LOL I couldn't even enjoy that video. I've seen it linked a couple times and watched it only to skip around and never fully finish all 11 mediocre minutes of it.

There's a reason why lengthy gameplay like that is not the STAPLE of Tribes videos.... because it's not interesting. I don't care for a whole bunch of short double ma's or midair knifes and head shots.

Really; Most Wanted was over the top with its editing but it WORKED because Aquasky gave full screen time for the cool shots. AND his music SYNCED and was GOOD. This video.... meh... you can't even tell whats going on half the time and the other half the scenes have NO transition so you can never appreciate the previous.

A whole bunch of crazy effects DOESN'T make your video good. Quote me on that.

Why do you think Denied by doubt is the gold standard for Tribes Vengeance videos? If you really want a video that gets it right then look no further than that.

That wasn't art. In fact, that video was awful. Only reason anyone gave it props was because the editing was unbelievable. It seemed more like a showcase for a new editing program than an actual Tribes video.

I consider myself a guy with a lot of free time. The fact that I haven't watched it completely without skipping parts is testimony to its suckiness.

As a side note, i`m not bias toward over the top editing. Look at Most Wanted...pretty similar but I actually watched and ENJOYED his.

I would consider this an art (editing, sound, graphics). And on top of that, I really like the gameplay. It's not all long mid airs across the map. It's paced FAST which I love, with lots of time ramps. I want to see some originality in a frag video and this one fits the bill.

There's a lot of nice shots in that but, it contains three or four chaingun kills and a few other kills where he has two weapons up at once. WTF? Also, 11 minutes is longer than anything on youtube. You look at the statistics of just about any video and viewership nearly cuts in half after 2.4 minutes. It's not because of short attention spans, it's because people don't have time to watch a complete short film of questionable editing choices and someone else playing a videogame. In short, if it doesn't have a plot, no film should go that long, unless it's ment to be comedy and length is part of the joke.

Sense when does putting a shit ton of effects on something make it art? Does that mean everything that's auto-tuned is art? Post productions goal is to enhance content, not distract from it. If your noticing more effects than you're noticing the content, chances are you've spent too much time meddling with after-effects.

I don't really care about youtube rules for viewers. Like it or don't. I watched 11 minutes of awesomeness and it didn't feel long. And the fact that you say he "put effects" on the video makes me laugh. Believe it or not, doing what he did takes more work than you'd probably think.
To each his own. If it felt over edited to you than that's your preference. I think he pulled it off for the style/pacing he was going for and I respect his skills.

man watching this video again, im starting to lose hope in ta, the physics just arent very good, nothing ever topped T:V in terms of that.

Good. What they need to do is what T:V does... MAKE US BE ABLE TO USE THE 2ND WEAPON WITHOUT HAVING TO WAIT FOR RELOAD TIMES!!

I haven't played T:V in forever but if i recall correctly you could shoot a disc or something then instantly switch to the cg and start shooting without waiting to switch weapons for a reload time.

See... me and Steven Seagal aren't the minority in terms of what we look for in videos. Or what we want it without in this regard. Ownage Time 2 has DOUBLE Aquasky's effects.

Alright after watching Most Wanted again just now... actually watching the whole thing unlike Ownage Time. I can pretty much attribute that to the editing being centered around the MUSIC!

That's what separates the two. Ownage Time you could barely haar the music because of the ingame sound fx added and all the editing DETRACTED from the content because they served no purpose EXCEPT to draw your attention AWAY from the content.

In Most Wanted he used things like glow fx and fast forward in relation to the speed and tempo of the song which made it so awesome. No effects were included "just because" or to draw your attention away from the gameplay.

Machinma is an art form and just as photography is an art form it doesn't mean that every photograph on facebook is a work of art. Also, this isn't even machinima, Red vs Blue is a good example of machinima, ownage videos are highlight reels in the same exact way that you see highlight reels of plays on ESPN. I'll give you that Ownage Time incorporates some scenes involving machinma, but overall it's still a highlight reel.

There use to also be a really cool video that's a great example of Machinima that was done by MTV2 Video Mods that had T:V players/characters playing along with The Von Bondies - C'Mon C'Mon, but unfortunately it seems to have been deleted from the internet somehow.

I have a BFA in design and work as a multimedia coordinator, i've created several commercials, skits, and a bunch of other stuff using After Effects and C4d. Granted he's using Sony Vegas, but changing backgrounds and colors like that is just a matter of applying filters and isn't that tough once you master the program. The coloring is just a small part of it. Keep in mind it all takes time and work, his organization of clips and basic timing (which isn't bad) is probably what took the lion's share of time.

Agreed. Music is the most important part of a music video/highlight reel, especially ones that rely on multiple intense moments like ownage videos do. Aquasky does a great job of lineing up shots and scenes with different baselines.

All in all though Most Wanted is just a better video. It still feels long, but he utilizes his time introducing a cast and giving rationality to why the filters are there. He's also not going overboard with effects, instead he's relying more on good camera angles and letting the art form of Machinima speak for itself. There are some heavy effects, but there all during the credits rather than in the middle of the content that we actually want to see!

His timing with the music is also better, instead of randomly switching from death metal to enya style ambiant, it starts with hard-ambiant, works it's way into nu-metal, goes to industrial , then slows down the intensity with house/techno and ends with post-dub. That's a nice flow, with a clear begining and end for someone who's more interested in rhythm and visuals.

There's alot more stuff I feel like I could point out, but Most Wanted just feels a lot more thought out and better designed.

This is quoted weird, but I work for West Virginia University at the moment. We don't have anything dedicated entirely to film, but there are a few web positions/graphic design positions that handle everything (print/web/video/mobile) available. Decent pay LOTS of benefits.
