N00bs

One thing I like about Mercs: the n00bs. The new people who had no idea what they are got into when they bought the game. Just think of all the advantages:

- The badly needed 'new blood' for the community (preferably splattered all over the nearest wrecked mech)
- The dooming realisation when they read the TWL forums and learn all about flame wars, the endless range of possible applications for goats and other facts of life.
- The limitless supply of easy targets (talk about target rich environments) that never return fire because they:

a) Did not discover the firing button yet
- or -
b) Did not discover torso twist yet.
- or -
c) managed to disable their HUD and can't find the button to activate it again.

And now they've even managed to find a way to get 24 n00bs on a server!

Of course there are some minor (albeit funny) disadvantages too. I quote:
- "Mechs can JUMP?!?!?"
- "What does a NURC pod do?" (And no, I don't need a spelling checker)
- "He must be cheating! He hit me from 600 out! No one can do that!!"
- "Heat Sinks? What do I need those for?"
- "Hey admin, start the game already!" (on a dedicated server)
- "Chikens? They have Chickens in this game? Cool, what patch do I need for that? Oh, they're a clan. Can I get the patch from them?" (edit: abbreviated version of the chat, but this is what it came down too...)

And then to imagine some of us started out like this 2 years ago Don't you just n00bs


PS: I think Giskard put a reward on my head for Crimes Against n00bs, or specifically, killing too many of them...

"All mechs defend base!" (This was when the other team's runners had our flag and we were down by 2 caps)
"Someone kill me I'm legged" (After we repeatedly told him that suicides don't count against in CTF)

Stupid things I always see:

1. Runners trying to play defense.
2. Defense trying to play runner.
3. Runners carrying the enemy flag BACK to the enemy base

Who needs Sitcoms when you've got newbs?

An old favorite n00b trick. When your buddies jump on coms and want on the server but it's full... "HIT ALT-F4 for speed boost"

That is always a GREAT n00b indicator.

Kovey just played that trick on p just last week....

I have a better defense. Call their parents. Show them the TWL forums. They will never play mech again
