For the last several months TWL has been working on a new league system. It is sytem that is setup much like US baseball/football leagues. Matches would be played on set days. There would be no challenging. A schedule would be made and everyone would play everyone. The league would last approx. 8-10 weeks. The clans with the better records would move on to a 'championship' round. This system helps keep all teams active.Just becasue your at the top or bottom doesn't mean you won't play. I brought it up in another thread,so to keep those that have already posted comments from having to redo them I'll copy and paste them here.

Here's what the setup looks like:

Here are their rules:

Remember, our rules would be much different, but you get the general idea.

In all honesty I think a league style play would be awesome for this game. It would allow teams to not play the same teams over and over again, and show just how good you are. In league style it is based on points. So you could actually say you are the best of the best, not just that you beat one team and moved up, but you beat all the teams and were crowned champion. Maybe toss some ideas around, because I'm not sure that the league rules for MW4 have to be exactly the sam as in other games.

Regardless where you are in the ladder you had to beat someone to get that spot and then you had to defend that spot. The setup I see is the most viable for our particular scenario "LADDER." Now in SLAM we do play a completely different way, we play ALL units and have regularly scheduled battles. Also it is MANDATORY that each drop you have a Light and a Medium and the tonnage remains the same 65tons per man. You are awarded points for how well you beat someone and the lower you are in the rankings, then you are awarded bonus tonnages per drop to make the games more interesting for the less skilled (pilotry, leadership, tactics, etc..) units. So say team A (No.1) is playing team F (last place) in a 8v8. Team A gets the normal 520 tons and team F will get to use 620 tons therefore the better you are the harder you have to work to maintain that level. AND the worse you are the more tonnage you get to make the game more interesting and even sided, hence more enjoyable for the lesser quality units as well as for the higher ranked. If you choose to make the best play the worst (without handicapping) BEFORE they are ready to play the better teams then I suspect you'll see more units drop from this league. Nobody likes being humiliated.

LMAO to the last post...

Yea, we also play in SLAML and that format is pretty cool. I think Druidking's comments about lesser teams is right on the money. Somehow gameplay will have to be balanced so the lesser teams can compete and have fun without being humiliated week in and week out. I'd like to see a point in time where 90% of the teams in TWL are at about the same level so we all have great, closely fought matches. Anything TWL can do to facilitate that environment (without providing too much of a crutch) would be extremely positive IMO.

TWL is a hard-core ladder. It's a raw measure of a teams tallent. If people want more activity and closer matches they should join a planetary or a 'nfl' style tournament league (like slaml). I would support a twl formed tournament league, but only if it was in addition to the ladder we have now. This ladder has always been focused not on quantity of matches, but on quality.

Res
I know I don't count for much... But I think it would be an interesting idea. HS does this every once in a while to sharpen our claws and it has proven to be a lot of fun. There are obvious time and day issues that came up, but that can be overcome by allowing the two teams to set their own time and day in the week. I do see another problem though... Right now I only see Rocket(Who said something about being like the family pet of twl) and psicotic1 doing the admin thing and the league idea seems like it would be hard to set up.

Wow, while I was typing my last post, ACResDogVU managed to slide a new one in. He does have a point about quality, but that could be solved by getting rid of the teams who aren't active. Then you will have a(somewhat smaller) group of hardcore players who will probably get better very quickly.

1. The other ladder's ain't going anywhere
2. You just see the one that talks alot. There's a whole staff involved with the setup.

If you guys wanted to have a ladder setup type, we would find the admin support. The code is already in place and being tested by other games. I may be the "family pet" () as of now, but I would be more than willing to help keep this community active. But we need the support from you guys. As psicotic said the ladders wouldn't be going anywhere, this would just be for you all who want to play a variety of teams plus have some more playing time.

hmm not sure if i made my point, or a any point for that matter lol. The "team attrition" ladder we have now is unique and working well (see activity). a team attrition league would be a nice addition, not a replacement.

Res
We wouldn't replace the TA ladder it is the most active MW4 ladder. We won't be touching that. As for the league rules/game type thats something that can be debated on and agreed upon. If nothing else the league play could be tried for 1 season and if it doesn't work we can nix it. But don't worry about the TA ladder going anywhere. ;]

Sounds like a fascinating idea, and there are obviously going to have to be some new things added when MW4:Mercs hits the shelves.

If you guys get this started I can promise you that TB will be one of the first teams to join it.

Disregarding the difficulty (impossibility?) of having teams show up for matches, 8-10 weeks would take the league into the timeframe when Mercs will be released. I, for one, am going to be jumping ship from BK to Mercs and never looking back. You might end up with the league falling apart as teams refocus from BK to Mercs.

