N.A. Urban Assault Bracket Predictions
We're moving from Weapons Cache to Urban Assault so no more door breaching and prime camping. Instead, teams get to battle it out on one of the newest and most exciting maps that the devs have released in a long time. The question is...can cX make it two in a row? Will IceNine have another shot at the trophy? Will 705th make another run at it? Will what the fux show us that they are serious about coming back? These questions and more will be answered over the next week and a half.
We have a lot of teams looking to dethrone cX and take over as the top dog in these summer series tournaments. And, as shown by these brackets, random seeding sure does make the early rounds a lot more interesting.
So, without any further delay, here is my super-duper, crystal ball-reading, wtf-do-i-know breakdown of the major sections of each bracket and my predictions on who will still be around during the sweet 16 (round 3).
Bracket 1: Section 1
Teams: Hoez & Broz, .ki^, aZ, QRF, Jar Heads, DG, and ec Outcome: This section of the bracket has only a few experienced and quality teams. I predict that aZ and ec will have their summer map series rematch in round 3. Darkhorse: QRF might give aZ a run for their money so both teams should be ready to war!Bracket 1: Section 2
Teams: Hell & Back, GR 705th, IceNine, Insight.aa, Exalted Terror, )v(aD, phobia, and OM Outcome: With four very strong teams, this is one of the tougher sections. I'd wager that 705th and phobia will square off in a really fun round 3 match. Darkhorse: Well, hard to see any darkhorse making it through on this one but anyone of 705th, IceNine and Insight could advance and play phobia (mostly players from mischief/innovation).Bracket 1: Section 3
Teams: Out of Phase, Over Kill, pureDomination, Slow Reaction, and Team-Synergy Outcome: 5 teams, 3 first round-byes, and no team from the top 5 make this one of the weaker bracket sections. Out of Phase will face either Slow Reaction or Team Synergy in round 3 (sR and sg recently tied on Farm in CAL). I'm certainly biased, but I'd be shot if I did not select sR in a match that I expect will be determined in OT. Darkhorse: None that I can see. Neither of the other two teams have much experience playing any of the top teams in TWL.Bracket 1: Section 4
Teams: TnR, vI, Sponsor, MEH, FightClub, and Adverse Effects Outcome: I see an interesting early round battle between vI and TnR and I think that TnR will pull that one out. Sponsor won't be showing up from what I hear so I see it as FightClub and TnR (The New Revelation) warring in round 3. Darkhorse: Adverse Effects has some solid players with some competitive experience so FC should be careful not to underestimate them.Bracket 2: Section 1
Teams: 5thCav, Red Dawn, Imminent Threat, 75thR, 1stSOG, P-G-L, and SI. Outcome: Not a particularly strong section with only 1 top 10 team (RD) and one other top 20 team (iT). In the third round, I predict that it will be Red Dawn facing P-G-L (who beat 1stSOG in OT). Darkhorse: This might not be the first nor the last time that a team underestimates 1stSOG and loses because of it.Bracket 2: Section 2
Teams: Inverse Concept, Team-RTL, krew, FC, and NRA Outcome: Although likely to be considered by many (myself included) the weakest section of the NA tournament, it contains some pretty good up-and-coming teams. I predict that we will have a third round match-up between Inverse Concept and krew. Darkhorse: iC had better come prepared for a good battle against Team-RtL.Bracket 2: Section 3
Teams: The 12 Monkeys, drf, IceTen, Rising Storm, Hyper Intensity, TripleQue, MLO, and csx Outcome: Not a single bye means each team will have to battle their way through this tough section of the draw. I expect that round 3 will be a pair Rising Storm with MLO. Darkhorse: Both csx and hi have a good chance to be in that battle against Rising Storm instead of MLO if the necessary practice and scrimming is ignored.Bracket 2: Section 4
Teams: GOAT, what the fux, slugtrail, clutch.aa, and cX Outcome: All I can say is...WOW. There's a squad whose name is GOAT!?!? Cool! Oh, by the way, this is absolutely without a doubt, 100% grade-a the toughest section in the entire bracket (even with 3 byes). We have: what the fux (mostly IoG members), slugtrail, Clutch.aa, and cX, the winners of the last tournament (oh, and don't forget GOAT!). I'd bet my clutch panties (if I had any, that is) that it will be wtf vs cX in the third round. Darkhorse:Both clutch and slugtrail would have a good shot at making it to the third round in nearly every other section but that just isn't going to happen here. And GOAT is my top choice for darkhorse of the year!
Here is a quick summary of my predictions for the round 3 matches:
Bracket 1aZ vs ec
705th vs phobia
Slow Reaction vs Out of Phase
TnR vs Fightclub
Bracket 2Red Dawn vs P-G-L
Inverse Concept vs krew
Rising Storm vs MLO
what the fux vs cX
I could continue my predictions here but I think it's time for the teams to play them out and see where things stand come round 3. I'd place money on the ultimate tournament winner coming from the second bracket and being rS, wtf, or cX. Good luck everyone and kudos to the any team that is able to knock cX off their tournament throne!
