Gamers Holiday
Well today boys and girls I am taking virtual leave of my senses (or is it census?) to bring my twisted take on the world of gaming, E3, music, and well anything that is important to me. So, sit down while I take my game enhancing substances, and buckle up, as Betty Davis once said, Its going to be a bumpy night.
Bring Me the Head of Katharine McPhee
This week American Idol entered the Axis of Evil when the Idol contestant Katharine McPhee unleashed her Weapons of Mass Distraction upon the world. In talking to my friends (Thanks BC), we think its way too soon to know what the effect will be from this unannounced release of biological weaponry. As we know, the damage from this kind of warfare is psychological as much as physical.
McPhee chose to publicly ignore the display of mind-altering devices right under her nose and refused to speculate how this might affect her current Idol campaign.
Unfortunately, we know for sure that the Pickler contingence (which possesses fully armed warheads) is no longer in the competition. However, the question does remain: Will she use them?
We can only wait with bated breath.
Keith Richards's Diary
Last week, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards was vacationing with band mate Ron Wood in Fiji between the Far Eastern and European legs of the Stones World Tour, when 62-year-old Keith decided to climb a palm tree, reportedly to play with some coconuts (That has to be a euphemism for something vulgar). Mr. Richards botched his dismount, and went head first into the ground. This begs questioning:
So how high was he when he fell out of that tree?
Just as high as he could be.
For a man that must sleep in a coffin, this guy sure gets around.
After complaining of headaches, Mr. Richards was hospitalized. He received treatment for a blood clot in the tissue surrounding the brain. The procedure for which is to drill a hole in the skull and let the brain drain. I just have to ask. What did they find in there?
If the fall caused his face to age 10 years, would anyone notice?

There's Only One World Cup Flu.
A Dutch insurer is offering employers in the country the chance to insure themselves against the sudden rise in staff sick days expected during next month's soccer World Cup. Tens of thousands of Dutch workers phoned in ill during the European Championships in Portugal in 2004 with sickness levels rising 20 percent on days when the Dutch national side played. "We are expecting a lot of claims," said Dennis Massaar of insurer SEZ.
I mean can you imagine not going to work because of a stupid game? Who would ever do such a despicable and deplorable thing OK, I would, but only after the SuperBowl, or maybe to make sure my final four brackets were PERFECT, or maybe the Friday before the Kentucky Derby, or the Preakness, or the Belmont Stakes (if the Triple Crown was on the line), or maybe even opening day of Baseball season, but the first day of the World Cup .?
I had not thought of that yet. Note to self - Plan sick days in June.

A Smooth-Running E3 is a Relaxing Experience.
Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is a time of great anticipation and hope in the gaming industry. Many careers are made and fortunes won and lost during this event. All the big names are there Sony with their Playstation 3 Nintendo with their Wii (that really does sound wrong) and at least 24 people did stop playing World of Warcraft long enough to go to the exhibition.
However, the reason that most of the majority male gaming community cares about E3 is the booth babes. These ladies receive a lot of publicity even before the tradeshow begins and are considered some of the "best in the business" (whatever that means). The "booth babes" have their own web site at e3girls.com, where models are interviewed, offered up for dates, and other such flotsam and jetsam of a large event are spewed. However in order to appreciate the full access the selection of model photos, Internet users must make an account, which is currently a free service. OMG - What was that URL
In fact, the whole thing smells of soft porn and if the models are any less scantily clad, it would be. But, dressed up as video game characters or themed to match the games to which they are drawing attention, these walking ads are just marketing run amok. The press for E3 booth babes goes far beyond their own web site. Booth babe photo galleries are published on many publications and awards such as Best Booth Babe and Hottest Booth Babe are given out by GameSpy.com, GameChronicles.com, and IGN.com.
Well I think this marketing has gone too far. This base victimization of women is not to be taken lightly. I am a firm believer that the more attention that is paid to the booth ladies the less will be paid to the games. We all know Girl Gamers and surely most would not be opposed to a little harmless oggeling (or is that googleing) at the opposite sex (so long as they get equal time and maybe a Mathew McConaughey image or two are included)
But what we really care about is the games, so sit down and shut-up about the booth babes and give us some games that I can care about.
