Will TWL be the ladder for TV?

Or will more competent sites take over for Tribes Competition? Curious what you guys think?

BBJ
Personally I think it will start out very distributed but TWL will have the best competition because of previously experienced players.

As time passes you never know what'll happen, I wouldn't be surprised if a different organization took the lead by offering prizes or something.
Ever since the en mass leaving of tribes players from OGL several years ago, TWL has/is the defining tribes ladder. All the experienced players play here, and it will probably stay that way.

I've heard rumors of =V=, 5150, and NutShot saying they were going to move over to the CAL ladders given the opportunity, nothing substantial... just a couple rumors from mostly reliable sources that i've heard... so idk... but i'll go wherever the best competition is... i have no reservations about leaving or staying with TWL.
if cal has t:v ladders, u can be assured that the skill will flock there for the simple reason they offer up prizes and cash. and CAL is just one step from CPL which we all know is the big bank of gaming
While Im sure most teams would play Cal...again, they tried that before also if you remember. Im sure most teams would play both, as they are different formats. But also, have your well informed sources look at the staff page, heh...I think you could assume at least a couple of those teams will be competing here.
I'm sure top teams will play on many ladders.

I know that TWL will be one of them.
imho yes. these guys have held this ladder together for years now (thanks btw) and i hope thta they will continue to be able to. it's takes community support not only financially but support from the gamers and sierra.

if the gamers leave, obviously the ladders will close.

i think sierrra would do wise... =VERY WISE= to incorporrate the 'irc.dynamix.com back in the tribes games. that way you won't have two seperate communities within the game. forr a whil there were t1 irc teams for t2, and a seperate group of teams who used specifically the t2 irc client. from my personal experience, i didn't know about the t1 irc until about 9 months after starting to play the game.

basically what that means is that we need some kind of messages referring to twl and the t1 irc to try to grow this community from the few thousand we have now. lack of information kept the community from growing imho.

what do you think about that?

me, I don't care how many ladders there are. Simple fact is, people will play where the top competition is.

The more competition the better, if a team can play actively across 3-4 ladders then more power to them. I personally would prefer this because it means less time practicing and more realtime work ingame with your teammates on what counts - getting the job done when you need to get it done, not countless hours of boredom in a locked private server.

For one, I don't trust a several of the "important" admins over there. I wouldn't want to put myself in the position of HAVING to play there, and basically supporting their "dominance" of competition (since a majority of Tribes1 players would probably play there; which seems like a larger group of people over TWL people).

I think it would be extremely weak if TW were to start a ladder, knowing that TWL is (of course) going to to have TV ladders. All it would do is split the competition (even more), and there would be even more feuding/arguing about 'which ladder is better than which ladder', etc (even more "elitism").

Bottom line: I don't trust TW heads to run a ladder, like I trust TWL (Triston/Polaris to pick good admins) to run a ladder. Plus, I like this (TWL)side of the community better than TW's "T1 players > T2 players" attitude(s). I for one, will be playing here, if TW opens a ladder.

They haven't shown a lot of wisdom with this game over the years.

Curious to see who can put together tournaments and gift/cash awards in conjunction with their ladder or tournament services. That group (TWL, CPL, TW or some other unknown) will or potentially would see the most competition activity with T.V.

Bottom line is when Vengeance hits the shelves we won't be T1 players or T2 players, we'll all be T:V players and in the same boat. A few disks to the face of haters is all it takes to shut them up and let them know we're all from the same background in one way or another.

And don't think for a second that TW having a possible ladder would make it bigger simply because it's a mainstay of T1 forum conversation. When T2 came out I'm willing to bet that 50% or more of the teams on both OGL and TWL were not those you would consider to be from the TribalWar crowd. Many played T1, many came from various other gaming communities, but maybe half of them knew of and/or read Tribalwar.com when the ladders first fired up.

I think the close ties with twl and 5150 will help twl stay around with Tribes regardless of what other ladders/leagues do. I remember for a long time teamplay was very popular, not because it was "THE" ladder , because it wasn't but because it was more of a scrimmage ladder. Some teams just wanted to play and have fun, not all teams can compete at the levels many of you are use too. "IF" T:V is big there will be a TON of new players/teams, many can't wont compete on BIG ladders, because they just cant.
if CAL actually embraces CTF, it might split the CTF community somewhat. I think it might actually be a little bit difficult for some teams to manage playing in a league and on a ladder at the same time, and if they have to make the choice some of them are going to pick CAL.

