I just got done testing the fans version and i must say Adam "Eradicator" Jones you have made the game worth playing again saber damage is back to the way it was and grip doesn't show a hand when in use, makes it more efective in a time when grippers are no so common. I think this new mod should be implemented in to TWL to make the game More realistic. I give it 5 stars. Here is the link to download if anyone who would like the old damage back.....
By the way you can BS and the danage isn't nearly as bad. No more 1 hit kills and now sabering requires real skill, the way it should be.

Download from here

Everyone plz leave a reply Neg or Pos so TWL knows what the fans want!

In 1.03a backstab was fixed, that's nothing new. All of the new mods in development will probably fix BS, and have a LOT more than saber damage tweaks. Personally I'm waiting for JK++, which is going to be server side, meaning no downloading anything. I played beta 1 a few days ago, and it was pretty awesome. Anyway, it is much too early to make a switch to the first fan patch that comes out.
Hey, I'm interested in checking out new mods and all, but I have to agree with Zephorath that we don't want to rush in supporting any new mods. I'd like to give the developers a chance to release their own patches for a while before abandoning the base JK2 and swearing fealty to a particular mod. I mean the game is only a few months old...

Throw tomatoes at me if you want, but I don't see how BS needed "fixed". People complain a lot about it but the "one-shot kill" isn't as easy to pull off as some would say. That's especially true for people that know how to defend against it.

The BS is a slow maneuver that's hard to recover from if you miss. It leaves you vulnerable and exposed. If you don't think it requires "real skill" to get close to someone, expose your back, and make a slow BS attack, then I have to strongly disagree with you. It's a "special" maneuver that should be used to finish off opponents quickly.

BS is the designed the way it is to balance guns. The game was designed to be used in a sabers vs guns situation. Even getting close enough for the BS can be a chore if they are firing rockets, heavy repeater secondary fire, or flechette secondary fire. If you nerf BS then you are unbalancing it for guns, and I think you'll see a glorified Q3 game play.

If someone has specific information on what 1.03a "fixed" as far as BS, I'd like to read it. I'm not opposed to making changes to BS if the balancing is well-thought out. I trust that Raven will do their best at maintaining that balance.
*Grabs a tomatoe* Since you asked so nicely, Bro :cackle: Anyway...

I like the way you said that Bro. I always thought that the BS took skill and was one of the last things raven should consider nerfing (I don't mind rumors that you might not be able to turn in BS anymore, that just prevents lucky end strike kills, honestly) but I don't think I could have put it as eliqantly as you did. And yes.. my spelling suXX0rz.. ^-^

When 1.03 was released I was sickened by all the nerfing that went on. Not only were GUNS nerfed, but SABERS were as well. It's like no ground was acheived for either Guns nor sabers. Over time, I came to understand the patch and accept it. It just took time to get used to not having so much ammo and finding new ways to kill opponents who were on the ground. The BS in NOTHING NEW! I was killing ppl afer I pulled them to the ground, only before the patch it was only with a well placed heavy swing. Did ppl care? No.. cause it wasn't a "special" move.

Now.. I said I got used to the nerfing.. but that in NO way means that I would want them to do it again. Taking away too much over time just removes the things that makes a game special. I'm just getting tired of people complaining because they don't know how to counter it yet and get killed by it alot.

Anyway, I've been silent on this whole patch thing too long I guess and I needed to rant. I guess I went off topic too.. but I will say this, I really apperciate modders trying to make things for JK2, but mods just to get rid of the patch or the BS.. are just.. I dunno.. seems ridiculous to me.

I'll part with saying thank you for the info on the mod and trying to get everyone to take notice of the JK2 mod community. Hopefully it will grow and flourish.

i think the worse in all that is that a new patch will soon be release.

People will find flaw, and then will complain again.

im used to 1.03 now and can play it will and even be good at it ... yes it took me mine ... that's why im asking : " Do i want to take the time to learn how to fight every 2 month ?" .. the answer is no ...

There will always be people that arent satisfied with the patch ... even with another one .... its impossible to make a game perfect for EVERYBODY.

sure there is some bug ... the down slash (blue Style) while in air is one ...

moving while BS is maybe another one ... people want it to be remove .. fine with me ! but what do you will find after that

people will then complain that JO dont have anymore good special move ...

