Why c22 failed to beat 5150

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2014-04-26 · 145 posts
c22 only had one standout ld/chase. Prio. 5150 has like 3 or 4 if you count zelgadis. amirite?

zelgadis played with us? NEWS TO ME.
why did they come close then?

HOLY SHIT IT'S MODE!

HAY MODE!!!
Zel was on -K-

sLaM wasn't too shabby
well i dont know how long he was on 5150 but zelgadis did play for 5150 in match for #1. how can you pot heads not remember that...oh wait! anyways, answer the question, amirite???
It had nothing to do with 5150 being a solid team over the years... I'm sure if the game had been competitive long enough teams would have catched up (same with t2). Outside of the skill 5150 had individually, they had also been playing together (with a few new additions in tv) for a while. Experience, especially together as one main group goes a long way. That being said 22 did have a close match with them, on the same note game was out for a few months and the player's will to enjoy the game goes a long way in how they perform. This has been the case for the past 2 tribes.

p.s. - I thought I remember them picking up zel for one match or so. Hell they picked up brett!

quit putting words in my mouth.
if 22 had two more top LD on their roster they would have won. 22 had better offense but 5150 has better defense. and defense owns offense. wasnt magus in charge of recruiting? guess it can be concluded its all his fault. poor Prio, i bet he felt frustrated a lot since no one on his team was at his level at chase.

quite the opposite actually. in tribes the best defense has always been a good offense. in the first match on isle and cavern they had better offense(due to some certain circumstances with T:V's awsome netcode).
lol cavern was mentioned

sorry bud, defense will always be more important than offense. why did 5150 beat you guys? because they had the greatest offense? (whatever netcode problem, both teams had to deal with it) They had the better defense and kept the flag home when it counted. in fact, why was 5150 #1 in all three games (save IE)...no one is going to argue it was because they had the best offense.

i guess i just think its a shame that 22's great offense was matched with a so so defense. one more talented ld at prios level i think would have made the difference, on cavern at least. i was rooting for 22 but always knew you were lacking in d.

you understood it so well that you led 22 to #1 with you great HO team...

I think even DL mentioned isle had nothing to do with lag or server but 22s strat just sucked. something along those lines.
and that we were playing 8 vs 10 for half the map. we would have still lost i'm sure as that was one of our weaker maps but not quite by so much.

fact of the matter is that 5150's defense did not stop us from capping when we had our base up. It was when they had our base down and our team in spawn that they got the lead on us.

our "so so defense" was still the 2nd best in the game apparently. they did a pretty awsome job i'd say for how little they had to work with. Though that was in part to our offense slowing down the offense of the other team. Tribes strategies are confusing huh :[

in the future please refrain from editing your post 30 minutes later. ill take "so so" back. you had good defense but due to Magus failing to recruit talent for ld it was just "good enough." it was just enough to get by beating other teams (some just barely). (and lets not kid ourselves... the only real teams other than 22 and 5150 were MOTB and oshit. none of the other top teams from tribes 2 bothered with tv.) But when it came to 5150, 22s lack of people who could actually chase down good cappers (save Prio), you lost. and you can keep repeating that oh so catchy "best defense is good offense" line till you fingers bleed. history shows otherwise. not sure why YOU are still confused about this.

Well, a good offense literally negates a defense unless that defense is phenomenal in spawn.

Offense > Defense.
5150, was I believe, the first Van Halen album where Sammy Hagar was on lead vocals. I am a firm believer that any Van Halen band configuration that does not include David Lee Roth and Michael Anthony, is not truely Van Halen.

Also Offense > Defense.

5150's defense shut down 22's offense. unlike everyone else 5150 didnt just let HO walk into their base or stand at a corner and spam. and you're a newbie dipshit pls dont post here.
you're either a troll, a newbie, or retarded. I don't care to know which, either way this is obviously a lost cause :[
easy to talk shit when you fail to address any of my points. douchebag. maybe because you cant? either case. 22s D was lacking. you got by because besides 5150 there was no other real team on the ladder. and yeah you can scratch motb and oshit out too because they were good but not close to 5150 or 22. 5150 beat you because they had the better defense. pls deny this so I can laff at you.

but im sure the next #1 team in tribes, or in legions, will be known for their great offense. that of course will be a first...but anythings possible.
making shit up that had no relevance to the outcome of the match in order to support your inane theory are not "points". I believe thats called nonsense.
5150 had us raped better on cavern. You can tell by when the scores spike back and forth when who had who raped. a chase ld would not have helped. an HD with a stable connection who got more than 5 fps, that most definitely would have, and prob would have won us cavern as well.
its hard to mount an offense or defense when you have no base.
Welcome to Tribes.
I can't beleive these things are still being discussed.

5150 beat c22 because they were better - no excuses, no bullshit.

Not sure why T:V's comp during it's "prime" is really up for discussion. No different than T2's base competition which even the teams that played during that time could care less about. There just wasn't much time to figure it all out. The maps in T:V were a lot smaller, the physics were different, grapple introduced an entirely new way of playing; there are countless reasons.

You need a strong defense, not to mention T:V was quite different than T1/T2 in the base/raping aspect. I know rapture had the success that we did because we ALWAYS stacked our offense. 8/6 split was the most defense we would use. If anything we would use strats that sent 7-8 HO at the start to wear the other team down and then shift the cappers we had playing LD at the start back to offense. Can't say I ever expected my d to stop the other team at the start, but once our offense got rolling there wasn't much of an excuse for the d not to hold up. We always used the mentality of the best defense is a good offense and it worked for us.

what the fucking fuck

anyone who says defense wins games obviously didn't play t1 SH or DX

yes having better defensive players would help but that doesn't make the argument that "defense wins games"
Who is doublelong?
wow i come back and theres arguments for
defense > offense
rofl
teams aren't going to win shit if they dont have quality LO and capper decoys like myself on offense

just another blitz. and judging by the way he types, probably 14 or 15 years old. who the fuck says "laff"?
This is the rundown of what happens in most fairly evenly matched CTF games in T:V. Both teams grab the flags. Each team dedicates chasers to get the flags back, while they occasionally dedicate one or two of the former cappers to protect the flag carrier. This produces a stalemate for a while, because the chasers and the defenders wind up balancing each other out (in the ideal situation). this stalemate typically continues until one team knocks the other teams base out and the flag carrier defenders are not able to protect the flag carrier anymore because they are ill equipped. The flag carrier dies, the flag is returned and the team that was able to hold down the base and disorient the flag carrier defenders wins. So as a broad outlook, offense has to beat defense to win matches.

Also, I really hope those matches that you all were talking about are demoed, cause else that's pretty bad to remember them so intricately after almost 3 or 4 years.

but if the servers magically preferred to give more lag to 5150, 22 would have won...(laffs @ julius)

lag was evenly spread. players getting kicked by the server was not thanks for confirming my suspicions that you have no idea what you're talking about as you don't even know what happened.
they did outplay us the 2nd match though no excuses. they had some excellent use of the rover on both maps.
No really.

Who the hell is doublelong?

And what kind of name is that...
of course the lag was evenly spread. servers don't usually make one team lag more over the other...laff. funny you took what I said literally, heh. regardless, had your defense been better you probably would have won cavern. oh and we could go and argue the only reason 22 caught up on cavern was when slut lagged out and thus 5150's defense suffered...