Umm, [TB] you're confusing me

and right now that ain't real hard to do

Don't stop the man when he is on to something good, Wadmaasi. I am sure I speak for my entire unit when I say we would love to get a crack at every team on the TA ladder, but by the way it is set up that would be near impossible unless you pace yourselves ala HEL style. We are a bit too impatient for that so, here's hopin' for a BK league!

I think what we're suggesting is that you hold off for a month and a half and use this format for the MW4:Mercs Ladder.

The statement of "Ick" was made in relation to changing the present Ladder system.

Mercs will be our in the next 2 - 3 months and ther is likely to be a lot more players around. More Player = More teams, Correct?

Personally I like the idea.

The main reason HEL quit TWL TA before was the staleness of the competition - playing the same handful of teams every damn week lead to disinterest amongst our players after a while.

Starting out at the bottom of TWL has renewed interest in TWL amongst HELions, who are jumping at the chance to play teams we don't know very much about.

So what I'm saying is I'm sure the top teams would enjoy the chance to add some variety to their matches. However I think the TWL TA ladder has gotta stay.

How many teams are gonna still play BK after mercs comes out? (honest question...I dont think AC plans too)

I like the idea of leaving the T/A Ladder as a BK Ladder for a long time to come, and then using the new League format for Mercs. Eventually, roll the T/A ladder to Mercs as well.

We should do due dilligence to determine if Mercs C-Bills format can add flavor to the League format by adding "monetary" reward to teams for certain goals acheived during a match. This way, the better you do in a given match, the more you bring to the next match.

mabe we could test the euro DD ladder for it [/HINT]

A lot of "assumptions" about Mercs. Having played every "mech type" game for the last 10 years, the majority have been disappointments and failed to inspire the gaming community. I certainly hope that Mercs turns out to be great but until you actually play it and they deliver it on time (yet another potential issue) I wouldn't be making any long term plans. You can always test a "new format" with existing software to validate the idea and change over to something new when it is proven.
long as it aint another strongholds ladder

*tears hair out*

After Mercs comes out, I don't give a good (or a bad!) god damn WTF happens with BK. For Mercs, have a ladder and a league.

Even if Mercs sucks badly ??

A little presumptuous.

Might need a patch to make it half decent, look at MW4 pre-3.0 .. ewwwwww

Plus the fact everyone knows they'll put the release of Mercs back at least 4 times.

Standard M$ procedure.
Frankly, I am amazed many of you are so eager to get Mercs. Most of us have already shelled out a good $100-$120 on MechWarrior 4 and its expansions and from what I have seen and read Mercs really isn't a big step up from present day BK. The graphics will be identical, the in-gameplay will be more or less unchanged. Sure there is the whole new C-Bills thing going on but that hardly changes how the game is played while in-game. Oh boy, 10 new mechs and some gear, they coulda made another expansion for those and only charged $15 for it. Unless Mercs proves to have phenomenally improved MW4 by removing all bugs and eliminating all lag, I can't come close to justifying spending another $60 on a lackluster augmented MW4. [/end 2 cents]

-BMC
Saracen is right. The Mercs subject is best left alone till the time comes that the game is for sure going to be out and actually worth the effort.

I figure I spent $50 on MW4, $30 on BK, and $30 on the 'Mech Paks, for a total of $110. (This is, of course, exclusive of any hardware upgrades since I purchased MW4, as MW4 isn't the only game those are good for.) By the time Mercs comes out in Nov (why does everyone think it's going to be late? it is the same technology, and they said they were pretty much done with it save tweaking and testing almost a month ago) I'll have been playing MW4/BK for two years. That's 730 days worth of gameplay for $110 dollars, which comes out to less than 16 cents per day. (= Probably closer to 20 cents/day by the time you figure in taxes etc. I've certainly gotten my money's worth out of MW4/BK, but I'm also ready for something different (since, I agree, a goodly chunk of Mercs isn't entirely new).

The rebalanced weapons and the potential represented by the C-Bill gametype/scoring are, IMO, going to make Mercs worthy of its own ladders as soon as it's released. I, for one, am ready to let the BK ladders go and move on to Mercs; are most of you really not?

unless you have a set amount of C-bills available, using purchasing power can create a logistical mess on the TWL side. It almost like trying to combine a ladder league with a planetary league.

Well, umm, they have been known to say that before and then not come out with it till a month or two late

I don't see how? You find out how many C-Bills a standard 6ERLL/Reflective Mad Cat costs, subtract some, then say that for every X number of players you get Y C-Bills. Then the automation generates a modifier of more or less C-Bills per map. For the ladder, it would work exactly as the tonnage modifiers do now, at least so far as the automation is concerned. Gameplay would be signficantly changed, however, due to the necessity of purchasing not just 'Mechs (which we have to do now, "buying" several lights per map in order to get as many pilots into heavies as possible) but their armaments as well.
