Xp Home Network config

Ok I need some help here. Im pretty good at networking, mostly because i go to lans alot. but im a little bit confused here. can anyone help? i have a router and 2 computers. Both are on the same network. both are pluged in, both are runing Xp home they cant see each other on the network, one has internet the other doesnt. Ive run setup wizard a billion times. any ideas?

make sure cards/cables/router work

screw the internet set wizard


go to the dos prompt

do

ipconfig /release

then

ipconfig /renew

see if that helps

try going to your system properties. windows(key) + pause/break(key). then go to the tab "computer name" then run the "network ID" wizard, on both computers. then reboot.

I had the same problem. then i ran the "network ID" wizard. then it worked. btw. i have XP Pro. i don't know if it's different than Home.

home is just...bad...built in backdoor....ya know... anyway.
It does say it has problems renewing ip adress im not sure exactly what is says. Ill try the things you said. thanks guys.

uuhh When i tryed ipconfig /renew it said acsess is denied. and i cant find network id wizard.

try setting your TCP/IP ip properties. make sure it is set to AUTOMATIC on both computers.

and yes xp home is a bitch w/ networks.

if you get access denied on that, it's either that

a) your not the admin

b) xp home is a waste of perfectly good cds that could be used by aol to spam people with their software

-check power switches

-check to make sure both are on the same workgroup

-check to make sure the computers see THEMSELVES on the network

-ensure you are using the right options in the wizard for your sutation

-check the router lights for activity from both ends

-run the router setup util by connecting to the router

-kick yourself in the face for being a dumbass and missing somthing obvious

I agree, I had something i didnt understand so i asked a question, i thought i might be yelled at but i posted it anyway, everyone seemed nice enough and i was saying to myself "wow, everyone is being really nice." but without fail you show up, belittling people for no reason. I had to do some shit with the config of the router, Yes know, Allow access, i had to be admin or something like that
