Browser Games, Part 2
Ikariam
And now the one browser game I know most TWLers are interested in: Ikariam! Here at TWL, we play Ikariam almost to an obsessive, overactive, all-consuming end. Ikariam allows you to build cities, prepare them for Utopia and command land and sea battles using flame-throwing ships and troops of steam giants. This game also has its own catch phrase used quite often by its players: effe this game.
Here are some screenshots of the game supplied by Napir:

I asked a few TWLers what they thought of the game and some answers were lengthy. Sorry Xq, I don't think we should put all of yours:

Enjoy nonsense mechanics, poor implementation, disconnected developers and power-hungry forum moderators? Like working for weeks only to see it all disappear with no explanation? Have a hankering to destroy your own troops while helping your enemy defeat yourself? Have I got a game for you. So if you've replaced your sense of joy and fair play with self loathing and sarcasm, I'm sure you'll fit right in with the group of spiteful, immature, ruthless c*** suckers that call themselves TWLi. Effe this game.

Here is a screenshot of a pillage. My impression: A great pastime you can play from anywhere, especially if you travel. Also, it allows you to vary your level of involvement. Busy weeks at work? No problem, just go on (v) vacation mode. Down time? No problem, you can pick up your level of involvement as much as you desire. But the real plus is playing with a bunch of TWL members; some of us have known each other for years now. The fun transcends the game and all the friendly jibes have at least 3 or 4 stories behind. And we all feel the same about this game: Effe This Game!"

In Ikariam, a browser-based game similar to Civilization or Age of Empires, you can focus on creating your empire by building, trading, pillaging, or war. There is an aspect that can appeal to everyone, from the girls in the knitting club to the guys who follow mixed martial arts. It gives a common basis for everyone to interact, compete, and work together.
Crush your enemies or help a friend or hoard goods like a miser to build your empire. Browser-based games offer an escape from reality to put your skills to the test or to assume an alternate identity. After all, if you pretend you're a pirate and raid your neighbors for all of their goods and gold, they tend to get upset. Trust me, I tried. And you can add that Ikariam follows strict rules and those who break them have to face a Tribunal. Oh and effe this game.
Are you active in TWL? Check out the online game, Ikariam! We have two divisions: TWLi and UIN run by TotalCarnage and Gromit, respectively. These two teams hold both first and second place out of 800 teams right now. Join some of the other TWL veterans in one of those two dynamic teams. If you want to join us, we are on Gamma server on the Ikariam.com U.S. server. (Do not go to the .net server.) Get your addiction served while attacking enemies on the open sea and pillaging all of their gold and wine! After all, you wouldn't want to miss this little gem said by our Diplomat, Killet, in response to the Pope of the SCB alliance:

Anyone can find what sets them off just by doing a search on browser games and seeing what interests them. Since they are free, most times all you need is to register and start playing. Have you found your addiction?
