Many of you know me as coming from ninjamod, and i've tried my best to keep that mod alive, right up to recoding the entire thing. Its gotten to the point that when we do recode the mod, we wont EVER have enough players to have a ladder. Anyway, i'd like to suggest some ideas for Renegades, considering you HAVE coders who would like to help out.
1. Set up a noob server- Not just a server that says "ren-noobs" or something, but a server with admins who can join and help new players learn the mod. This was what we did in ninjamod, and it DID help a lot in gaining more people to the mod. In addition, scripting an extra little addition- Weapon info on arming, ie, when you select the vulcan, you get a brief description of what it does and how it works. this would in essence make this a new mod to renegades(i say this for coders only), but it really wouldnt require all that much more work.
2. Dont gangbang on servers. I've seen a lot of ren clans that like to play on the same team as their teammates, and will switch to "be with their clanmates" This in effect ruins the inherent balence of the mod. Say 6 p9 guys played on one team against a bunch of noobs and common pubbers? It causes people to leave the server, and the mod.
3. I know people have been trying to put a cap on the limit of players any clan can get. I agree you shouldnt be able to do that. BUT, in the competitive spirit of the ladder, what if you added it such that the top 4-6 clans in the ladder were NOT allowed to gain any new players? The idea came to me as i watched MDC disband, i really thought they could be the best clan in the mod with practice, they had very good players. What worries me is that some of the top clans will try to pick the former MDC up, and players are happy to join them because hey, who doesnt want to be on a winning team?
4. Lastly, Some of the better players should start their own clans( not leave their own clans, but start a new one and give them direction), and pick up players that Arent in ren clans yet, but still have potential to be really good. I did this in ninjamod. I made a clan called fireninjas, and made an additional clan for the TWL at the time. Basically, i knew that i couldnt just wait around for enough clans to join the mod, i had to make them myself.