If TW starts a ladder, that's going to potentially attract the T1ers that hate TWL for whatever reason, and there seem to be quite few of them, and perhaps newbs that aren't at all aware of TWL, but do through the magic of search engines know about TW.

I'd think that the bulk of the T2 community, probably at least half of the T1 community, and most of the people that play other games on TWL but want to play T:V competatively will continue to play here. Along with a whole crop of total newbs.

Whether or not TWL is the defacto source of competition for T:V will be determined mostly by where the vet teams go.

Has there been any word from TRD about the potential of him re-offering the $2000 for top rung of the ladder thing again in T:V? Of course now wouldn't be the optimal time to announce something like that.
oh, and if CAL adopts a non-ctf gametype for some reason, i'm really not sure how that will effect the community at all. It would definately be incentive for a lot of people to focus on that gametype.

I don't have TW account , also those people are weird over there, I am scared. It is like first day of school jitters going to TW.
Players will ultimately make their league and ladder choices based on quality and features, as they always have.
Unless there is a reason why I couldn't I will continue with TWL and BEML
i will be playing where bbj isnt
i play where dan tells me to play.

I am sure it is like that with many other players, the leader / team captains decide not really the individual player.
we are SLAVES!

Of course, just as I have made mine. But it will still suck having SOME of the competition goto another ladder within the same community (we know some will). It would hurt competition either way we look at it, so I hope it's avoided.

the asshole of the tribes community

However, for the top levels of play, competition supercedes this, and the top levels of play are drawn in by prizes and CPL events of which CAL is the gateway. Which means if T:V were to become very popular, CAL would have the most concentrated top competition for very obvious reasons.

I don't think CAL would split the competition at all. If anything, they would raise the bar. I'm sure that a lot of the top and middle tier teams that consider attending the CPL wouldn't hesitate to join.

He lies. He follows me around like a spurned woman. I saw him rubbing up against my backside on Rapture East last night trying to get my E-pheromones.

True, True. CAL and TWL will most likely be stacked full of teams if T:V is a great game. I could see TWL becoming a scrim ladder type thing, kinda like teamplay was.
I would prefer CAL, mainly because a game just being on CAL attracts new gamers. Wouldn't you all like to have a chance at thrashing a team like 3D or Doctors ala 5150 vs Skillz?

But if the game really does fucking own, I don't really care where I play it, as long as it's in A FUCKING LEAGUE! League = flourishing competition, ladder = stagnant inactivity.
5150 will be playing on TWL.

Apparently not too reliable sources.
i think that to make ladder games more fun, twl could say have tournaments every month or whatever. Lets say top 16 teams on ladder, march madness style. that way its more fun then just boring ladder, and also teams would compete hard to make into top 16, and the better u are, the easier the road so try hard to get betetr seed. as well say if TRD or TWL can offer prizes they can pay for this tourney instead of the ladder standings. This was there's no disputes who's better and luck and timing, bla bla crap from who's first say on the payout date. seems like fun and extending the regular ladder, plus to be in $$$ tourney a team would have to be on the ladder, so twl and competion wins.
I've heard that there are issues TWL has with providing tournaments with entry fees, not sure if CPL has the same challenge. Although entry fee type tournaments would kill some teams/players ability to compete it does provide incentives to teams and players who have the ability to handle the costs. I hope that TWL would be able to handle this type of tournament in the future or be associated with a company or service that would be able to provide it.
Where competition ends up for T:V in terms of its most active competition will soley rest on the games popularity. In a fantasy world where T:V were to become as popular as CS (ridiculously unlikely), then any top team worth a shit would be on CAL for sure. Simply because the opportunities for sponsorship and playing in high money lan tournaments hosted by CPL are too large to ignore.

Can you counter balance that with playing on a ladder like TWL? Sure. It's likely though that if T:V ever did get to such a point most teams would focus entirely on CAL and not play on TWL. Now, in this fantasy scenario, I could see top competition playing on both CAL and TWL at the same time if TRD were to be shelling out 2-4k a month as prize money again. That'd certainly be enough incentive to play both.

On that note though, if TRD does decide to shell out thousands of month to the #1 team on the ladder, for the love of god wait a month or so for the ladder to settle or something. Something just isn't right that "kung fu clan" can get 2k for doing absolutely nothing except signup first. :o