*sigh*

i was in top 10 before the 1.03 patch ... im still there and i'll try to stay there for long time ... thats mean you can bring me any patch and i'll learn how to play it ... but its damn annoying to learn to play a patch everytime ...

maybe i didnt say anything good for this thread but i release some old sh*t in my hearth .. lol

thats was a pleasure
bravo ,, bravo potatoe
"There will always be people that arent satisfied with the patch ... even with another one .... its impossible to make a game perfect for EVERYBODY."

I agree, except raven screwed the game up for both gunners AND saberists.
If you guys think about it, what would be the best way to fix things? No, not to get rid of backstab. How about increase saber damage so that backstabs would be more dangerous? It certainly would take away from the assfighters, which I don't mind by the way.

I don't mind 1.03 either, I don't feel like learning style after style...after you master the sabering, you ahve to switch. I say keep it as it is, unless the next patch or mod is THAT much better.

Anyways..I have been idle on the ladders for a while now...since I have been practicing 1.03. I think I'm ready to jump back in .
It has been suggested multiple times by Raven that there won't be a new patch for JK2. That's in e-mails and interviews.

Not saying there won't be one, but I really wouldn't get your hopes up.
Hubris that is why stuff is being developed. The best way to fix things would be to simply increase saber damage to the way it was in 1.02, and fix gun ammo consumption. [WD] is currently developing JK2++, which will be 'that much better.'
Head on over to http://dev.wdonline.com and check it out.
Playing beta 1 is a huge improvement in gameplay over both 1.02 and 1.03. It does take some getting used to, and I may sound biased, but playing it renewed my enjoyment for the game. You can play it (its server side) at 166.90.203.203:28070. Just keep in mind that it is missing some features.
Hey, I just want to thank everyone for not throwing too many tomatoes.

Seriously, this is the kind of communication I like to see in the forums. People sharing their opinions and information in a friendly and efficient manner. Thx
I'm aware of that, the comment was directed to posts like this:

"I'd like to give the developers a chance to release their own patches for a while before abandoning the base JK2 and swearing fealty to a particular mod"

"i think the worse in all that is that a new patch will soon be release."

Personally I'd like to see Raven hold a contest for an official patch. I mean, if they're gonna abandon their product they could at least do it with a bit of grace and in a way that won't splinter whatever remnant of the community is left into folks fighting over which mod is better.

Incidentally, I believe Lucasarts is also partly responsible for the lack of patches, not just Raven, the interviews I've read imply that Raven is under contract from Lucasarts, and Lucasarts doesn't wanna pay them any more money to continue to make patches.
Like a lot of JK2 fans, when I first played 1.03 I was REALLY pissed off... No more could I solely rely on good timing and heavy stance, and people were appearingly just swinging randomly and beating me - The worst offence were the people that just switch to weak stance and run backwards, trying to get a lucky one-hit kill..

BUT, now that I've taken the time to get good again, I'm actually kinda pleased with the changes they made - Getting killed by a backstab/backsweep isn't THAT much more annoying then getting killed by the tip of the saber from the very end of a heavy slash or DFA... Admittedly, being able to turn while doing a backstab/sweep kinda seems to defeat the purpose (How is it a 'back'stab if you can swing around & hit people in front of you?), but not very many players are dishonourable enough to overuse it. Not only that, but the medium jumping move actually has a purpose now (did it do ANY damage in 1.02??)

Saber battles are a lot more exhilarating than they were before and certainly require more skill (you really have to think what direction you move your saber now and the only 'lucky' hits you get are off the back-stab/sweep). I'm a bit dubious of how the changes make ping play a much larger role, but C'est la vie I guess Overall Raven did good - The only change I'd make would be to lock the back-stab/sweep moves so that they can only be aimed backwards & not turned to be 360 degree moves...

What I think the home-brew mods should be working on now is improving the game, rather than trying to 'fix' the balancing - the Kaiburr saga is a great example and I'm eagerly awaiting that (who doesn't want to play with two sabers or a double-ended saber?!) http://www.kaiburrsaga.com/

Anyway, that's my view on things, hope I didn't bore anyone
