RCON Exchange?

As I read the rules currently in effect, there is no requirement that teams exchange the rcon password. If a team refuses to exchange the rcon password, it is almost impossible to catch certain rule violations. Why don't the rules require a rcon password exchange? What harm would occur if there was such a requirement?
They could perform an rcon quit, or edit configs... multiple things.
people pay for there servers so twl has no rite to enforce such a rule.... also rconpassword does nuthin to check for cheats.... admins are required to get it thoe when spectating
It can't be legally forced. However as part of playing in Teamwarfare teams are asked to give rcon to the admins if needed.

If your refering to server settings you can always ask that the server admin take a SS of console after issuing the command "rcon serverinfo". (This really has never been an issue except for the occassional mistake in the timelimit)

If your refering to skin checks you only need to have NO force models, then you can see if they are following the skin rule.

what about checking ip's and if they are forceing models on the other team, but we have never had a problem of getting or giving rcon

Problem is you can't see what skin they have set to your team for their options this way.

IP status screenshot is required to be taken by the server admin. If you feel their is a smurf then an admin can look into it and request the status SS.

Very true, but I don't think its really a concern with Pandora running. As always if you feel something is fishy and should be looked at by an admin try to see if one is available to check it out.

Wrong. What about players who are dead changing skins and directing living players to the action? Also, to get a screenshot of someone who has changed skins is next to impossible because a hacked skin would allow them to pick me off at farther distances. Simply relying on sight doesn't work.

Pandora doesnt solve the problem of players forcing other skins on their opponents. I think everyone in this forum has heard of the workaround. And get an admin? I can see it now, "Im dropping out of the server and coming back with an admin. Dont touch anything until I return." LOL. Hey, this is huge problem that could be solved by exchanging the rcon password. The password could be changed right after the match. No harm whatsoever in doing it.

Your comments were already answered. Your points are known and the arguement is its hardly a problem with pandora and CS combined.

With CS screenshots can be forced so if you feel something is not right then get an admin who is available and they will be more then glad to check it out.

You might be able to just save yourself the hassle and just ask the other team to exchange rcon with you. I'm sure you'll find the large majority of teams willing to give that up.

The hassle is having to ask and I tend to disagree with your statement about the majority of teams willing to give it up. Im 0-3 in asking. The response is always the same -- "The rules don't require it so no way!"

Legally we can't force teams to give rcon out. The rules of the land offer protection against this.

Ok, I digress but before I go I must ask, "Your last post was a joke, right?"

This is legit. Legally teams who purchase services such as a gaming server are not obligated to give out "access" to it. Nor can a 3rd party, Teamwarfare, force a team to give it out to another team. As part of the privilege of playing at TWL teams are under guidelines that in the event an admin request rcon that it be given. However we won't overstep our bounds and force other teams to be given rcon. Teams should not have to worry about subjecting their server to possible abuse.
I disagree. You're looking at the problem from the wrong angle. By putting an rcon exchange requirement in the rules, teams have a choice on staying/joining TWL or not. If, after reading the rules, they choose to stay/join, then their agreeing to do it. No one is putting a gun to their head; no one is making them excahnge the rcon password. They're agreeing to do it.
That has been argued before. Server admins will always vote it down. This rarely comes up where players want all teams to give rcon out. However what has come up more is when teams actually do give out rcon suddenly there are problems with the server. Teams have kicked the other team out, changed rcon, changed settings and even crashed them. This is of a more pressing matter.

If you have alternate solutions or suggestions to your concerns drop me an email or come in IRC and contact me there. Remember though that if you feel you need something to be verified just contact an admin in IRC and we can check it out. The rules are set up for admins to receive rcon access for verifying match settings.

I prefer not to have the opponents rcon if i feel they are shady... i've seen some noob (for lack of a better term) teams blame crashes and various other rcon abuse from the guest team.

RAoV has always given rcon to our opposing teams. And in turn, we have always received the other teams rcon. It has never been an issue.

We simply change the rcon password to a temporary one for the current match, then change it back afterwards. None of the teams we have played against have ever abused our rcon.

Have we just been lucky?

I agree, these are all legitimate concerns, but I seem to recall that we played a team some time ago in another league who had a program called "tripwire" running on their server. They freely gave the rcon password out with the caveat that tripwire monitored the server and recorded the ip of the source of any rcon commands.

Sorry, but its not going to happen. Why? Because I can think about about 15 times that someone has had rcon access with teams they either have badblood with or dislike and those people have locked them out of their servers, kicked people during a game, changed server cvars to make it look as though the server was misconfigured or any number of other potential issues.

You will find that in most cases teams will in fact give you rcon access so that you can check these things yourself. However, TeamWarfare is not going to be liable for someone elses server by requiring that they give them rcon access. Now the flipside. IF someone does any of the things I said above and many more, while they have rcon said player will be removed from competition and the team will be subject to penalties decided upon by the ladder Sysadmin.

The Wolverines prefer to not give out rcon due to problems with doing this in the past.

It's not that we have anything to hide, but have had some of the things mentioned in previous replies happen to us, people getting kicked at crucial times etc. We are more than happy to screenshot the settings, etc., but not turn over rcon.

We have had teams threaten to get a forfeit ruling upon our refusal to turn it over, and up to this point, we have said go ahead and try. It is getting tiresome however with having to argue for 10 minutes about this issue. This puts everyone in the match in a bad state of mind. Afterall, this is supposed to be a game for fun.

The majority of the players out there are honorable. Unfortunately, a few bad eggs have ruined it for everyone else.

With all that having been said, =WV= will continue to not give out rcon and IF it were part of the rules, we would then more than likely pull out of the ladder despite our desire to play matches here with the likes of VX9, 1stRangers, Hfx and others.

Respectfully Submitted,

Kilroy

- In that case why having the rule, just allow use of any stock skins. Otherwise you will always have uncertanity without rcon access.
