In other news...
Scientists have found that the Nintendo portable game console, the Gameboy DS, has been found to raise the IQ of it's users and cure cancer. Nintendo responded to the news, as well as the popularity of the release of the Sony PSP by reducing the price of the Gameboy DS to $19.99 as a donation for the good of humanity. Nintendo reports that sales of the double screened portable game console have remained flat.
Dateline- Some people should not be parents:
Sony Online Entertainment just sent notice that some poor baby has been named after a character in EverQuest. Not only does that doom this poor kid to a life as geeky as that of MoonUnit Zappa's, but it immediately tells the world that her parents are 'tards. I guess for little Firiona Vie Ayers (named after the Everquest "Spokes Elf") the path to geekhood is not paved with 8-sided dice and character sheets, but comes straight from the womb as a divine inheritance. /sigh
Solitaire Ban?
You know that guy you work with who spends all day playing games on his PC instead of working? You know who I mean (if you're at work now, point and laugh) he's the guy who plays every random permutation of Solitaire sequentially, and refuses to give up until each one is beaten. Well, if you live in California, his days of Solitaire may be coming to an end. Seems so many people waste away their day playing Solitaire or Minesweeper, that the state is actually considering banning the games from state owned machines. In fact, it is estimated that 50% of the time an IRS employee is on a PC, he/she is in fact playing a game, gambling, or shopping. Good to see those tax dollars well spent! The good, the Bad and the Ugly
This time I am not referring the Classic Clint Eastwood movie but Vivendi Universal and the recent news they have been involved with.
Guys are slow to change.
Most everybody know this but would you have ever thought that the mullet is still worn? I mean in America? I mean in 2004? The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette (Fort Wayne's Home Page, you know) went "hunting for mullets" and they found 'em. Yep, the mullet is alive ans well and according to the article
At the Hair Gallery Mens Shoppe, 9833 Coldwater Road, stylists see 10 men a month. It goes on to say that April Labounty, a stylist at Big League Barbers, says most of the men who come into the shop and have a mullet are in their 30s. Math majors already understand that than means they grew up in the 80s. What is the old saying "All business in the front, All party in the back."
Jobs stink
My job stinks, your job stinks, all jobs stink! But is being a lab tech or a computer programmer really that bad? British channel 14 lists the worst jobs of various British eras.
Let's see, Software Engineer or "groom of the stool"? Yeah, the "primary duty of the groom is to see 'the house of easement be sweet and clear' or, more plainly, to clean the royal rear and privy." Kind of sounds like being a manager.
Well if you think work sux today read on and maybe life is not so bad after all....
Murders linked to D&D?
Well, it was only a matter of time, but it seems that the lawyers are once again trying to flip a tragic death into a cash windfall at the expense of the gaming industry. A man is in custody recently after repeatedly stabbing and killing three people in King of Prussia, PA last week. All three victims received excessive numbers of stab wounds. Now, lawyers are frantically searching for a link between the Dungeons and Dragons series of games and this crime. From the article: "I mean, you have many, many stab wounds and those 'Dungeons and Dragons' fantasy games involve swords and knives and daggers and things of that nature. There may be a connection but I can't say for sure." I don't even need a punchline after that...
DoomRPG coming to a Cell Phone near you? The always deep thinking John Carmack has recently updated his .plan file to fill the rest of the world in on what goes through his mind. Recently, he has been spending his time determining whether J2ME and Cellphones are a viable option for game making. What game is he considering working on? How about a DoomRPG? Now, I am not the biggest fan of cellphones for gaming, but it is indeed interesting to see a major game developer like ID sit up and take notice of this emerging platform. I guess we'll have to see what the future holds. Click here to pray for Cellphone Dance Dance Revolution...
Here we have TC and Polaris once again preparing for an epic head to head battle that only DDR can deliver. Take that World of WarCrap!
