Some Key Points:
Getting Closer -
"...I'm writing this as we are approaching alpha on Tribes: Vengeance."

Tunneling and other movement obstacles solved:
"The good news is that all of these problems in the movement have been solved and Tribes: Vengeance is well on its way towards being released as a successful product!"

Collision detection vs. high speed rate:
"The two important features of this new physics system is that it has completely new collision detection routines, and that it is able to handle high speeds perfectly:

The collision detection was completely rewritten treating the players as two overlapping spheres instead of a cylinder. This is fast and robust enough to allow the player to walk on virtually any object and stops the player catching on rough edges as they move around over complex geometry.

As the player goes faster, our collision detection system adjusts so that it never moves far enough in one step to tunnel, no matter how fast the player is traveling. Effectively it subdivides and does more collision checks as the player's speed increases. "

ofn?

oops, wrong site.

That was an interesting read. I'm anxious to try out the skiing since it sounds as though much effort has been put into tweaking it to appeal to various skill levels.

"Now that skiing is no longer a side effect from repeated jumping, jumping and thrusting have been combined so that when you thrust you automatically jump. The vast majority of the time this is what is desired, so it makes sense to do this by default."

So... is jumping removed from the game?
I think not, its just that you dont need to do it to ski. It'll probably be much more limited and only really useful indoors.

jumping is still in... but now when you start to jet, it will jump for you automatically.

the thing that bothers me is whether skiing is automatic (no tapping or holding space bar) it will just do it automatically when you are going downhill? if that's the case, then that's bs because there are times when you need to slow yourself down and not ski down hills.
Just do what Banshee does.

With all the trees we've seen in screenshots, shouldn't be a problem.
