I have noticed lately lots of peeps hidden' their identity. I just wanted to post a question on why?

From what I heard its mostly just not wanted to "live up to someone's expectations". Anyways.. I kinda find it funny... I created my own secret identity.. Shh!!
I alias when I pub.

1. No questions about TWL etc..

2. No pressue, I don't have to live up to any expectations.

3. I can try different strategies and play different positions
without worrying about how much I suck at them.

4. its fun.

I like to pretend I'm a noob and...oh wait I am a noob, nm.
i dont play jk2 unless its a match but im DSbr-HaZe if ur referring to me. My DSbr-HaZe name has no email so i cant reactivate it hehe
haze shut up. xoxoxo

People always alias. This is common in online gaming. People really do take this game very seriously and they don't want their precious online identity tarnished or their ego's bruised. They use an alias JUST IN CASE someone more skilled comes to the server and hands them their ass. If that happened...THE BETTER player wouldn't know who he beat so therefore his nice little online persona is unharmed.

Now the REAL funny part comes after the GAYlias plays for a while and notices that he is in the lead or "kickin newb ass" and UN-aliases right as he leaves the server. I find this funny. That just shows he has no faith in his skills. I see it all the time.

Or sometimes you will see people with "excuse names". In example..

Hoby|newconnection
Hoby|testingnewcfg
Hoby|newmouse

..therefore JUST IN CASE someone better comes along or if they play like shit people won't think they are newbs. haha. It is funny how serious some people take online shit.

Just a game. Don't hate me if you suck at it.

So in closing, hoby. People will always alias and there is nothing you can do about it.

Admins, lock this thread for I have educated this community.
LMAO, or1on hit it on the head!! I would always go in as my alias, but then when the scores come up and if I'm in the top spot it would suddenly change to my TK handle, especially when I'm playing against my clan mates.

Don't generalize thx
I speak the truth.
Doh, sorry. or1on hit it on the head for me!
Sorry but I have to say this Zeph. Your a prime example.

from your post...
2. No pressue, I don't have to live up to any expectations.

3. I can try different strategies and play different positions

---

2.) What expectations? The expectations that people have of team valar? Well, valar is a good clan and if you got into the clan you MUST be good right? hmm...

3.) Who cares?! If its just a pub it doesnt MATTER and if YOU know that YOU are testing something out that's all there is to think about. This just proves my point about how people worry on how others online view their persona. What is said online must play a bigger part to you than even YOU may not be aware about.

I am not trying to BELITTLE you or DEMEAN you in anyway. I am just stating the facts.

I am not generalizing.

Yes you are.

2. Yes, I can live up to the expectations of team valar, however it is difficult with a p3 550 and playing on a server with 16 people. It IS difficult for me to play my best like this.

3. True enough, however I don't 'worry' about what others think of me at all, I just don't want to spend my time playing rather than talking to people I know. Yes, I'm not very good at defense, but I don't feel like dealing with 13 year old kids with large egos, as it interferes with me trying to play.

No, I am not one of those people.

Personally I think it's pretty stupid. I dunno why people care so much what other players think of them when it's just a simple pub. I think most people know by now that with all the random tactics from newbies that it's gonna effect how you play in a game. That and the fact that for a lot of people (including me) pubs are used to practice new tactics and not show off skill in front of 10 other newbies lol.

Just wear your real name when you play. It makes a pub more fun when you know who you're really playing with
Thank God I am not the only one with a P3-550.
Hoby, check your icq plz asap

Neither do I zeph. Here is a helpfull suggestion not just for you , but for other players as well.

In q3 there are 2 console commands that you may want to use.

/cl_noprint 1 You will not see anything anyone says.
/cg_teamChatsOnly 1 You will only see what people on YOUR team say. Kind of nice for when you are scrimming a clan and you don't want to hear the other team bitch.

They SHOULD work concidering the game in on the q3 engine. I have yet to try them on JKO.
I think you can change that in the setup, game options.
people care about pubs because idiots like rusted think they make u elite. I have seen the best players in the world(q3) use aliases. ZeRo4 has aliased in matches where he has won 50-0. the fact is people do it for the reasons orion stated and sometimes others. i sometimes alias jk2 pubs because i say i dont play jk2 and every now and then i will actually play it, or since im dsbr i dont want idiots like rusted thinking they own our clan when ive played the game a whole 5 times

I never alias. Not that anyone cares.

It just occured to me that even if I did, nobody would know. Plus, I haven't played on your servers.

Had a cool alias story to tell.

I found server emtpy..(found out cause it was crashing so I ended up rebooted.. frig'n 1.04 suxors serverside it appears).

Anyways.. It was just me and a padawan. Well I'm thinking that I better go lite on this guy known'n that if I do anything good he will leave the game. So I go easy on him at fist, then I start realizing this guy is pretty damn good... Next thing you know hes got my flag and capped.. Damn alias fooled me!!!

Now I wish'n I was better at O on BES. Uggg.. Hehehe..Because this alias was just show'n me up
