Browsing a few forums, I saw the idea of a "community server". Like, someone pays $10 a month, and you get to borrow the server for scrims/matches. When its not in use, it turns into a pub and the paying people get SA. I thought the idea was kinda cool. There would be 2 or 3 servers probably, just depending on how many people sign up.
I would think that T:V will have the same thing happen to it that UT2004 already has. . . There will be like 100982734098127349876 servers sitting empty, i would say it would be easy to get a server for scrims and PU's and practice as long as the admins advertise their servers are avaliable..
we should designate a server right off the bat to be the competitive pub that always has good players circulating through it, kinda how raptures server was.
When T:V comes out, I doubt pubs will be hard to find. There probably won't be 1 competitive pub, there will be multiple competitive pubs. Competitive pubs are usually established due to how stable a server is, good pings, admins, team recognition and last but not least, who and what caliber of talent frequent the pub. Trying to "designate" what server will be the popular competitive pub isn't usually how it works out. People will advertise their server, if people play on the server and like it, then they will probably frequent the server more often. Personally, I'm not going to pub on a crappy server with bad pings and bad admins just because someone "designated" it to be "THE Competition Pub". People have gotten too used to how T1 and T2 is right now having only a couple servers to choose from.
Vengeance will have a feature describing player skill levels on each server, (beginner, intermediate and advanced, or something like that) so players who chose to join an advanced level server know what they're getting into.
I'm sure teams will continue to advertise the top servers and post about pick up games and such on the forums.
...and Techlogic makes a good point. If the server is high quality connection, adequate cpu and well run, they will come!
