seconds. I've been accused of hacking because I can get a lock VERY fast, but I've had over a year to perfect it hehe. Started out as a boater. Hope this helps!

Leg the missle boat. Leg him, leg him. Then leg him again.
