I just want to clarify what is an acceptable connection for dedicated servers to run on. When running a match level dedicated server it should not be connected to anything less than a T1. This means that cable or xDSL connections are not acceptable. Why is this you might ask? Well quite simply cable and DSL connections are typically half duplex meaning you can either send or receive data but not to both simultaniously. In the case of a SDSL, while the upload and download speeds might be the same, its still half duplex and will not provide the same level of permorance as a T1 or above. I meantion this again because of the number of complaints I receive from people every week regarding poor pings or flakey lag. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Yes and No. T1 speed is better for lots of players, far greater than 4 at a time on a server. For the 2 vs 2 TDM games, the bandwidth of 128kupload and 768kdnload from a typical cable or dsl connection is adequate for 4 players max. I have run many small 4 player servers on mohaa and Quake3 with no complaints on 4 players. Once a 5th or 6th player connects, that 128kb upload speed gets too small! So I don't entirely agree with your assessment at all!! Corona&Limes
The rules clearly state that 2 man matches do NOT require a Dedicated server. This applies to dedicated servers for 6 v 6 and above. And again, it has less to do with bandwidth and more to do with the service level of the line you are connected to (duplex).

Dont you just wish that people would read the rules!

So, for us that can't read between the lines...

A server for the 2 man ladder does not have to be dedicated, meaning that it doesn't have to be on a "high bandwidth" line (ie. cable/dsl)?
No, incorrect. By "dedicated", I am referring to the server, NOT the line on which the server is run from.
Cable isnt really good for 12 players, its more for 8 and thats even pushing it.

OK, I was a little unclear in my statement earlier...

6v6 ladder -- dedicated server, T1+ internet connection for that server

2v2 ladder -- non-dedicated server, cable/dsl internet connection for that server

Correct?
A server capable of handling up to 4 players is necessary for every match. The server does not have to be running in dedicated mode, however, the server MUST be available for a team to test 48 hours before the match.

If 56k could handle 4 players with no lag (dont bet your life on it) this statement means you could use that 56k for the rounds.
