I know that going underground on maps during a match is considered cheating. but what about the rooftops? someone told me it was legal, is it?

i dunno, but..

the feeling i sometimes get is that if you can't get up there on your own, then maybe it isn't a spot that should be used in a match...

It depends upon where you go. Roof tops are legal if you get can get there. However, if you or going places that you appear to be walking in mid air then its obvious that you are exploiting a bug in the map.
Its perfectly legit to get on the roof and snipe from Church roof on the hunt. However, going on the roof in Destroyed village to jump off the back and go under the map is not. I highly recommend that people completely stay away from doing things that appear to be exploiting cheats in the game. If you are hanging around on the roof in Destroyed Village you can bet your bottom dollar that someone is going to accuse you of cheating.
Basically look at it from the stand point of what could actually be done during war. There is no reason a sniper couldn't get on a roof and snipe. Just keep in mind taht it does leave you exposed from behind.

So, while going on the roof to snipe on Destroyed Village is legal, but using the roof to go underground is not? I know what the rules say, and I know that sitting on the roof can be misconstrued as an attempt at cheating.

Without the ability to record demos of the match (ala Tribes2), what can be done from standpoint of the person/team that is accused of cheating?

Maybe to make things a little clearer, should it be made illegal to be on the roof in Destroyed Village?

I like sniping up there. It should not be illegal to use that as a normal playing area-but going under the map isnt right. Why dont we just make a fix that wont let you get under the map?
There is a fix, which wont allow you to go on the roof, hence not going under the map.

yea there are fixes for several maps like a crashed german plane blocking the way to the roof in the destroyed village.
yeah, i know that using the roof to get underground isnt allowed, plus it isnt cool. but i know of rooftops on almost every level that you can get on. i just wanted to know what was legal and what wasnt.

Good post Davis....cause I have a question about this also Varisty or TC: On Algiers there is a spot ontop of the Bizarre roof that overlooks the stairs. When you reach the roof from the stairs directly across from it and kinda to the left is a spot I have seen peeps get on. I checked it out one night and I think its supposed to be a roof but there is no roof there lol.. I guess EA didnt think people could get up there.

Thoughts V or TC?
TC or Varsity??
As a general rule, if you look down and see nothing...then you aren't supposed to be there. =) Because you can see below you but you can't be shot from below. I'm not sure of the exact spot you are referring to but contact me via email if this doesn't answer your question and you can show me. =)

Since you see through the roof on destroyed village, does that mean it's off-limits as well?

Yes, any place on a map that you see nothing or appear to walk on air a defect/bug in the map. If you are caught exploiting it you are cheating and you and your team will be punished accordingly.
